Educate me on throw rugs & the backing.
When I moved from my condo the natural rubber pad under my living room rug left a film on the floor that I had to scrub away. I threw it out.
My bedroom rugs seemed fine. Now my bedroom rugs with a non slip backing are adhering to my bedroom floor. The whole rug rips when I remove it. Otherwise the rugs were fine. I really do not want to have to rebuy rugs every 5 years
So educate me what can I do when I buy a new rug. I’d just buy unbacked rugs but I’m having difficulty finding any.
Sigh

I swear by all wool rungs. I have some that are 30 years old. Plased in high traffic areas and they look as if I bought them recently. Of course I think color can play a part of that though, but they just don't wear out. The smaller throw runds do walk a bit, but if you use a larger one for like in the living room or bedroom area, just siting the funiture siting on them would prevent the walking. No need to mess with rubber backing issues. Draw back, they are expensive.

Have you considered buying a pad for under the rug?

We have a rubber friction mat under the throw mat (it does not have a rubber back) in our bathroom. I rinse it out now and again and hang it up. I wash the throw rug in my washing machine then hang it up. It is advisable not to put rubber backed rugs in the washing machine.

Have you considered buying a pad for under the rug? No because my last rug pad did the same thing at the condo so I threw it out. I had spent extra on “natural rubber” as that was supposed to be safer for the floor. The rugs that are now sticking are latex backed. I want no rubber or latex backing but can’t seem to get that to come up when I search. I’ll try looking at wool

In my experience, all rubber backing on rugs deteriorates over time. It either sticks like glue and when you pull up the rug the chunks are missing and stuck to the floor -or- they start crumbling and you end up with sand like crumbs under the rug.
I'm to the point where I buy inexpensive rugs from Walmart or Ikea and toss them when they start breaking down.

IIRC when we were putting in the LVP at the lake cabin the care instructions specifically said not to use rubber backed rugs on it, especially in sunny areas. We have two rugs in the main room in front of the doors and neither have a non slip backing. I think the bigger one came from a closeout outlet type place and the runner maybe from Costco or a home improvement store like Home Depot? Both were bought within the last 3-4 years.
