Holy heck are they annoying. I’ve lived in the greater St. Louis area since 2007, but we moved 30 miles south 4 years ago. That’s made all the difference, because we are inundated. It’s been unseasonably hot, cooled off today so I’m trying to sit on my front porch and enjoy it.
Feels like I can’t hear myself think it’s so loud. My MIL is 20 minutes north of us, not a cicada around her. Watching all the poor dogs trying to be good when they get near our big tree that is swarming is pretty sad. I let their human know the dogs welcome on our property to investigate I’m ready to never hear this buzzing again and we have weeks to go. Being it the zone that has both the 13 and 15 year cicadas emerging makes me appreciate my well insulated house even more

I haven't seen or heard even one yet (ATL Metro area). I'm a little disappointed because I need the husks and bodies for planned art!
On a bug ID group today I saw I'm not the only ATL area person that hasn't seen any at all yet. Maybe they won't show up here, IDK. There is a lot of woods behind my house so it's not for lack of trees.

I am one of those weird ones. I like the sound of them. Here where I am in AR, there is no sound of them. A couple of husks here and there. I think they are this year's clingers.
I was driving home from Maryland a week ago and as I was going through Nashville, I thought the car was making an odd noise. Or the car next to me. When they drove on, I got worried so I put my window down a bit. Nope, nothing wrong with the car at all. It was cicadas. So many you could hear the noise over the noise of the highway.
I have a fond memory of cicadas. I was not a cuddly child. Never got in my mother's lap for sugar. There was cicada noise one summer night and my grandfather said do you hear those young'un eaters? You better be careful or they will get you. I ran to my mother and got in her lap. Didn't go anywhere for quite some time. Since then, I have always called them young'un eaters. I keep waiting to hear them here.

Thankfully NO! omg, we dealt with the Cicada Armageddon a few years ago. It was horrible. I would have been happy to hide in my house for the weeks they were here, but sadly work had a way of messing up that plan. So I had to go outside. {{shudder}}

My daughter is. It is utterly disgusting! She said she can't even get out to pump gas. They are everywhere and completely freaking her out. I would be too!

We were at Pere Marquette SP earlier in the week (north of STL) and now have moved closer to Springfield, IL and then are even louder!!!!
I just texted my sister that in a perfect world cicadas would eat gnats. OMG they are so bad. Neither bug spary or the thermacell work because, they just want to fly in your eyes. (The gnats not the cicadas, they just crawl up your legs)> You can't sit outside without a fire and up until today it has been too hot.
We have seen some interesting bird behavior. Yesterday we watched red headed wood-peckers scratching and stabbing at the ground. I don't think I've ever seen a wood-pecker on the ground for any length of time.

We've been inundated with them for weeks but are on the back side of it now. It was super loud at its peak - even in the house with music playing the droning noise just couldn't be ignored.
My dog has eaten her weight in them. She'll eat dead ones that we come across in the yard or on our walks... but she strongly prefers to leap and snatch them right out of the air before she crunches them down. Yuck.

I LOVE the sound of cicadas! To me it's a quintessential summer sound, and I love everything about summer. I don't think I'd be too happy if they were flying into me while putting petrol in my car though!!

We don’t have cicadas here, but I was in GA earlier this month visiting my daughter and Brood 13 had just emerged. It was so cool to see and hear them!

We get them later in the summer. I like the sound they make. Our TN family is inundated with them right now

You must live somewhere very close to me as that is about my location also. It was pretty calm here until I noticed them a couple of days ago. They might have been here but I haven’t been outside much. Haven’t seen any but sure can hear them.

I’m in SE Virginia and they are all over. Our dog is so distracted by them and won’t do his business for quite some time when he goes outside. And they’re SO loud. I’m ready for them to be gone.

Not in my area of eastern South Carolina, thank goodness, but when we were living in northwestern Virginia back in 2021 they were so loud you could hear them over the roar of the traffic on I-81. They were every freaking where. I got out of my car to go into Target and it was like they were divebombing me. I screamed and ran in the doors. I don't like bugs that fly, jump, land on me, etc. If another brood emerges here, I'm definitely staying holed up in my house as long as possible!!

I LOVE the sound of cicadas! To me it's a quintessential summer sound, and I love everything about summer. I don't think I'd be too happy if they were flying into me while putting petrol in my car though!! I agree, the cicadas buzzing in the trees is a summer thing. However, this infestation is not your usual summer cicadas. These cicadas are EVERYWHERE. Literally everywhere. You can't walk without really paying attention to where you're stepping. You can't sit in the yard because they'll fly into your hair . You can't walk anywhere without risking one attaching itself to your clothes. Getting in the car is tricky because they'll come on in with you... Then you're driving and suddenly he'll appear crawling up your steering wheel! "Yes officer, I'm sorry I hit that parked car...but there was a cicada crawling on me!" -- And, when you work with elementary school kids you get a class that's evenly divided between those who love cicadas and those who do not. So at recess the "love" group brings a few back to the class, or brings in the shells that are left on the trees, and then the "not love" group runs screaming in the middle of your math lesson. My school's principal actually came on the PA to announce that NO ONE was allowed to bring live cicadas back into school. They were allowed to bring the shells but were NOT allowed to try to attach them to anyone else without that other person's permission. lol Omg, just typing all that out has brought the trauma back.

I think we only have one type here of the annual kind and I detest the loud annoying buzzing sound they make. I Googled to see if we would see the massive influx of them like some are mentioning, and thank GOD the answer is no because my kid would totally freak the hell out. She hates all bugs of all kinds but especially anything that flies and could potentially land on her. I don’t know if I could stand all the endless screaming that would no doubt come with that.

Here's a mostly funny video about what it was like here in the DC area (which clips from other areas) a few years ago. I say "mostly" funny because there was one car accident attributed to the cicadas. Although the driver was fine. They even zoomed in on President Biden, and grounded one of his planes. Life with cicadas

St. Charles County here (just north of St. Louis) and this week has been a rough one! I actually got a headache Monday after listening to them all day! I'm thankful we never planned a graduation party in the backyard when these 13 year group popped out!

Also, I've read they can be fatal if your dogs eat too many, so be careful. Someone I know owns a carpet cleaning business and apparently business is booming because so many dogs are eating the cicadas then gong inside and barfing on the carpet.

We are in the SW Chicago suburbs, and all my friends with older/more wooded property have tons of them. We are in a newer subdivision and back up to a cornfield, and we have not seen one single cicada!

Crazy! I am in the metro Detroit area and I have nothing.
