I used to read The Great Gatsby every time we vacationed at the beach. I don't know why, other than the fact that I once read it on vacation and it stuck with me...vacation=Gatsby. Another one I've enjoyed on several vacations is Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I often read Little Women at Christmastime.
It's dependable - like that thing you order in a diner when you don't want to be disappointed by trying something in unknown territory.
I realize this is a little weird but wondered if anyone else does this.

On vacation I try to read something new and beach-y. I definitely have old favorites that I turn to often in regular life though.

I don't typically reread books. When we go on vaca, my goal is to see if I can read more books than I did last time . Last year was 4.5 (I had already started one). I like to mix it up - thrillers, beachy, rom com. I just bought 2 Mary Kay Andrews books - Savannah Blues and Savannah Breeze. I am saving those for the end of June when we go see DD in Naples, FL for her bday.

I wouldn't want to read the same book every time I went on a vacation..... unless there were about ten years between vacations! Even then, I probably wouldn't re-read the same book. I do get what you're saying though. It does feel comfortable and dependable. For me, I figure I only have a limited number of reading years left in my life. I don't want to "waste" my time re-reading a book when there are so many other books out there just waiting to be read! (Ask me then, why I keep watching repeats of my favourite TV shows, when there are so many other shows waiting to be watched - I'm nothing if not inconsistent! ) I do prefer to read page-turners when I am on vacation. I guess to me, that means "chick lit", although I don't really like that term. Something by Marian Keyes, for example, is perfect vacation reading.

No - totally the opposite. I want to read something fun, fast paced and summery. But I’m a huge reader and all the books you mentioned bored me to tears so clearly we are different haha (even The Great Gatsby - I thought I liked it but I started it again and couldn’t finish it)

That is so interesting. I have never heard of anyone doing that before, with the exception of my DD, who still reads 'Twas the Night before Christmas to her girls every Christmas Eve. The girls are all adults now, but still love it, even though they have sometimes had to do it via video chat.
I have reread a few of my absolute favourites, but not more than once. I try to choose my books carefully, read reviews and look forward to being pleasantly surprised by a new wonderful and well written story.

I read A Christmas Carol every Christmas but other than that I'm not really a seasonal reader or a re-reader.

On vacation I try to read something new and beach-y. I definitely have old favorites that I turn to often in regular life though. While I do agree that any book you read at the beach is a beach book, I do lean more towards a beachy read. I have almost never re read a book. When I have I didn't enoy it as much, even though I didn't remember all the details. Funny because I love rewatching sitcoms, I have a few on constant rotation. I still find it enjoyable even thougg I could almost recite them by heart.

I never re-read books but if I am sitting by the pool or at the beach, I do like to read light beachy books like those by Elin Hilderbrand because they are easy to pick up and put down if you’re chatting with others or getting up to swim etc..
