Hi everyone! I hope you are enjoying your long weekend ... I'm in Canada so no long weekend for us! I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon to have him look at my stupid foot and ankle and renew prescriptions ... then I'll drop into the grocery store for a few things ... come home and do a bit of laundry ... fun times! My mum is coming over later in the afternoon ... I need to do a few things for her on the computer - she will never own one. We are going to the neighbourhood pub for dinner ... I will probably have veggie pizza! This is what I posted on Facebook today ... some teacher humour for you! What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a great Saturday everybody!

No long weekend here either, but next Thursday is a holiday so we are taking the Friday as well and going away for a 4 day break.
Our dinner out last night was fabulous. We started with bread, olives, goat’s cheese and a cream cheese and dates dip. Everything was tasty and just a bit spicy (chilli powder/flakes). The olives had bits of preserved lemon mixed in, which gave a salty punch when you hit a piece. For mains, we had a dish of braised prawns and baby octopus in a tomato sauce and the most delicious chicken. It was called Chicken Barbere and had the most amazing aroma - I just wanted to keep sniffing it, but I ate it as well and it tasted as good as it smelled. Even better, there were two drumsticks that we didn’t eat, so they came home with me for dinner tomorrow when DH isn’t here.
Today we went into the city to the Apple Store, as DH was getting me a new iPad for my present. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any of the model I wanted in stock, so I have to wait until Wednesday to pick it up. At least it will be ready for me to take on vacation.
Dinner tonight is beef stew with pasta. DH is cooking - he started it really slow before we went out earlier- and it’s nearly time to eat.

Before I forget I want to post the link to the chicken mozzarella pasta recipe. I use my own tomato sauce rather than a jarred sauce.

Good morning.
Ds and his gf arrived last night and we had a really nice visit. Today he's going to show her around our small city and then they are going to a wedding tonight. Dh will be working on the flooring in the living room. He was delayed, because a tool he ordered didn't arrive. He finally went to Lowes and picked up another brand. He had great fun using it. I'll be working on my puzzle. Life will be more fun once the flooring is laid. Furniture arrives on 6/4 and they can't hold it past that date. They've been holding it for 2 weeks already. Since dh is on a deadline we had to put other stuff to the side. I'm climbing the walls w/boredom. I don't like being stuck at home.
Dinner will be rechauffe for dh, since yds and gf won't be home.
Enjoy today, everyone.

well I did all my errands yesterday and only had an hour ferry wait (very good for a friday afternoon on a holiday weekend).
today, dh and I are off to the dump first thing, then a friend is coming over for lunch.. we are having the ling cod dh bought and a salad and strawberries.
dinner will probably be lunchy stuff.. though there is some leftover salmon. I am going to tackle the kitchen and make a list of stuff staying here that needs to get packed for final cleanout.
I am also going to start packing my car if the rain stops.. it will be a tetris problem.. to cram everything in. leaving for my long drive on tuesday.

My friends! I had an absolutely exhausting week. I had 19 meetings! I don't think I have ever had 19 meetings in one week in all my life. It sucked every bit of energy I had out of me. And then if you read my work thread there was extra mental stress so yeah by last night, I was freaking done. Even today I'd like to just lay flat on the couch and stare at the ceiling. Sigh. But Jeremy's kids invited themselves over. They did request chicken fried rice and I made all the rice which is currently chilling. But Jeremy will do the rest. I have been making this cake: www.lovebakesgoodcakes.com/death-by-chocolate-poke-cake/My sister mentioned poke cakes at dinner the other night and my stressed out self went right down the rabbit hole last night looking at recipes. I decided this one has the very most chocolate I could pack into a cake. Oh and did I mention I got my monthly this week too? So the chocolate is a craving, as well as a reward for successfully navigating this week. And yes, yes, I know it's not healthy to use food as rewards. 😂 This is why I'm chubby. 😂🤣😂🤣 So scrapmaven you are onto the floor then? Wonderful! Hope it's all done soon and that it hasn't made you too nuts. sueg that dinner sounds exquisite. Again, I'd be using it to reward myself if I lived by you. Part of the treat is that you'd be in the restaurant with me too. 😘 I'm going to crochet before those kids get here. The good news is that they won't stay late and I told my neighbor Jenn I'd bring down a bottle of wine and we could have a glass later. I'll probably take her a slice of cake because she needs a reward this week too. 😉

jeremysgirl, that cake looks delicious. Enjoy your evening w/your neighbor. Can you crochet while the kids are there? It's your weekend and you've had a stressful week. I hope that you will plan something fun for yourself to do tmw. sueg, your getaway will be delightful. I'm so happy for you. ntsf, nothing says "can ya have more fun" like a dump run. We've done a few of those, lately. Currently, we're waiting for a bulky item pickup on Monday from our garbage service. Isn't that exciting? leannec, would your mom use a tablet? Maybe that would be easier than a computer. Am I talking foolishness? Enjoy your weekend.

I went out shopping at Joann this morning and found too many bargain! Unfortunately shopping is something I do more often when I’m depressed, which I have been dealing with lately. Today is day 3 of a 5 day weekend for me. I’m hoping to find the energy to clean up my scrapbooking table and visit with friends on Zoom.
We’re having ribs, corn on the cob and fresh green beans for dinner. DS will handle most of the cooking.

I'm sorry to hear that you're fighting w/depression, KelleeM. I hope that it resolves very quickly. Meanwhile, I hope that you can find something fun to do this break. Perhaps that Zoom call is going to be very helpful. ((((HUGS))).

Aww... KelleeM I'm sorry depression has a hold on you. That's just awful. I hate when it won't shake off after a couple of days. I'm so ground down today I feel it needling at the back of my mind. Like it's warning me that if I don't slow down, damn it, it will rise up and slow me down just to show me that my unconscious brain is really the boss of me. 😂 And of course I'm giving it the middle finger and going full steam ahead anyway so I expect by Monday I'll be laid out. Because as much as I like to think I am, I am not really in control. Hopefully you'll rest some this weekend and then be able to shake it off. Big hugs. Yes I can crochet while they are here. And I will. However Jeremy also invited his mom. And she will want to talk to me. If it were just them, I could sneak away and nobody would care.

sueg that dinner sounds exquisite. Again, I'd be using it to reward myself if I lived by you. Part of the treat is that you'd be in the restaurant with me too. 😘 If you lived near me, or if you came to visit, I would definitely eat at Spice Bazaar with you. I just hope you have a good tolerance for heat! I am deliberately avoiding looking at the chocolate cake recipe you posted - I don’t need that temptation!

We had a thunderstorm this morning so Walker sat on top of me on the couch for an hour until the thunder ended. He refused to go outside to pee until the rain stopped so I’ve learned that he has fantastic bladder control.
No plans for the weekend so we are just hanging around the house.
Not sure about supper tonight yet.

Dinner tonight will probably be something at the airport.
I have a 3ish hour layover in Salt Lake City, and then onto home. Well. Sort of. Flying into an airport about 40 miles from home because I just wanted to get home after a week of people-ing more than I do all year. But I am looking forward to a shower that's not icy cold and the water runs for 15 seconds at a time and has subpar water pressure.
I did upgrade my seat from row 31 to 12 because I wanna be comfy for my four hour flight!

leannec, would your mom use a tablet? Maybe that would be easier than a computer. Am I talking foolishness? Enjoy your weekend. Nooooo! She has an iPhone that she knows how to play Solitaire on and make phone calls and text a small number of contacts ... that's as far as it goes! She is unwilling to learn to do anything else!

Last night I took the gentleman friend out for dinner to celebrate his birthday. We went to a wonderful small-plates restaurant and shared everything, including a cheese/appetizer plate, an utterly fantastic beet/arugula/pomegranate salad (we both love beets), Chinese pork ribs served with fried rice, and garlic noodles. Apple tart for dessert. Tonight at dinner time, I will be making an airport run to pick up my son and my BIL who are returning from a Caribbean cruise. So who knows when and what I will eat. Maybe just snacky stuff when I get home. There’s also part of a beautiful chocolate cake left from his actual birthday, so maybe just that for dinner. leannec, the meme is hilarious, but that “kid printing” is a font. So maybe it’s all just made up? sueg, a belated happy birthday to you. Your dinner sounds amazing. ntsf, you really have your hands full. Wishing you some peace when this is over. jeremysgirl, arggh, what a week you've had. I hope the rest of weekend improves. KelleeM, I’m sorry you're struggling with depression. Hugs to you, my friend.

I had my family over today for breakfast and had a great time chatting. They just left about an hour ago and am ready to just rest and enjoy the rest of my day.
For dinner we are having we had left from last night's dinner. Hubby picked an italian restaurant last night for his birthday and it was delicious but it was too much food.

leannec: I can relate. My mom has a Samsung phone that she uses to text and call people. That’s it - no internet, no games, nothing else. And I gotta say I’m kind of happy about that. I spend a lot of time explaining and fixing phone issues so I can’t imagine what it would be like if she had a computer and the internet!

sueg that meals sounds wonderful scrapmaven that recipes looks great! Is the flooring hard to lay yourself? I always see some at Costco for sale. jeremysgirl nice to have you back on the board! I caught up on your work thread yesterday and continue to shake my head at your manager. KelleeM sending you hugs. I'm sorry you are dealing with depression. taylortroop good for Walker holding it until it's done. Our dog often goes over 12 hours even with an hour walk and talking him out back running him around. lucyg that sounds like a delicious salad. I love beets with arugula. leannec my step-mom has been reduced to a jitterbug and her caregiver is convinced it has a virus. Her phones always seem to have problems. I call her home the bermuda triangle for phones. I spent some time deadheading flowers and picking some lovely roses. My eyes are twitching. Here is the lettuce for our first harvest. Tonight will be chicken, roasted rosemary potatoes and squash. First pick of the season! KelleeM I'm sorry that you're dealing with depression at the moment. (((Hugs))) to you - seems inadequate, I'm sorry. jeremysgirl I wish you'd posted that cake yesterday! I had to make a birthday cake for my MIL last night. She doesn't eat cake, so it's really just a token cake so we have something to stick a candle into. But still. Your cake looks beyond delicious! sueg your meal sounds amazing! I had to google berbere chicken to see that it's an Ethiopian dish. And then further google to find out what makes the berbere spice mix. Guess what I will be making very soon!! For dinner we went to my dad and stepmom's house for her birthday. They cooked roast lamb and roast beef, and a ton of roast veggies. Today I am making slow cooked roast lamb with a ton of roast veggies for my MIL's birthday lunch. The only problem with doing a slow cooked lamb for lunch, instead of dinner, is that someone has to get up stupid early to turn it on. I prepared it the night before, and DSO, bless him, said he'd get up at 5am to put it in the oven. Well, my son got home at 4:30am with a few mates, which woke DSO up, so he got up then to put it on.

DS & I went out and spent $$$ on flowers, herbs and garden supplies at a local nursery. It was HOT but we got a lot of nice things and I can't wait to get them into their containers (only container gardening for us right now). We'll plant on Monday (early before it gets hot).
DS went out to meet up with friends for dinner, and I'm heading out for a pedicure and will pick something up for DH and I after that. Possibly Chinese. We don't have enough leftovers for a full meal for both of us and I am too beat (and hot) to cook something new.
Hugs to all that need them!

(((Hugs))) 19 meetings is WAY too many. Hi everyone else! Dinner tonight was bratwurst, a big salad, and fruit. I cut up the pineapple we got in our farm box and DD17 had asked if we could get a dragon fruit to try so we had that also - it was good! I think we've decided on a Texas sheet cake for Monday's dessert. The last thing any of us needs is chocolate cake but...

the deer around here are small.. so the fawn stood about 2 ft tall.. so cute. we are in the middle of the woods.. eagle nests just off the deck area, sea birds, quail, --it is so quiet and peaceful
the house has two round windows (about 6 ft diameter) at either end of living space.. so you can gaze out to the woods.. or look out the 50 ft of windows that face the water and mountains when there are no clouds.
may everyone find a little space of peace and quiet wherever they are...

Guess what I will be making very soon!! I did the same the next morning. I then went online to my favourite Spice shop and found they sell a Berbere mix, so I'll pick some up when I'm in the city on Wednesday. If you don't want to make the spice mix yourself, try Gerwurzhaus. They have stores in Chadstone, Carlton (Lygon St) and Block Arcade in the city, as well as an online store. They sell an amazing range of spices, so I bet they'd have it
