I enjoyed reading the recent thread on newly dating. I do like the dating threads, I mentally cheer when all goes well for the posters and I commiserate when things are a bit rough.
We have a blind dating programme here, First Dates, where couples are matched up and have a meal together at the First Dates Restaurant (my niece and her husband ate there for a bit of fun). I think this programme has been running in other countries for a while so . . would you go on it? There are not enough wild horses in the world to drag me through the doors if I was dating again but I'm impressed by those brave enough to do it. Please answer even if you're not in the market for a date!

No way. I despise unreality TV, particularly the dating ones.

Well Im married, but I would totally do something like that if I was dating. It’s one night, correct? Even if it was a bust, it would be an experience. I don’t like the shows where candidates vie for someone’s attention, but this sounds like a one-time matchup.

It's one meal with the option for the couple to continue seeing each other if there's a spark there. But it's televised! That's my no way for doing it. The blind date bit doesn't bother me. I agree, I loathe the attention grabbing shows but I think I've only ever seen trailers for them to know they don't interest me.

You know, even with the cameras, it couldn’t be any worse than some of the dating experiences I’ve had recently. So I’d be well up for it! 😄

I was thinking of the 70s version of the Dating Game. I think that would be interesting if I weren’t married mind you. The dating shows of today are a bit much to say the least.

Hell no. I play many of my cards very close to my vest. That wouldn’t be my style at all.

No way! I don't have the confidence to be on TV. The dating part would be OK but not the rest ...

No. I think first dates are awkward enough without it all being televised.

Absolutely not. I also wouldn’t do any online dating sites, but that’s just me. Totally not my thing. If I ended up single again for any reason, I would stay that way, unless a pairing ended up happening completely naturally. I would not be seeking it out.

As of 1993, Chuck Woolery, the original host of the dating show Love Connection (1983–1994), reported that 29 couples who met on the show had married, 8 were engaged, and had 15 children. A 1994 trade ad promoting the end of the show's run claimed that 31 marriages and 20 babies had resulted from the show.

The Bachelor is fun to watch. The drama is over the top and the couples rarely make it for the long term. The concept just goes over my head. I would be very uncomfortable dating a guy who is dating 25 of my closest friends. I don't want my husband to choose me based upon a swimsuit and boinking contest. If I was given the final rose I would always wonder if that was due to being rejected by the woman he really loved? Plus, getting engaged to a guy whom I've dated alone maybe 3-4 times(counting overnights and final date)is just stupid, imho.
Count me as a huge NOPE!

Never ever in a bazillion years.
One of my best friends went on one of those old school dating shows back in the late 80s or early 90s. She was one of three females who had to answer questions from behind the screen, then the guy picks who he thinks is his “Perfect Match.” She got chosen! But nothing ever came of it, the guy was a bit of a tosser.

As a teen on vacation in LA, I was in the audience during a taping of Love Connection in 1984. We got to use the little devices to vote for our preferred choice. I remember wanting to see the Tonight Show, but Love Connection was the only show filming that day.
