yes - I liked it bc it is close and parking is easy - but I did not like the layout and things are locked up. Walnut Creek is much nicer haha. Are things not locked up in Walnut Creek? WC is not my local Target, but I live in Contra Costa County, and it sure seems like I hear a lot more about shoplifting in WC these days…. 🙁 im not certain, but last time i was there I didn’t notice anything locked up.

I also do pick up (I go inside, though). But none of our merch is locked up.
I have adopted grandkids in another city, and I can send things to their house. I can also order, and they can do pick up there. Saves me on shipping.
I also just got Shipt on a half price promo. It's through Target although the service is good at other retailers too. I love the convenience.

Mine has started locking up things too. Although last time I was there the entire aisle of laundry products that was supposed to be locked up, was unlocked…all the doors just open. Seems to defeat the purpose of installing all those locked cases. :-)

My usual target (in city limits) started locking up the Tide ages ago, but every once in a while you'll go in there and all of the doors in the laundry detergent aisle are open. It's like some sort of retail version of The Purge. (I put Tide on subscribe at Amazon last year though).

I work at Target. I'm one of those people who shop for you. Our store doesn't have anything locked up except things in the electronics dept. I can't imagine how annoying it's going to be if they start locking other things up. Because I have to wait for someone with a key in electronics and sometimes I have to wait 5-10 minutes. We are severely short staffed so adding another responsibility for all of us is silly.
And I agree with try drive-up. There's no minimum for your purchase. You can buy a pack of gum and have it taken out to your car. Your order should be fulfilled in 2 hours. Once you arrive and park, we have 2 minutes to get your items to you. It's really so convenient. You can also order a starbucks and they bring that to your car too!

I can’t tell you the last time I was in Target. Online order all the time. Sometimes I have them run it out to me. Other times mailed to my house.
it’s this unfortunate society we live in that requires everything to be nailed down and locked up.

I am sick of having no cashiers and being expected to use self checkout everywhere, no employees available on the floor, and inaccurate POS systems. I was at Target on Sunday because they had a few good Memorial Day sale items and I had a $50 off coupon that was expiring. When I got to the checkout the cashier had to manually give me the sale price on the items (soda & chips) because they wouldn't ring up correctly. They were items that had huge displays and tons of signs hung all over them. His response was "Oh yeah, the sales never work". But if I hadn't asked why I wasn't getting the sale price I would have just been charged full price. The coupon I had didn't work either. He had to call a manager over who took me to another register and told me "These things never work, we've had tons of them come through and not a single one works." She had a stack of $10 gift cards there and used five of them to pay for my order. She told me that the issues with Target Circle and the sales not working are so bad they just have this stack of gift cards they hand out to customers all the time, there is no limit or anything on how they can use them. That's Target's way of fixing the issues, just use a gift card. Which again, is all based on a customer realizing that something is not correct while they are still in the store. It's completely ridiculous and I'm about done with Target. My Target isn't too bad as far as locking things up, Walmart is terrible. I've always said if they are going to keep the store under lock and key there should be an employee stationed at every aisle waiting to assist people. Pushing a button and waiting 5+ minutes for a response or having to hunt down an employee to be told they don't have the key and have to page another employee causing another 5+ minute wait, is really just unacceptable. And I'm not going to reward them by just ordering, if I have to order it, I'll do so from Amazon. This really surprises me because I almost never have an issue with things not ringing up at the posted sale prices. I would think that is something that happens at the corporate level and not at the store level. However, there are times when something will show a cheaper price on the app “if ordered online” compared to in store, but any time I notice that and say something to the cashier they are able to change the price on the spot. That does kind of drive me nuts.

I just went to a nicer Target a bit further from my house as ours is tiny. I walked through and don’t think I saw anything locked up. Thinking back I don’t think ours does either but our Walmart is like you described snd it’s a royal pain when something you want is locked up as it takes forever to get help and they are highly understaffed. I hate shopping there and try to use pickup whenever possible. I had stopped shopping at our Target because it is small and they rarely have everything I want and end up needing to go to multiple stores but I really enjoyed shopping at this other location it was nice, clean and well stocked. I had trouble finding something and asked an employee and he was very helpful and nice, same with the lady manning the self checkout.
Thinking about it I’m surprised our small Target doesn’t have a lot locked up as I know there are homeless in that center. It really sucks they have to lock so many items up it makes paying customers want to shop elsewhere. Our Walmart just got competition as an Aldi just opened up across the street to. Im kind of curious if it will impact their prices. It really is a dilemma lock things up to prevent theft but also discourage paying customers from buying items. I don’t blame you at all to not want to shop there anymore.

That does kind of drive me nuts. I usually don’t have that problem but I just had a feeling this weekend something wasn’t going to be in their system and sure enough it wasn’t. I took a picture of the price tag. The cashier was trying to say it’s a circle item that you have to click but no it wasn’t it was a regular sale per the sign I had a picture of. I don’t do pickup at Target because they charge for 10 bags wether they use them or not. Last time I asked for them to be removed as I refused the bags and he took off the two bags I refused but not the other eight snd I didn’t realize it until much later. Seriously. In the past they removed them all and I should probably try again but it’s really annoying. Walmart has a checkbox to say you will bring your own bags so much easier.

peamused someone needs to tell the Manteca, CA Target they have 2 min after I park to get my stuff to me. I waited THIRTY minutes the other day. Almost walked in and shopped for myself because it would have been faster.

So, this is slightly off-topic, but maybe not. The other day I was waiting in the self-checkout line at Walmart, and just as I got to the front of the line, after about a 5 minute wait, the sales lady yelled out "15 items or less". I looked around, no signs anywhere. I had around 18-20 items in my cart. Heck, I wasn't going to go wait in some other line, the store was busy. So I still used the self-checkout. The lady didn't even check. But really, put up a sign so we don't waste time waiting in line!

I have 4 Targets nearby and I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I was in one. I stopped going there a long time ago (prior to COVID) because half the time I couldn't find what I wanted. For instance, if I wanted XYZ toothpaste, they carried every brand except that one. If I wanted XYZ makeup, they didn't carry that brand. I got tired of going to multiply places because they didn't have the particular brand or product that I wanted.

Lisa Yes through the app. If you do a drive up order you can add it to your order. peamused someone needs to tell the Manteca, CA Target they have 2 min after I park to get my stuff to me. That store must either be super busy, under staffed or poorly run. Or all of the above. They definitely get in trouble with corporate for that amount of time frame.

I stopped going there well before Covid. I walk in for one thing and walk out $200 later with so much crap that I don't need. The last time I was there, I didn't really notice things locked up but if there was something I needed and it was, I would leave. Life it too short to be standing there waiting on someone to unlock a cabinet so I can get a $5 pair of socks. That's why I don't shop at CVS because they have everything locked up and no one to help. I had a handful of stuff and I needed something that was locked up. I waited and waited and then put everything in my hands down and walked out. Again, life it too short. I just order everything from Amazon or my dh gets it at Costco. I won't go into Costco either. I cannot deal with all the people who just stop in the middle of the aisle with their carts and walk off. I have no problem taking their cart and moving it. I get dirty looks but I say "then you shouldn't leave it in the middle of the aisle". Again, life is too short.

Threads like this make me wonder if Target discovered that they make more profit with a "personal shopper" model. I would think that, in general, the impulse buys would bring more profit than the theft of deodorant and shampoo decrease the profit, but in theory, someone has done that analysis. The big problem from the consumer point of view is that they want to put in all of these safeguards, but they don't want to add staff to manage them.
I don't know why, but I rarely go to Target now after being a loyal customer for years. The last time I went, stuff wasn't locked up here, but I do a lot more running in Walgreens or Dollar General to grab things rather than deal with the big stores.

I just did a Target delivery for TP, paper towels and ziplock bags. I should have just done a pickup at my grocery store but the prices were good, I just had to wait a few days.
I haven't been in a Target in months and I used to go all the time. I think since Covid, my shopping patterns are really different and I just don't do much in person shopping now that there are more pickup and delivery options.

I am sick of having no cashiers and being expected to use self checkout everywhere, no employees available on the floor, and inaccurate POS systems. I don't have a Target near me, but I'm annoyed that they are making self-checkout harder at Walmart. My husband typically does the shopping, but the last time I was there, it was a limit of 15 items at every register. Once you've done it a few times, it doesn't take long.

My local grocery store chain recently made a rule that you can only go through self check out with 10 items or less. And they have someone count if they think you have too many. When I read about it starting, I thought "Oh, then I guess they will have to have more regular check out lanes open." Nope. They don't. I recently went on a Friday afternoon, and there were two check out lanes open with about 15 people in line. It ticks me off. If I can no longer go to self check out because I have 12 items instead of 10, then the stores should have more regular lanes open.

That is my pet peeve. We almost always do self-check out because of the lack of employees and it's just quicker.

Self checkout. In addition to the item limits my Walmart has hardly any self checkout open. The last time I went to Target the same thing only half were open so 4 but a line. Walmart has more but I have been there when they only have 1 or 2 open snd a long line. Neither seem to have enough cashiers either.
