I had planned to start a fluff thread about what kind of reels you're being fed on social media. And then I heard an interesting conversation on the radio about how algorithms are feeding different people not only different posts / ads / reels, but also different comments. Apparently there were a series of videos on Tik Tok by a woman who was waiting for her boyfriend to arrive, and he was late. She continued to post updates saying how late he was. The woman telling the story about these videos said that most of the comments she saw were from women saying "How rude!" and "That's so disrespectful!" and "That's a red flag!" and even "I'd dump him if I were you!" But the comments that her husband was seeing on the same video were mainly from men saying things like "Well maybe he got held up" and "Stop being such a @#$%" and "Why are you being so controlling" etc etc. My DSO isn't on any social media, so I can't do an experiment to compare what kind of comments we would each get. I would be very interested to see if anyone else was being fed different comments than their opposite gender partner. And as for reels...... my algorithm has decided that I like seeing reels about cake decorating; anything that has rainbow colours such as cake icing, candy making, painting, candle making; people dressed as bushes jumping out at passersby; people base jumping; babies reacting to things or pulling faces; ...... and worst of all - gender reveals! I really dislike the whole concept of gender reveals, but for some stupid reason, I keep clicking on them, so I keep getting fed more and more of the stupid things!  |

About the comments ... some times I notice that some comments are "hidden", and especially on FB, I'll only be shown the "top" comments. At the bottom of what I see, there is a link to click if I want to see all the comments. I don't know if all the same comments are hidden for everyone or if it is some algorithm at work. SO and I are not on TikTok, so we can't check if the theory is true or not.
The weird reels/posts that I've been getting on IG lately are memorials. I go to my search page, and it is filled with posts about people who have passed away. I don't know why I've been getting that. I don't open any of them. And for some reason, on FB, I've hit the Brady Bunch jackpot. Every other post is about the Brady Bunch! I really don't understand that one!

That was my thought about "most relevant", that it might relate to gender. Although who knows with FB. It annoys me because I always think "who are they to decide what's relevant to me?" hahaha On FB I see Reels about dogs, horses, cats, babies swimming, and sometimes kids doing things like singing or dancing.  |

I don't have TT and I don't view FB reels. My IG reels are mostly cats, nurse humor (which can be rather dark, lol), the few celebrities I follow, and art/miniatures. I really don't enjoy watching random stupid videos that are constantly shared by people with Tiktok.
For some reason my business IG thinks I want to see wedding videos. I do not. I hate them and can't seem to eliminate them.

I had the soup phase, the mushroom hunting phase, then the old-house phase (kind of liked that one), the Nirvana phase, the Little House on the Prairie phase (TV show not the books), and yes, the Brady Bunch phase... to name a few. I think someone on my friends list is into those and so Facebook decided I must be too. |

My TT algorithm is fairly different than my Reels.
Reels = a lot of wedding/prom (last month) dresses, hockey/hockey goalie/ice skating, gymnastics, teacher humor/end of school year, travel and wild animals interacting with humans.

That reminds me, every group of reels I've been fed on Facebook for the last two weeks has included a Friends clip. I'm quite enjoying them. And I'm jealous of your Brady Bunch phase. I might have to yell "Brady Bunch!" or "Marsha Marsha Marsha!" into my phone so it starts feeding me Brady Bunch clips. |

I’m so annoyed when I go to read the comments, it says there are over 1,000, but after the first 10, they just repeat! What’s that all about? I genuinely want to know what people think. Not just 10 people.
I’m getting Friends reels, too. I like them fine. Big Bang Theory, I think that’s because I was watching Young Sheldon. Also I get comedy, which I like, and watercolor tutorials.
But the influencer crap with weird makeup or so called better ways to “style” clothes are a big miss, ugh. And I don’t have TicToc.
I’m deeply, deeply suspicious of the way the algorithms are further polarizing everybody.
