Do I tip the guy who runs the trivia game at the pub on trivia night? If so, how much is standard?
Thanks

It wouldn't even occur to me to tip.

It wouldn't even occur to me to tip. It didn't occur to me until we were on the way home, so we didn't. And I'm wondering if we should have.

But, I still don’t know if I would have tipped. I didn't even look to see a tip jar. And we were among the first to leave as we have to be up early in the morning.
It's too late for tonight's but we intend going back because we had a really great time.
Since nobody is telling me I messed up by not tipping, I'm going to go with "it's not something that's done".

I've never tipped in this instance. It wouldn't even occur to me to do so.

I have never attended a trivia event, so I have no reference for experience. Are there prizes given out? If there were prizes, particularly a cash prize, and if I won one of them, I would probably give the person running things a percentage of my cash prize. Well, as long as it wouldn’t be misinterpreted as me having cheated in some manner with their assistance. If there was someone else checking answers, I would do it.

I was thinking you did tip them, so I was curious if that was not the norm, so I Goggled.
Absolutely! Our trivia hosts love to be rewarded for their awesomeness and hard work. $1-$2 per team member is plenty adequate to show your appreciation.

I would consider that an expense for the restaurant/ bar to cover. They have these nights to bring in business

No. I am a rabid hater of the constant recommendation of tipping in our society. He is there as an entertainer for the evening and is likely being paid to do this job or he/she has volunteered. If we are to tip entertainers should we start tipping musicians at a concert? Or comedians in a comedy club? DJ at the club?

No. Tipping has gotten out of control. Why won't someone tip me for doing my job (engineering)? I have gone to trivia nights and our group won. No we didn't tip and it wasn't expected.
People who run those often do it for the fun of it. If that is the case, why don't they tip me for participating.

I'm generally an over tipper - both in who and in amount - and it would never cross my mind to tip them.

No, It would never occur to me to tip. Now that I’m aware of the opportunity to tip I wouldn’t. Like others I am tired of the tip for everything culture. He is employed by the restaurant to get me to come in and spend money. They are his employers.

It's just one guy doing it. It's in a pub and they have weekly trivia night.
We don't (never have) go to these things, so I had no clue. I did not tip them.

According to the replies here, I think its not the norm. Maybe a regional thing or maybe the type of venue etc that all play into it.
But I do agree the tip thing has gone overboard.

I'm waiting for someone to tip me for doing their laundry. I think that's all I've done for the better part of 2 days now.
