Can we discuss this Seinfeld shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna154708Return to dominant males & the “agreed upon hierarchy” Who agreed? The women who couldn’t financially leave because they couldn’t have bank accounts? Because they couldn’t file for divorce? Because they could be denied an apartment as a single woman? Just exactly who agreed? I didn’t? The whole point of a civilized society is to evolve & grow and to improve. Not stagnate and be oppressive. Stagnation & oppression is not civilized. What a tool.

The men agreed, of course! Who else mattered?

And left more then a few of us alone to figure out a way to feed and house our kids, because the macho man vanished and filed for divorce thousands of miles away.

Weak men miss a time when they had power based solely on their gender.

I read the first line of the article and closed it. This is the same creep who was 39 when he was dating a 17 year old, right. He can fuck all the way off.

I remember in the early 70s my mom didn't even have her name on a credit card. She was Mrs Dad's first name, Dad's last name. Who wants to return to that?!

He's allowed to feel that way and I'm allowed to be repulsed by it. My mom got fired when she got pregnant. She was married. My stepmom was not allowed to play full court basketball in school because it wasn't good for her uterus.
TImes change. You either change with it or get left behind.

I find it so odd that a Jewish man would want to return to an "agreed upon hierarchy." Historically, those hierarchies weren't kind to Jewish people any more than they were to women.

It did not work well for all members of society back then, why would it work if implemented again today? Are these macho:men that have all the power going to chip in to support all the single mothers whose husbands won’t pay child support when they will not be able to feed their children? And I am very happy with my female doctor, thank you. I cannot imagine her being forced to stay at home baking brownies instead of using her intellect and compassion to treat patients. I just prefer female professionals in multiple areas.

Men of quality don't fear equality.
Not my phrase, but it fits.
I'll hard pass on the bad old days, thank you very much.

I guess since Jewish men were often subjugated by those historical hierarchies, they used the defense mechanism displacement to take it out on the women.

Ah, those halcyon days when white men held all the cards. If women worked at all, they were teachers or nurses but needed permission to open a bank account. They weren't newscasters; they were "weather babes." People of color had their own bathrooms and Jews weren't allowed to join country clubs. Brings a tear to the eye.

This really upsets me, as I am (was) a big fan of his. DSO and I still watch Seinfeld all the time.
I am all for boys having strong male role models, but not in the "real man" way that he is describing.
And I am still scratching my head at his comment about there being no decent comedy any more because everyone is so PC: "This is the result of the extreme left and PC crap and people worrying so much about offending other people.” Um, did I literally not just watch the finale of 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' which was most definitely not PC, and Seinfeld even appeared in the last episode!!

Amazing how few remember that, as he became an American Treasure. I remember it because I remember being incredibly icked out about it and having people treat it like it was funny. I ended up buying a bunch of dresses from her line when she started designing -- I really liked how they fit, and she is/was very talented. I hated that she was treated like something of a joke.

I have bought (and sold) cookbooks from the 70s and 80s. The 70s for sure had that same name set up. Think it was in the 80s ones too but had started to transition. (Don't quote me on exact timeline).

I remember it, but, that kind of thing was “normalized” in my life so I didn’t really think a lot about it. My sisters first husband was 15 years older than her ( the sucky part of that is being left a young widow ) My high school track coach dated a girl 1 grade ahead of me the minute she graduated ( they were VERY “friendly” before hand ) And several other instances where that kind of thing was presented in my life as “normal” It wasn’t really until I was 30 & pregnant that the icky factor of something like that hit me. And of course I questioned my whole life or actually really questioned society as it has been presented to me.
