Anita: Welcome to our table! @ The Birdhouse Lady: Congrats! Nothing better than grandbabies! Today was a wonderful day knowing that DS and DDIL arrived home safely and I kept the kids alive for the week! I went into the city by myself this morning and did some shopping. I used gift cards so I didn’t spend a cent of my own money on myself. I got 6 new books (3 for $10 sale at the bookstore) and a pair of jeans and sweatshirt. I was looking for new running shoes but didn’t find anything I liked and were comfortable. Tomorrow is DH’s 64th birthday. When teasing him about getting older, he replied that he only had one more year until he could get Old Age Pension (we get it at age 65 here in Canada). Supper tonight was grilled pork chops, grilled sweet potatoes and corn.

scrapmaven I look forward to hearing about your first singing lesson. 🎤 🎶 cadoodlebug , I LOVE that photo! It's perfect for you. Anita welcome to the table. I hope you stick around, it's lovely here. I hope you're able to find a fabulous new job soon. The Birdhouse Lady woohoo!!! How exciting! I can't believe how quickly The Day has arrived. I hope you'll be able to share photos, but if not, you need to describe every cuddly squishy little inch of the baby. We had dinner at MIL's. She went way overboard as usual, and cooked an Indian banquet. Actually, some of the food was from the Indian banquet that my BIL had cooked on Sunday, then he took the rechauffe to MIL's for us to have. Let me see if I can remember everything: samosas, onion bhaji, spinach pakora, various dipping sauces, paratha, chicken curry, beef rendang, tandoori lamb cutlets, vegetables, saffron rice, banana and coconut sambal. I took several containers home, and even dropped off two containers of rechauffe to my friend from work, who lives not far from MIL. Anita FYI, we have a lovely little French word that we have commandeered: réchauffé. It means a dish of warmed-up food left over from a previous meal. We use it as both a noun and a verb here on the dinner thread.

The Birdhouse Lady, you have a tribe filled w/some of the best babysitters. I'll be checking in on the thread to see how mama and baby are doing. This is very exciting and you are going to be an amazing grandma. First voice lesson was great fun. It brought back a lot of feelings from that time in my life when I was on stage a lot. The teacher was a young voice major and will be teaching music at the high school level. She has a beautiful voice. I was complimented when she told me that it was obvious that I had been professionally trained in the past. She liked my vibrado. She chose my first piece, a Puccini aria and off we go. I won't be performing professionally ever again, but I would love to sing w/my nephew while he plays the violin. That needs to be a goal. Ok, The Birdhouse Lady, we're all waiting for baby news.

I'm going to duck my head for a couple of things here tonight: Even though my "friend" is from India and has tried to get me to like Indian food ... I just don't! I am super sensitive to spice these days so that probably has a lot to do with it ... it looks yummy but I just can't enjoy it I am so freaking excited for you The Birdhouse Lady ! I can't wait for photos! But I will admit that I am just not ready to be a Grandma! Not even a little bit! I love hearing all of your stories but I am not jealous ... I had my dd's late (in my 30's) so I didn't want to be a mum early either ... the girls know that I am not encouraging it at this time! I'll live vicariously through those of you who are Grandparents for now! Yay for singing scrapmaven ! I'm a terrible singer ... I don't even sing the national anthem out loud! Welcome Anita ! I know you will find a better job soon! I recently retired from teaching and now I sub so it feels like I haven't retired! I worked today and it was, thankfully, uneventful ... nothing lined up for tomorrow yet ... I just found out that my neighbours with the REALLY loud two year old are now remodelling their condo ... so more noise during the day ... yay. This could mean they are either planning to stay indefinitely (ugh!) or they are fixing it up to sell (woo hoo!) ... we'll see what happens ... Dinner tonight was a turkey and brie croissant ... so yummy!

Gosh leannec , between the Indian food and the avocado, I honestly don't know how we're still friends! Just as well you like garlic! 😘 I'm not sure if I'm ready or not for grandkids. I feel like I have just got "my" life back now that both kids are adults and working, and DSO and I are really enjoying being able to do what we want when we want. I know that having grandkids won't really change that, but still... I just feel like I need a couple more years of selfish me time. DSO is most definitely ready for grandkids. I was 30 and 37 when I had my kids, who will be 27 and 20 this year. My dad will be 82yo next month, and I would LOVE for him to be able to meet his great-grandchildren one day. His youngest grandkids (not by blood, they're my stepmom's grandkids, but they call him Poppy) are 1yo and 4yo. They run him ragged!

Well, we had bratwurst with caramelized onions last night, and tonight DS made Indian butter chicken with Basmati rice. He used a spice mix packet, and cut the spice level down so DH & I could both eat it. DH doesn't do hot spicy stuff at all, and I only do medium/mild spice. It was soooo good! Indian butter chicken is one of only about 2 Indian dishes I like. Anita - welcome! Sorry about your job situation - but who knows, it may turn out to be the pathway to something you enjoy more and is less stressful. Good luck with your search! cadoodlebug - I love those pictures! Just beautiful! The Birdhouse Lady - congratulations to your son & DIL & you!!

SO MANY CONGRATS to The Birdhouse Lady and family!! He is just adorable. I love that look on newborns’ little faces. Like, “what fresh hell is this?!” Welcome Anita and I hope your job situation resolves quickly and easily. I hope your sister is okay, Tearisci. Glad you’re starting voice lessons, scrapmaven, and love the continuing photos and travelogue, cadoodlebug. Dinner tonight was beet salad again (with a lot of other stuff on it, not just beets) but there are three new tubs of pickled beets in my fridge. It may be a long summer. Out of lettuce now, so no more salad until I get to the grocery store. Tomorrow I plan to make chicken soup for sure. Yes, I chose the hottest day of the year for soup. I’m smart like that. If not, the chicken stock is getting frozen and I’m sure dinner will be pizza or something else that doesn’t involve me cooking.

Congratulations to all of you The Birdhouse Lady !! He is just adorable! And such a big boy!! I had to convert inches to cm to work out how long he was, and he is a good 6cm longer than either of my kids (that's about 2.5 inches).

So today I was in for four hours, and the playground was so wet there was no way we could play outdoors. wet playgrounds make for antsy kids Yes, very antsy kids, but we had puddles over 20cm deep in places, so really not safe, as well as having at least 2 kids in their 'emergency back up clothes' before they even made it to afterschool care. We got through with a lot of indoor games - we have things like Twister, as well as card games - as well circle time where we talked about the school vacation we just had.
