The news just said that IG is going to start testing ads that you can’t opt out of, sort of like how YouTube has ads. If it is very annoying, that might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back with regard to my IG usage. With YouTube, it is annoying, but I am watching a 10-20 minute video so it is not too bad. But on IG, I am just scrolling. If my scrolling is interrupted for 1-2 minutes at a time, that is annoying! Maybe it is what I need to give up social media. I get IG ads all the time. Chinese dress stores, Fake Louis Vuitton, cell phone cases, shoes, etc. They don’t bother me unless they are something else?

Oh wow really? Then I won’t use the app. The Peas who know me know I don’t post on anything on IG and those stupid ads make me buy that junk. I have 4 dresses, paint by number, cell phone case and something else. (Diamond painting). BFF just got a teach yourself embroidery and I love it! I am their target.

I would like to opt out of the AI on IG. That’s flippin annoying. Many artist are opening accounts on Cara. They supposedly do not farm user content for AI usages. I don’t know if Cara will take off, but with this new IG ad thing, maybe it will speed up the acceptance of Cara. |

I hate ads anywhere. I didn't realize you could pay FB to have no ads. I wouldn't spend my money on it, I'm not on it enough, but that's probably where they're going on IG. When ads are heavy on FB, I feel like it's on weekends, I stay off FB. If IG rolls out these ads, I'll close the app and go back in. I'm not sitting thru ads. If that doesn't work, then I'll stop using IG. I'm on TT most of the time anyway.

It will be interesting to see if this affects using Instagram on Windows. I use it more on my computer than with the app on devices. Over the years, a lot of things have operated differently on Windows - some for the good and some not so good.

I've just started seeing 5-second forced ads here on the 2Peas Tapatalk app. It's a still image, taking the whole screen. Counts down from 5 to an "X" then you can exit. Yuck.

Over the years, a lot of things have operated differently on Windows - some for the good and some not so good. I mostly use Instagram on my Mac and have found the same thing as you have with Windows. Since I am already cutting back on social media use/screen time, forced ads will just mean I check Instagram even less. The amount of time I spend on YouTube has been cut drastically because of their forced ads. I briefly considered paying for the ad-free YouTube but $13.99/month is ridiculous! |

I saw something on the news last night, they are going to be changing how teens can view Instagram. Something about their feed will show up in chronological order? I can't find a news story and just caught the end of the segment. If this is true, I'm changing my age to 13! I don't follow anything with mature content.  |

Now I'm stuck with ads and spend a lot less time there. It's weird. Sometimes it works great; sometimes it doesn't work at all. Sometimes it just depends on which computer I'm using (I have two desktops and two Chromebooks), so if the ad-blocker doesn't work on one I just switch to a different computer. Overall, I'm watching way less YouTube than I used to, so if the ad-blocker totally stops working it doesn't matter. I'll just go read a book or something productive like that. LOL! |

If you choose “following” then all the posts from those you follow will be in chronological order. It is not permanent though and you have to pick this option every time you go into IG. |

That poster has since updated her post to correct it to YouTube, not Facebook. Although truth be told, I don't mind ads on Facebook. I have bought some pretty good things from ads I've seen on Facebook, and I have 'discovered' several of my favourite clothing stores on Facebook. ETA: But I would not be happy if the ads preventing me from being able to just keep scrolling if it didn't interest me. |

Artists (and supporters) are boycotting Meta on Mondays, no logging in at all, to protest the AI farming they've added with no easy way to opt out across the board. I have been using IG since 2010 and have over 9600 posts, the changes they've enacted (I want to say since Meta purchased them) have been nothing but terrible, IMO. I get it, it's all for money. Well, I don't have to contribute to a billionaire making more. I'm looking into Cara for following the artists I enjoy and I know some artists are having to purchase AI protection software for when they do post their art. It's insanity. Have AI do something we all need, not just steal work from artists for people who don't want to hone their own skills. /rant over |

This has been my experience too, I had to turn my ad blocker off for YouTube entirely for the videos to even play and it has gotten beyond annoying. The V-Shred commercials are so long (and they often come up multiple times during the same video) so it ends up being twice as long watching the stupid ad as the video I wanted to watch in the first place! The V-Shred and Miracle Balm commercials are the worst and come up the most often, followed closely by the stuck poop one, ugh. If Instagram starts running them too, I’m out. I hadn’t ever heard of Cara before so I’ll have to check that out and see if it has content I’m interested in. |

Some artist I follow are posting there and on IG still. Others have opened accounts to “save” their username, but haven’t left IG yet. Cara is also having growing pains. Since they are ad-free they are having server issues that comes with growth. I don’t know how they’ll survive without a revenue base. |
