My daughter did it during Covid and did ok - tried again during summer break a year or two later and found profitability had really plummeted - maybe too many drivers in our area and tip fatigue but really didn’t make much. At that time Walmart was by far worst jobs and she refused all of them after waiting forever for a ton of bags she carried up 3 flights of stairs and received no tip and a ridiculous base fair - I don’t know if they finally fixed that but it was a known issue a few years ago. Best of luck - fyi a friend of hers had much much better luck as delivery for a particular restaurant - in this case mid to high end Chinese - so if there’s a solid restaurant in your area you might explore that as well. Very loyal customer base.

Sometimes Walmart changes items ordered for shipping to delivery by store (presumably depleting store stock first?). I discovered this after my cousin received a Walmart delivery while I was at her house. She was confused as to why it was in bags and discovered it was changed to delivery by store after the order was completed. She felt bad because it was Easter and the person even went out of their way to leave a cute note with candy. She wanted to tip them but couldn’t find a way to on the app due to the order originating as one for shipment. Customer service was of no help when she called.

Sometimes I order something on a day when I am not at home, knowing I will be home when it comes. Im so annoyed when it is then delivered by the store. And no, I wouldnt tip for this service as I did not request it.

I believe WalMart does not allow tips for delivery or pick up They definitely did for DoorDash ones - at least a couple years ago. If they aren't allowing tipping now, I hope they've significantly upped their base fare. It was about a 1/3 of a comparable food delivery before.

I believe WalMart does not allow tips for delivery or pick up They don’t for pickup, but absolutely do for delivery. It’s a huge part of the delivery drivers pay. Generally in my area these people do not work for Walmart, but are independent contractors. When you check out there is a place where an amount is automatically selected and you have to change it if you want to pay a different amount. For smaller orders it is around 4 dollars and it offers small increments as options, but larger orders I believe it automatically selects like 10%.

I did door dash a bit last year. It was for extra money not my regular job and I didn't do all the tips and tricks to get the highest amount. I just accepted any job.
Depending on the night, I could make up to $80-100 in a five hour shift. Medium sized college town. I hated when I'd end up downtown as there is no parking and I wasn't going to park illegally. I'd rather drive further than have to go downtown

Thinking about becoming a door dash driver, for some extra moola. Any tips, if you do this…? How much is the additional coverage on your auto insurance for doing this work? If you are in an accident and are in the process of a delivery, you can really mess up your auto insurance coverage.

Did you act as an independent contractor so that you could write off the gas, insurance and other car expenses. Does a person really make a decent amount of money for the time and bother that is involved or is this a time-filler where you get some cash?

According to my State Farm agent, you only need additional coverage if you are transporting people.

I just put the information into Free Tax USA and they determined the amount to write off. I know some people do it for real money. I did it for extra cash while trying to pay off things to buy xh our of the house. Most nights for a 4 hour shift or so, I made about $80-$100. Some nights more, some nights less. You sign up for shifts if they are available and they only let x number of drivers drive a shift. Sometimes they get busy and you can "Dash Now" and pick up a couple of runs while you are out an about.

I just tipped them this morning when my groceries were delivered. they DO on delivery when you order for delivery. But when you order 'to be shipped' and WM chooses to have it delivered from your local store - there isn't a way to tip the driver unless you happen to catch them at the door delivering and have cash on hand. IME I'll just open the front door and see my order on the stoop or I'll get an email telling me it's been delivered and I don't actually see the driver to tip in person and because I had ticked ship to me when ordering, there wasn't a tip screen there. And TBH, I almost never have cash on hand.

There are Door Dash (sometimes multiple company) drivers videos on Youtube that you might pick up some tips from.
ETA: And I would like to add that I also dislike it very much when Walmart changes ship items to store delivery. I ordered shipped for a reason!

I don’t HAVE to do it so I think it would be nice to pick and choose. I have a good paying job but some nights I think this would work well. Thanks for your input!

With the “hand it to me” you can catch them at the door.
