I was offered a new job and I accepted!

I work in the public sector of my field and while I love the people I work with, the municipality I work for, and a lot of the work I do, I’ve had a fear that my career is going to stagnate in my current position. I won’t go into all of the boring details, but there is no way to promote within my company unless someone above me promotes or leaves. The person in the job one position higher than mine has been with the company for 7+ years with no sign of leaving.

I work with the private sector on a regular basis and one of the companies I work with showed interest in me back in February/March. I reached out to one of their directors and she immediately asked me to send her my resume and scheduled an interview. I had a Zoom interview in March and she asked me to come into their head office in May for a formal interview. Within a week she offered me a job that is a huge professional promotion and an even bigger financial promotion. I was in shock (and soooo excited!). She and her team created a new position for me and even had to create office space for me. I start at the end of the month.

The timing for this opportunity couldn’t be better and I am anxious to get started! I am also feeling a bit overwhelmed because this is a position created for me and I have a lot to live up to. I know I can do the job but I want to be successful!
