Do you practice daily? Ever used an app? How does it differ, really, from typical yoga?
I must have searched for the correct combination because I am being bombarded by ads for Somatic Yoga apps and local classes. Was it my trouble sleeping, or my stress is causing weight gain?
I am intrigued.
Background: I do not practice yoga, I take 1-2 sessions per year because something social pops up. I have 4 exercise classses each week and am a not dedicated stretcher.

Somatic yoga is more about internal awareness than the poses. Years ago the non profit I worked for did a lot of Trauma Informed Yoga and it seems to be very similar to what Somatic yoga is now (stress and trauma is stored in the body and this approach is a pathway to letting you deal with trauma when you aren't ready to do traditional therapy).

I haven’t done somatic yoga but have done somatic exercises via a program from someone I found on instagram. And when I say exercises, in a way it’s just stretching. And simple movements-sitting, standing, laying. Very relaxing. And with this you release emotion and trauma that is stored in your body. It is effective for me. I feel lighter after. I cry doing some of the movemebts. It is kind of wild. If you are on instagram the woman’s program I follow is theworkoutwitch_ One fee, lifetime access.

I asked about this a couple of weeks ago and only got a few responses (thanks to those peas!), but the ones I dis get did seem to be positive.
I asked because I follow a lady on Insta (Christine Coen) who is a personal trainer and natural healing practitioner, and she posts about somatic exercise and wellness. She did some free online workshops that I watched and participated in, and I ended up signing up for some paid classes that i am really enjoying.
So far, we've done lots of breathing exercises and journaling, and we will eventually get into eft and other exercises.
She has talked about how you need to feel safe to examine your feelings/memories, which is something that is huge for me since I seem to be stuck in freeze.
I definitely recommend checking her out on Instagram and watching some of her many free videos.
Hope this helps
