It sounds interesting, and healthy, but I know I couldn't do it. It's only me and dh at home now so there is no way we could eat up all those different vegetables. Unless maybe if I was doing mostly frozen ones. We do make a lot of salads but we use the same bunch of romaine lettuce, and eat the same container of tomatoes, etc. Those things would go bad if I was focusing on eating something else since I couldn't count the lettuce twice. Although, that's probably just an excuse because bottom line is that I hate to think about thinking up what to eat, shopping, then cooking, then putting it all away... ugh. lol. This would take too much planning for me. haha Another easy way to add different plants if you’re doing a salad is to buy a bag of mixed greens rather than just romaine.

I went to the store while DD was at driving school and got watermelon, pomegranate, and an avocado.
My dinner had thyme, lemon juice and a shallot in it and I made a spinach salad.
So, with the 22 from the other day, and those seven I'm at 29. I didn't count the mixed nuts I had earlier as each individual nut though so that would put me over 30.
I think this would be really difficult in the winter..

My diet is 80% vegetable and grain at this point anyway, but this is a great reminder to include a wide variety.

Just today I got 14 of the 30 points. The potatoes was from breakfast. Everything else was from dinner. Oh and the watermelon was with lunch.
1. Broccoli 2. Green onion 3. Red onion 4. Red cabbage 5. Zucchini 6. Carrots 7. Yellow bell pepper 8. Sugar snap peas 9. Garlic 10. Bib lettuce 11. Iceberg lettuce 12. Potatoes 13. Watermelon 14. Lime
I am going to start keeping track on my phone weekly. I want to meet up with my nutritionist again and a running list will be very helpful.
Tomorrow will be left overs of most of the above but with black beans and tomatoes added. Dh and dd had honey lime chicken and tomorrow they will have ground turkey.
So I will add 2 more points at dinner.
BTW dinner was honey lime chicken Asian salads.
Tuesday is pasta night where I will earn 3 points from asparagus, yellow squash, yellow onion.

Cauliflower (3 separate points based on colors available to me) 8. Broccoli 9. Green beans 10. Leeks 11. Yellow onion 12. Carrots (4 points if you use rainbow - white, yellow, orange, purple) 13. Parsnips 14. Brussel sprouts 15. Spaghetti squash 16. Acorn squash 17. Kale 18. Zucchini 19. Celery 20. Yams 21. Sweet potatoes 22. Apples 23. Pears 24. Cabbage (I like to add it to veggie soup) 25. Beets 26. Turnips 27. Chard 28. Bok choy 29. Garlic 30. Variety of nuts which will give lots of points (none here though) 31. Bell pepper (4 points based on colors - green, red, orange, yellow) 32. Leafy greens for salads (multiple points)

What a fascinating concept, and something I will certainly give a lot of thought to. I have to limit the quantity of high-fibre food that I eat, especially within one meal, and I am always concerned that this is contrary to nutritional requirements; so this article has made me think that eating small quantities of a wider variety of plant-based foods may well be my answer.
Its winter here, so here’s my list from the last 7 days - Broccoli Currants Peanuts Red capsicum Cabbage Black beans Onion Cabbage Carrot Green beans Lemon Cauliflower Pumpkin Apple Leek Frozen peas Spinach Tomato Avocado
So that’s 19 - plus around 14 different herbs & spices (but obviously very small quantities of those). I also use a can of coconut milk in my cooking nearly every week and I guess that would count. I just can’t imagine including coffee, but the article does say to include that too.
It would never have occurred to me that there is any difference between crown pumpkin, buttercup or butternut squash because we use them interchangeably - same with the different coloured capsicums (bell peppers), so that’s a very easy way to increase the range. I could also easily add spring (green) onions to many dishes. Gosh I’m feeling quite excited thinking about this. I plan all our meals each week so I will absolutely think about this for the coming weeks.

I think I hit my 30 today. I bought a bag of mixed greens lettuce last Saturday which had six things in it, plus the cucumber and tomato I put on there was 8 things with one lunch.
I am going to have to go grocery shopping more often, or get a new fridge... my produce drawer is full.

I'm only at 22 for the week so far. Pretty confident I'll hit 30 though. breetheflea - I have two produce drawers and on Fridays after my farm box arrives, they are both full - I use one for the previous week's leftovers so we know to use those first and the other for the new produce. It's Wednesday evening and while they aren't empty, they are emptier and I'll have space on Friday for the new box. I also tend to have containers of prepped produce in the fridge proper -right now there are carrot sticks, sliced strawberries, watermelon cubes and slices, leftover green peppers, onions, and tomatoes - so only unprepped produce tends to stay in the drawers. But yes, my fridge is usually pretty full over the weekend and into the beginning of the week.

I’m not vegetarian, but we do eat a pretty good variety of foods, almost all cooked at home. I counted 27 plant points so far this wee (it’s Thurs), so I figure I’ll hit 30 for the week. This has been a pretty typical week. Good to know I’m doing something right!
