Hoping some of you can give me som advice or share experiences about this, because I have never had joint pain before.
I woke up Wednesday morning with a sore neck. I just figured I slept awkwardly. It has been impossible to turn my head from side to side, or up and down without pain. But it was bearable. During Wednesday I started experiencing joint pain. In my fingers first, but by bed time I had joint pain in all fingers, all toes, both ankles nd wrists. Pain in my knees comes and goes aswell. They sort of feel swollen and achy. And my neck is still hurting. I am having difficulty walking down stairs (going upstairs is easier), walking across the floor is uncomfortable, and I have difficultues opening bottles because my grip is so ‘weak’.
I can deal with the pain and uncomfortableness, but it is just very strange to me that this affected all og my joints pretty much over night. My neck is by far the worst, I am limiting my driving because I have such difficulties turning my head.
No fever, I am not hot, I have no rashes. I am 45 years old with decent health. No changes in environment, diet, medication etc that might have brought this on (that I can think of). I don’t understand where this is coming from. It has lasted for over two days now, and it is getting worse, if anything. My body is exhausted from being in pain constantly, and not sleeping well.
I have a doctor’s appt on Monday.
Does anyone have advice or experience to share about similar issues?

I am not a doctor. But my first thought is viral. Had you been sick in the month before this started? I also think you should take a Covid test. Seeing the doctor is good. If you note redness of joints, a fever over 100 degrees, or confusion please go immediately to an Emergency Room.

I’ll go to the ER if I do. I’ll have the doc do a Covid test on Monday. I have heard about a few people contracting it in my town recently, but no-one around me. I don’t want to overreact, but this is new territory for me and I know very little about this. Thanks again!

I’m guessing Covid or viral.
Any chance you’ve been bit by a tick and didn’t know?

I’m sorry you’re hurting. I have chronic joint pain and that is hard enough, I can’t imagine having all of it come on suddenly, take care and be gentle with yourself this weekend! My first thought is viral as well. Here is an article that might give you a place to start. Please note I am not familiar with this source, but it’s a good starting point to see if you want to delve deeper into any specific possibilities.

I’m guessing Covid or viral. Any chance you’ve been bit by a tick and didn’t know? I very rarely venture out in nature as such, but I guess it could be possible to have encountered a tick. Never thought that could be an option, thank you for informing me of the possibility.

The doctor is the perfect next step. In the meantime, warm baths can help with the pain. Get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids. It sounds miserable, I hope you get some relief soon.

Yes, your doctor would be the first stop. Surely they will order lab work right away. Wishing you the best finding pain relief.

I also have chronic joint pain from cancer treatments and menopause. Horrid, isn't it?
Luckily yours is likely to be temporary. Have you taken any painkillers?
Hugs, and let us know what the doctor says?

Hugs. I have pain in my joints, but that came on gradually, not all at once like you've described. I'm sorry, but my first thought was Lyme disease. But you don't have fever, so hopefully not that. If you do develop a fever, even a few degrees higher than normal, go to Urgent Care or the emergency room just in case.

Feel better soon! I concur that it’s likely viral, but seeing a doctor is the right first step.

I would be concerned about Lyme or other tick borne infections like Bartonella, Babesia, Erlichia, etc…. Only a small percentage of people ever see a rash from a tick bite. A visit to your doctor and bloodwork may be in order. Note that the standard ELISA test misses a lot of tick borne diseases.

UPDATE!
Thank you to everyone who took the time to share experiences, theories and well-wishes. I truly have a newfound respect for people with joint pain and rheumatic illness. I had NO idea how debillitating this could be!
I went to the doctor today. He listened to me, did some examination of my joints and took six vials of blood. He believes I have gout (my first language is not English, but I have tried to google the English terms for this s best I can). From what I understand I am most likely experiencing gout due to elevated levels of uric acid, and the uric acid has crystallized and deposits in the joints. I had never heard of this, so I had to google when I came home, and it all fits. Especially the pain described and how it usually develops in a few hours.
He took me out of work for the rest of the week because he could see I was exhausted. I haven’t slept much for days, because my neck pain wakes me up with a stabbing pain everytime I move. And the pain is diminishing. But I am taking some pills for the gout over the next week, and he gave me some pain relief which is a little bit stronger than over the counter stuff.
Hopefully I should be well-rested and rid of all joint pain by the end of the week.
Thank you peas for letting me vent and sharing your theories and experiences! And I am very sympathetic to those of you who live with chronic joint pain. This is just a terrible illness to deal with, even for a few days.

Poor you! Gout can be horrible (my husband suffers occasionally) but I haven't heard of it coming on in so many places at once before! That must have been horrible. Dh gets it in his ankle and can barely put weight on it when he has an attack. He describes it as having broken glass in his joint.
I hope you're better very soon.

So glad you potentially have answers and a treatment. I had a coworker with gout. It settled in his ankles for the most part. He missed a lot of work!
Rest and hope you’re feeling better soon.

I hope you get better soon! My BIL has gout in his feet I think? Maybe his ankles. He doesn't suffer from it all the time. He has to watch his diet too. I can't remember what triggers it for him. I'm glad you got some answers and hopefully the treatment will relieve all your pain!

And I am very sympathetic to those of you who live with chronic joint pain. This is just a terrible illness to deal with, even for a few days. Gout runs in my family--my grandma had it, as did my uncle, and as does my dad. My dad's first flared up when I was in elementary school (so he was 37ish), and I remember how sore his foot got. He had to stop eating acidic things like carrots, tomatoes and cheese, and started taking medication for it. When I was in high school, he decided that he felt good and that he didn't need to take his pills anymore ... that flare up was awful and I remember that he had to roll around the main floor of our house in his office chair because walking hurt so much!! A good reminder to keep taking your pills, lol! Unfortunately, the prescription that he was on from when I was in my 20s for 10 years or so was not meant to be a years long thing, and he developed some kidney issues from that (total error on the part of his doctor and pharmacist--hopefully wouldn't happen now with all the computerized systems!), but that's mostly under control, too. My best advice (from someone who hasn't experienced it first hand, but has watched it second hand for decades!) is to make sure to stick to dietary restrictions and prescriptions that you've been given, even if you feel great at the time

My brother has gout sometimes. Alcohol and red meat can cause it for him. He drinks 100% tart cherry juice and says that helps. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

My husband has gout and he has prescription for Allopurinol that he has been taking for years. It can be tied to red meats that cause a build up of Uric acid in the joints. There can be other causes of gout.

I have never heard of gout flaring up in the neck and all over joints like that. I've seen it in a toe (and DH sometimes gets it, though after a med change he hasn't had any issues), knuckle, and even a knee but never the neck and never all over the body all at once like that. I would have guessed maybe RA.
I hope you are feeling better soon!
