it's possible he wanted to disappear or a suicide? no matter what this is heartbreaking for his family. i hope he is found well soon. Many years about a friend's son disappeared. He was missing for 18 months. His body was found in the desert with a suicide note. So sad Anything is possible, however to me it seems unlikely that you'd pick a trip to the Greek islands with your wife & friends to do that. He was expecting to see them again soon, on a small island, so in theory it seems likely that he'd be missed and found quickly...which isn't what you'd want if you were planning to do that.

The search area has shifted to a mountainous path after new CC footage was found.
"Dr Mosley was reported to have left Agios Nikolaos beach by foot on Wednesday at 13:30 local time (11:30 BST), and new CCTV footage seen by PA news agency shows him later entering a mountainous path inland from a nearby village."

I do get the impression that not enough was done at the start and now they are playing catch up.

They did seems to focus on a small particular area as if there wasn’t the possibility of him going off in another direction but who knows 🤷🏼♀️

Was it the mayor who said the terrain is easy and it’s impossible for anyone to get lost and now the searchers are saying some paths are dangerous and it’s easy to get lost. It sounds far fetched but I’m hoping someone like a shepherd with no access such as phone, WiFi etc has taken him in and is caring for him. He apparently had an episode a few years ago that resulted in total amnesia. ETA the BBC have just put up cctv footage of him apparently walking normally past a marina and they suspect he headed into the hills. Such a sorry mystery.

Is that since they found new cctv and have changed the area they're focusing on and are thinking he might have taken a different path?

Was it the mayor who said the terrain is easy and it’s impossible for anyone to get lost and now the searchers are saying some paths are dangerous and it’s easy to get lost. Yes, but I think that was only about his first walk to get back into town...that was before they thought he might have gone on a new more difficult walk. But once again that makes no sense to me, he must have known by then he didn't have his phone, did he have a paper map? and by British standards it was a hot day and he had enough sense to use an umbrella for shade, so suddenly deciding to take a long trek in the heat, alone, in a new place and no phone and potentially no map isn't a decision you'd expect someone like him to make. He was in town, there was no need to go walking anywhere else. If he'd stopped to buy supplies, or asked to fill a water bottle, surely someone would have come forward to report that by now. So baffling!

I’ll be blunt. He’s dead, whether from foul play, suicide, or natural causes. People don’t just disappear.

If he suffered from depression it could hit anytime or anywhere. It may not have been planned. Obviously I have no idea of this man's medical history though. Interesting that he suffered amnesia before however. It seems incredibly unlikely he will be found alive. I hope answers are found for his family.

I know not in a literal sense, yes something happened obviously, but to those looking it seems like he just disappeared. This happens here in BC too often. Two I’m most familiar with are Kris Couture (I worked with his Mom) and Ryan Shtuka just vanished (at separate times) but we all think about them, keep searching and hope they are found. They were both so young. Just hurts thinking about their families and them not having answers, each just vanished. I was also just reading about the other man that disappeared from a Greek Island 5 years ago. And apparently there are a few more. Same circumstances. So odd and very sad for these families that never got closure.

Sadly a body has been found in a cave. No details yet as it's just breaking but assuming it is him, I'm relieved for his family that they have an answer but it's obviously a tragedy - whatever the cause

As time was going on I think that the chances of a happy outcome diminished 🥲

What a horrible outcome although as each day passed it was more likely. I read it appeared the person had been dead for some days which I suppose is better than being alone and suffering a while. So very sorry for his family and collleagues. A much respected and liked gentleman.

According to The Independent, cctv footage that was not shared with the media showed a man walking up a “treacherous” mountain path and that the body was found in the Abyss with an umbrella nearby.

More information being added by the BBC Bbc The body - which has yet to be formally identified - was found in a rocky area beside Agia Marina beach on Sunday. Symi's mayor said the body was found as teams were searching the coastline with cameras. A police source told BBC News the deceased had been dead "for a number of days". The body was found next to a fence, about 30 metres from the beach, and would have been visible from the beach. PA news agency reported that the body was first found by a bar manager with British journalists, after the island's mayor "saw something" by the fence of the bar and alerted staff. Agia Marina bar manager Ilias Tsavaris said rescuers had searched that area everyday with helicopters. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0kk9gvw8l0oThe what if he had been spotted earlier will be difficult for the family.

That report sounds more plausible than what The Independent was saying!

I’m sorry to hear of this outcome, although not surprised. It must be very hard the families, but I imagine also some relief about getting answers. Had he been lost at sea they probably never would have had answers. It sounds like a terrible accident, but I’m sure more details will emerge the next few days.

This is so sad. I was out for dinner, and I had three friends all message me to tell me the sad news. I was still hoping that he would be found alive, even though I knew it was extremely unlikely.

I just got home and saw the sad update.
It sounds like he might has taken a wrong turn for the second part of his walk, but no-one will ever know for sure, and ultimately he wasn't that far away so it was bad luck that they didn't find him sooner.

How sad. While I recognized this ending was going to be the most likely scenario, I was truly hoping it would be different.

He has had a couple of attacks of transient global amnesia after trying out the Wim Hof method and apparently still occasionally had cold showers which could trigger more. It can leave someone looking perfectly ok and purposeful whilst that person doesn't know who they are, where they are or that they are lost or in danger. I think this is a strong possibility of cause.
