Dr Michael Mosely is the British doctor who made the intermittent fasting diet (5:2) famous. He's written several books and had TV shows on a variety of health topics.
He's now been missing for 2 days and it's such a strange story. He's on vacation with his wife in Greece, they went on a boat with another couple and he decided to walk the 2 miles home along the coast, apparently the walk should take about 20 mins and he left just after 1pm, and his wife reported him missing when he didn't return by 7:30pm. He didn't have his phone with him.
They are searching, they've had helicopters and drones out, search dogs...and there's zero sign of him. I read one article that said a child would struggle to get lost where he did, so they can't understand how an adult man can just vanish.
There's plenty of articles if you google his name. Anyone been following the story? Any theories? The fact that he's just gone is making me wonder if someone has done something to him, rather than him just having some sort of accident.

Maybe because I always have my phone on me, but the phone left behind makes me wonder.

Yes, it's front page news here. They have cctv footage that seems to suggest he made it to the village in the twenty mins expected which changes the idea that he fell from the path into the sea. The sea search has been called off, I understand.
Very strange. I hope they locate him safe and well. I mean it's a small island.

From what I read there didn’t seem to be any steep cliffs to fall off, or obviously slippery rocks. That’s usually the case with these types of disappearances. But then there is always the many stories of tourists getting murdered. I will be following even though I don’t know too much about this man’s fame. The mystery of this disappearance intrigues me.

Is there any speculation in the UK press about what they think happened? As you said the island seems to be very small...how/where could a person vanish so completely?

I hadn’t heard of this but it does sound strange. I watched his documentary several years ago when it was talked about here. I hope he is found alive and well.

pjaye, I've only been reading the BBC reporting and there is no hint in their articles about any issues. Sometimes you can pick up things between the lines but I'm not noticing any suggestions or theories. His children, three sons and a daughter have flown to the island to help locate him.

We have a friend whose son went missing in Greece and he is presumed deceased by the family. My mom’s friend can understand this situation very well. I have my theory and the situations are similar.

I haven’t seen or got a hint of any what people think might have happened.

Well that’s not at all positive so would you care to share your theory? well I think there were people off road and they saw him and robbed him and killed him. That is similar to our friend who vanished without a trace they think in Greece. Our friend’s son may have gone on a walk and disappeared. Interpol is informed and it’s a cold case. There are dangerous thugs in every country. Most people are lovely but I don’t go anywhere by myself.

No reports seem to be alluding to anything and everyone seems to be wishing him safely home. It’s bizarre. I read that his wife reported him missing at 3 but the police refused to do anything before 6. I don’t know how accurate that is. One woman did say her grandfather went missing in a similar place 25 years ago and that was it! He just disappeared.

Was his accommodation in Pedi or Symi? That's doesn't seen clear in the articles I've read. He got to Pedi, did he continue on walking to Symi? The search team is only 25 people and may have been concentrating on the path from the beach to Pedi?

(edited out, that was on older news story not the most recent)
It seems logical to me that if he had some sort of adverse health event - heart attack, heat stroke, snake bite etc then it should be relatively easy to find him collapsed somewhere...no? Even if by some chance he was climbing rocks, it doesn't look like there's a sheer drop into the ocean, so if he did fall on the rocks surely they'd find something...sunglasses, his cap, the umbrella (the CCTV footage shows him with an umbrella up for sun protection) ...or blood

There is a thread of this on WebSleuths. I am not sure what to think --- though I do wonder if people in Greece would recognize him or not as someone well known? It's being reported he did not feel well.....so I am not sure if that could be playing into this or not. But you'd think if he passed out, got sick, etc someone would have found him by now?

Yes I am following the story. I saw it on the ABC news yesterday morning, and mentioned it (just in passing) on another thread. It is such a puzzling situation. I hope he is okay. I really like him and enjoy his TV shows.

He is shown on CCTV to have made it to Pedi ---he is shown on CCTV at a cafe that would be on the route to Symi. But then 10 min later he is seen at the Pedi Marina, heading up a mountain path that WOULD NOT be on his way to Symi. They are thinking he went North instead of heading west as he should have.

But then again it's also possible that me might have thought it was seasickness, but the nausea could have been a symptom of something more serious.

I would think if he were taken there would have been a ransom request by now. Of course there could have been one but just not announced to the media. The no phone thing is odd. But then I don’t leave my house without mine. I consider it my security device, not that I carry out of fear of missing a phone call. I have even returned home from my destination, if close by, when I opened my purse and it wasn’t in there. I use mine for the Alexa list feature for shopping.
I hope he is found safe. I think having to live with a loved one missing is the worst possible torture. I mean, having a loved one found after having passed is not easy, but at least you have closure. Never finding out if they are alive or if they disappeared on purpose would be a constant torment.

A 2-mile walk is more like 35-40 minutes (for me anyway but I'm short) which seems like a long way to walk if you are already feeling sick.
I hope they figure out what happened! So weird.

A very sad situation and I hope he is found safe soon.

Im not familiar with him or the case, but it generally takes 15-20 minutes to walk a mile. It felt weird to be fixated on that fact, but Im glad Im not the only one. 😂

Here's another recent report...https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/incidents/mystery-of-tv-doctor-michael-mosleys-disappearance-deepens-as-cctv-emerges/news-story/0c3cfa61534881edcb114305eaa1fc98
Now they are saying that the CCTV footage that puts him in the town was 30 minutes after the walk from the boat/beach...so it seems he completed the original walk, and got to the town he was going to...and then it seems he left again. Someone says they saw him at a bus stop, but there's no confirmation of him getting on or off a bus But the mayor of the town says

it's possible he wanted to disappear or a suicide? no matter what this is heartbreaking for his family. i hope he is found well soon.
Many years about a friend's son disappeared. He was missing for 18 months. His body was found in the desert with a suicide note. So sad
