Hi everyone! I'm very sleepy today ... went out last night until very late ... I'm too old to do that! I need to pick up a few groceries and that is the extent of my plans today ... My girlfriend is coming over tonight for dinner and Netflix ... no idea what dinner will be ... her choice! This is what I posted on Facebook today ... I LOVE cheese ... but not necessarily on top of my food (or mixed in) ... just on it's own or on a cracker ... brie is my fav ... hate goat cheese and blue cheese ... hmmmm, might have to grab some brie while I'm at the store! What is your fav cheese? Least fav? What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a great Saturday everybody!

DH and I took a long walk this morning ~ expected high of 85 degrees! He’ll watch golf today while I continue organizing our trip’s photos and journaling. Dinner will be grilled flank steak. Continuing on our journey, we’re in Stockholm for these pictures. Taylor Swift was doing a concert that night and the hotel was full of *Swifties*. They had a photo curtain and balloons available so we took part! As you can see, DH was thrilled to participate. I loved this message in the bathroom of our hotel:

I am going to use up leftovers tonight.. buy some salad and asparagus to go with them.
another foggy cool day.. summer has arrived!!
dh found out yesterday our doctor is retiring.. we have been going there for 20 some years. he was in practice alone.. so easy to get in for appt and easy to get responses.
so that will be fun in a few weeks I will start looking for someone new.
I will try to do some basement clean up and more scrapbooking today. dh is going to an alumni gathering at the computer history museum in silicon valley. he has never seen it.. thinks he will take a picture of every display of equipment he has worked with.. he graduated with a degree in computer science in 1974, the first year his college (western washington u) offered such a degree. back in the days of heavy math and card decks.

Happy Weekend! cadoodlebug , those are such fun photos. I'm really enjoying experiencing your trip w/you. It look like such a good time and you deserve it. leannec , I could eat cheese as it's own food group. I used to love cheese and crackers. My favorite cheese is Gouda and Edam from Holland. ntsf , that sucks about losing your doctor. What a pain in the neck for you both. I hope that you'll find someone savvy that you both love. I'm going to hang out in my office and play my video game a bit. Spoken like a true teenager. Dh still has rechauffe for dinner. Ods is having dinner w/a friend and then he's coming home after that. He works at our local antique store today. He has space there. Though he just called and he sounds exhausted. Graduation was yesterday and he's had a very busy 2 weeks w/events and excited seniors. First I have to get up and do some tidying. Says she who is comfortably sitting and doesn't want to get up just yet. Enjoy today, my tribe.

Happy Saturday! Normal Saturday here - big grocery shop this morning, then lunch. DH went into the city to buy clothes this afternoon and I stayed home and crocheted while watching the Women's final of the French Open tennis. Dinner is almost ready. We are having Thai beef salad. DH has marinated the steak and will cook it on the grill. I just made a huge salad, with loads of Asian greens and herbs in it. leannec - I love all cheese. We eat a lot of goat's and sheep's milk cheeses - they are not all the same; some are really mild and others are quite tangy. The feta we usually get is sheep's milk, which is how it is traditionally made in Greece. I also like blue cheeses but DH doesn't so much. Again - some are milder than others and I tend to stick with the milder ones. When we were in Mainz and had our amazing multi course dinner, the course of the set menu we skipped (because we didn't want 6 course, and it was the one they left out) was the cheese course. Some other patrons had the cheese and it was incredible to see. They had a glass cabinet with something like 20 different cheeses, and they wheeled it to the table and you got to chose 5 or 6.

Happy Saturday!
I'm puttering around the house this morning cleaning and watching TV. It's supposed to be 97 today so I'm hiding out inside.
Dinner tonight will be at a fav DC restaurant of mine that just opened in Dallas. it will be a fun girls night and we're going to Uber so we can enjoy ourselves.
Hope you all have a good day!

The only cheese I've ever met that I don't like is Swiss. Something about Swiss tastes bitter to me. Now it could be that just the kind my dad used to buy was bitter and it's not an all Swiss problem. But I haven't tried since I was like 8. I'm sticking to the fact that I don't like it. 😂 Seriously immature of me. Honestly cheese will be the most difficult part of a vegan diet for me. Followed by seafood. cadoodlebug that pic is hilarious. Your DH is a good sport. Jeremy would do the same. He would take the pic but be mumbling under his breath about it. 🤣 My washing machine broke the other day when Chloe was here doing laundry. One of the springs inside. So yesterday Jeremy went and got a new spring...for $135. He took the whole thing apart and installed it. Then I ran a load this morning, spring broke again. He got to see it in action and it is actually a motor problem. The spring breaking it just a side effect. He called the parts store. $250 for the part and then they warned him that he was most likely not going to be able to take the motor apart himself. So another 200+ for labor. We went this morning and bought a new machine. 🙄 I mean almost $500 + the 135 for the new spring? May as well buy new. The machine will be here on Thursday. So my mom is stopping by in a bit to pick up Chloe's laundry and take it to her house to do. Chloe's been working her tail off so we are all trying to help her. I'll go there tomorrow and throw in a load so I have clean undies. I've just been doing some food prep otherwise. I made Jeremy a big batch of cookies to take and share with his friends. He's being picked up in just a bit and he won't be back until Wednesday night. Other than that? Nothing going on really. I'm going to cook some lentils to have on hand for sandwiches. I found out last week that I really enjoy sourdough bread toasted with a tofu "ricotta" spread (I really don't think it tastes like ricotta but it's delicious), lentils and tomatoes and cucumbers. Delicious. I'm also going to toast some chickpeas in Greek spices for some chickpeas Greek salad wraps. I think that's what I'll have for dinner tonight.

I don’t know what’s for dinner tonight. I was thinking pizza, but maybe I should poke through my overstuffed freezer and find something easy to cook instead. I keep NOT doing that, and as a result, there’s no room left in either freezer. AGAIN.

I'm quite jealous of this idea actually. However I have found that if things go down to my basement freezer they are never heard from again. 😂 I am out of sight out of mind. This is something I absolutely must improve. I'm nervous my garden will just overproduce this year and I'll need to freeze and can. And then I'll never see it again. 🤣😂🤣😂

Now it could be that just the kind my dad used to buy was bitter and it's not an all Swiss problem When I spent a week in Switzerland, going to the different cheese towns was the highlight of the trip, that and the chocolate! It was so unique to be able to see where the animals eat the plants and then be able to see the entire process of the cheese-making. Gruyères and the Emmental regions were only a couple of places that I went to. Delicious. Also when I was in the Netherlands, I went on tours to Edam and Gouda cheese factories. Look for the imported products as they are authentic.

Happy Saturday! leannec I am dragging today as well. We were out way too late last night. Today is DD birthday. She is 36. How did that happen??? DH and I went and picked strawberries. Will probably be the last fresh ones we get this season. Then we made it to a grandson's baseball game. Went to the store to pick up a few last minute things. Now to clean. I think my parents will arrive Monday. No idea how long they will be staying. Dinner is rechauffe pork chops.

I love cheese, though I don't eat much of it anymore.. but in our family we ate gjetost (or brunhost).. which is a firm cheese, 50% goat, 50% cow. it is norweigan.. and they eat it on waffles. we ate in in sandwiches, and I love it with grapes, pears and apples. it tastes like caramel. it is dark brown.
my dad loved cheese and would stop by the pike place market in seattle on his way home from work and grab a hunk or two of cheese.. swiss, emmentaler, gouda.. whatever.
now I am hungry for lunch.

I went out early today for breakfast then a quick trip to Walmart. I've been looking for something to keep my cooking oil and olive oil out. In NY I had them in a plastic squirt bottle right by the stove and they were fine. I did the same thing here and my oil has a rancid taste. Do you keep yours out by your stove and if so what do you keep them in? It's another hot day so I'm glad I'm indoors now. I'll be working on my planner and maybe color some images for cards while I watch a movie.
For dinner we are having tuna fish sandwiches.

I do throw tail ends of things in there, but that’s not really the problem. The problem is I buy roasts and other meat on sale, throw it in the freezer, and then never take it out again. When I want to, say, have a roast tomorrow, I go to the supermarket and buy whatever is on sale this week and cook that instead. There’s a whole turkey in there from 2022? 2023? That needs to come out and be roasted or tossed ASAP. I want my freezer back. Feel free to nag me about the turkey, dinner peeps. But not for a couple of weeks. I’m going to be gone the next two weekends. Oh! Maybe DD wants the turkey. I can take it up to her place next weekend.

Well, I found three ears of corn in the fridge I’d forgotten about. Going to air-fry those and eat some for dinner. If I need something more, there’s sourdough bread and good cheese. ETA ntsf, I have made a vow to never buy an “extra” turkey for the freezer at Thanksgiving time again. I never end up using them.

I picked up a cute decorative oil/vinegar set in Tuscany. I go through tons of olive oil so it doesn't go bad in that size jar. The big Costco bottle is in the pantry. I refill every few weeks. I'm not currently going through the balsamic fast enough with the kids away, so that one sits empty and the balsamic is also in the pantry.

I love cheese - edam is probably my favourite followed by brie but I'm really not picky except I don't like Munster or Kraft American.
olive oil is in the pantry in the dark.
dinner here is tea sandwiches (cucumber/cream cheese and tomato/cheddar), watermelon salsa with tortilla chips, and carrot sticks/guacamole - perfect for a hot summer day (high was 98 here and humidity makes it feel hotter -yuck). I'm trying to stay on top of our farm box so we don't waste.
This week we got a BIG watermelon, 8 tomatoes, 7 little cucumbers, 5 sweet potatoes, 2 delicata squash 3 BIG yellow onions, 7 peaches, and a dozen red potatoes - this is the 1-2 person box (there are 3 of us). And I still have stuff leftover from last week. I keep upping our vegetable intake and I need to up it some more obviously.

lucyg: Funny turkey story: my dad invited us for Christmas dinner a few years after he and my mom divorced. He said he had a turkey in the freezer that he needed to use. He cooked it and we sat down for a lovely dinner. We cut into the turkey and the meat was a metallic green colour. No lie!! I’ve never seen meat that colour. I asked dad how long the turkey had been in the freezer and he said “about 8 years!” We had Kentucky Fried Chicken that night for supper. I met a former coworker of mine for lunch today. She lives quite a distance from me so we met half way. It was great to see her and catch up. Supper was grilled steak, baked potatoes and corn.

Do you keep yours out by your stove and if so what do you keep them in? My olive oils (plural, because I have so damn many bottles!) are kept in the cool dark pantry, in the dark glass bottles they come in. Clear glass is not recommended. Olive oil should definitely NOT be kept in plastic. ETA: here is an article about the correct storage for olive oil: Olive Oil Storage & Handling
