So in the aftermath of the scam interview I found a position off of the association website for my profession. Prospective employers have to pay to post and you have to be a member to see the posting so it's a legit gig. I went through the process of applying, they have checked out my portfolio twice and I got a hey if we're interested in you we'll reach out next week email today.
I'm swamped with projects at the moment (I agreed to one project to help with my depression I've been mired in and wound up with 3 more). But I'm hopeful to at least get a call from these guys next week.
6/11 update
Official scam. I got "offered the job" then told oh we'll send you a check. I'm so angry I could spit.
Officially the oddest interview I've ever had and that includes one where I was expected to talk to a bird (yes a live bird). So I got a teams link from a text message. Clicked on it said good morning expecting a video call to pop up. Instead I got a list of questions to answer along with a code. ok, I copied the questions pulled them into word typed out my answers and sent them back. Questions were standard pre-check interview questions tell us about your experience etc. Nothing strange beyond the method.
Then he says there's a 12 week training period, we'll pay you x ammt for this time. are you ok with this?
I said yes but I have questions. The guy came back and we had an actual conversation, at least enough to let me know it was a person and not a bot. the grammar was off throughout the conversation and the whole thing just smelled fishy to me. Of course I did not give them anything beyond answers (no ss info or credit card etc).
He did give me a name when he gave me the list of questions and the name does correspond to a person listed on their website. So I did email him and say hey I'm just confirming that it is you I've been talking to.
When I got the text I did confirm that yes I applied with them, and yes they are looking. They have decent reviews on glassdoor and a presence on LinkedIn so it's a legit company. This is either a scam or a very different screening process. We'll just see how this plays out.

After almost 9 months of unemployment and several interviews that haven't been the right fit, I have an interview tomorrow. This one checks off alllllll the boxes (on the surface at least). it's remote, the work is right, the money is right and the company is one that works to be of service for a greater community. There's more than one designer on staff and what they're looking for is very specific to what my skill set is AND it's full time work (lots of contract gigs out there in my field).
Any prayer/positive energy you all can spare tomorrow morning would be much appreciated. I'm sitting down to gather my questions and get my space set up for tomorrow. I have truly enjoyed this time off and the things it's allowed me to do (time with my graduating senior, being able to pick up my younger kid from school each day). I can honestly say I'm not the same person I was when I packed up my office and walked out of the building 9 months ago. I've had to ask some hard questions of myself and have begun to understand how toxic my former workplace was.
that said I'm ready to go back to work, and financially I NEED to go back to work.
fingers crossed that the interview tomorrow turns out to be the fit it appears to be.
