After almost 9 months of unemployment and several interviews that haven't been the right fit, I have an interview tomorrow. This one checks off alllllll the boxes (on the surface at least). it's remote, the work is right, the money is right and the company is one that works to be of service for a greater community. There's more than one designer on staff and what they're looking for is very specific to what my skill set is AND it's full time work (lots of contract gigs out there in my field). Any prayer/positive energy you all can spare tomorrow morning would be much appreciated. I'm sitting down to gather my questions and get my space set up for tomorrow. I have truly enjoyed this time off and the things it's allowed me to do (time with my graduating senior, being able to pick up my younger kid from school each day). I can honestly say I'm not the same person I was when I packed up my office and walked out of the building 9 months ago. I've had to ask some hard questions of myself and have begun to understand how toxic my former workplace was. that said I'm ready to go back to work, and financially I NEED to go back to work. fingers crossed that the interview tomorrow turns out to be the fit it appears to be. Sending a prayer this is the right job for you and that you get it.

Oh no! Sorry it was a scam. Similar thing happened to my sister, website checked out, everything was legitimate (info she had) but turns out scammer just provided legit info. Like you, she thought the interview was odd because it was a chat, not a video, but she did talk to a real person at one point.
They sent her a check for a computer & supplies and then told her to cash the check and send them crypto currency & they would buy the supplies with that & mail to her. She knew then it was a scam. She called the company to speak to the person and was told no one worked there with that name & they were not hiring. What a shame. I can’t stand scammers.
I’m so sorry.
PS: I can’t believe you once had to interview & talk to a bird. Wow!!

What do they mean they will send you a check?? I'm glad that you checked more deeply into the situation - and I'm sorry that they may be scammers!!

My 23 yr old niece got taken by a very similar scam and lost about $2500 (could have been twice that but she wizened up halfway through). I'm glad you recognized it for what it was. But I do hate it for you that it wasn't legit.

Ugh….I just read about the scam. People suck. How could they take advantage of people who are desperate? I hope they are blessed with really red, itchy, crusty, smelly rashes in their nether regions.
When I first found out I might not have a job next year, I joined a couple of Facebook groups for teachers looking for jobs outside of teaching. And they are RAMPANT with scams and MLM’s. It’s gross. I left all of them within days. But not before I commented on multiple posts trying to warn people. People are just too darn trusting (not you, OP…you obviously figured it out!) But I was amazed at how many people fell for really, really obvious scams.
