Anyone here know much about chemical stress tests? I have a question, and I've googled and cant find an answer.
Dad had his nuclear stress test this am. This is not his first one (he's had two bypass surgeries already). As usual, they told him he would feel the 'flushness' and get hot, and feel his heart beating faster than normal. Except, he did not feel any of that and normally he would have. He's had many stress tests like this and this is the first time he felt absolutely nothing.
He gets his results back next week, but in the meantime, is not feeling those effects a sign of anything worrisome? Im trying not to worry, but we've had this song and dance before and never had this come up. Because of other symptoms he's having (shortness of breath, some chest pain), I am assuming it's not good but there is a slim thought in my mind that maybe no effects of medicine can be normal?
Thanks!

I have not had a nuclear stress test, but other tests such a the radioactive drugs used for Pet scans, dyes for kidney stones, etc, all of which say you will feel flushed or burning, Never one have I had any feeling with those drugs are put into my veins. So I would not think it would be an indication of anything wrong.
Could be a different brand of drug, a different amount of drug, or acclimated to the drug. Does you dad have any neuropathy? That could interfer with sensations. Also, age we age, we loose some sensation due to poorer circulation providing adequate blood flow to our cells.
I'll say a prayer that he is fine.

I've had a few Lexiscan stress tests, because I can't exercise enough to get my heart rate high enough for it to be read. One time, I was very queasy. That was an anamoly. The only thing that happens to me is rapid breathing, but that is due to the racing heart. I have a stent, so this is an annual test for me. I get out of breath, because I also have asthma. Usually, this test is a huge nothing burger and I've passed it many times, except the time I had the stent placed.
The fact that your dad didn't feel anything isn't an indicator of the results. However, I'm going to think the best thoughts for your dad and wish him normal, healthy results. Please let us know how it goes.

It's hard to say without having been there to see on the monitors what physiological response there was to the medication. If they could not get a response to the medication, I would think they would have told him that right then and there, and they would recheck the IV and meds to be sure everything was correct and working, and to be sure he didn't take any medications that might affect the heart rate before the test.
So it may be that they got all the info they needed but he just didn't feel his heart racing like before. Not everyone does, and each time can be different.

When I had mine in April I didn't feel my heart rate increase-I'd been worried about how thatd be.
I did feel flushed and weirdness but in the front of my head, then around the behind my ears area and the lower back portion of my head(now that I've typed it though it was in the opposite order I think)..
I'd try not to worry, could've been they used a different tracer or something. He might've even been more hydrated or something.. They actually couldn't get my blood pressure before hand, I mean clearly I had one but mine is typically low and those automated cuffs struggle to find it, they had to go FIND normal supplies to get a reading. Weird things happen.

If there’s a serious problem you would already know.

I don’t have anything useful to add on the medical front but I will keep you both in my thoughts with hope for the best outcome.

I hope you've already found some answers. I'm my parent's tag-along for medical tests and understand your feelings. I said a prayer for you and your Dad.
