trump has said he will do a lot of things if re-elected. But two items stand out and the basis for the question for the poll.
1. He claims he will round up the undocumented folks in this country. The number of undocumented folks in this country is around 11M.
2. trump has claimed he will put a 60% tariff on all goods imported from China. And a 10% tariff on all other imported goods. Which means we will be paying prices on awful lot of goods.
My thinking is if trump is even moderately successful with either one of these or both he will create enough chaos that will send this country into a recession if not depression.
What do you think? Worrying about nothing or buckle up buttercup we’er in for a wild ride.?
lNot only has Trump called for a 60% tariff on all Chinese goods, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee has said he would impose a tariff of at least a 10% on all $3 trillion worth of US imports.

Those are concerning, obviously, but Project 2025 is deeply disturbing.
ETA: I doubt he'll put a tariff that high on China since that seems to be where he gets all his fine apparel.

Speaking of speaking of apparel from China... Back in the 1960s my uncle had his suits made in China. They were custom made and I still remember the feel of the fabric and yes it had the feel of polyester and the SAME color and 'flow'...

I have been saying this for some time. Imagine how many businesses will close if he rounds up the undocumented. I also wonder what will happen to our crops.

I think people have not thought through what it looks like to “round up” more than 10 million people (many more than that because let’s just think through how you can “tell” that someone is undocumented).

How will it be known who the "undocumented" are?? What if someone is out for a walk around their neighborhood without their ID on them but they look like an immigrant? Are they going to be arrested and hauled away to later prove they are here legally?? Is he going to make them sew a symbol on their clothes to prove they aren't "illegal?" UGH. My son just married a girl from Mexico. They are living here, legally married, but she is waiting for all of her new papers to arrive. This morning, she took her dog for a walk. She has nothing with her to prove she is in this country legally other than her marriage license, which she doesn't carry around with her.
This all just makes me so sick. Trump is such an evil little man. At this point, anyone who supports him is just as nasty as he is.

Over the years citizens have been deported, including veterans who are citizens and those who were promised citizenship for serving... Takes years to get them back to their families if ever..
Several years ago locally here, one family member was picked up, 'authorities' went into homes and gathered papers and left. Remaining family members were unable to produce the papers including naturalization and/or legal residency papers for themselves and the person taken.. Tough situations..

I don't want to get into a Godwin's Law rhetorical situation here but in seriousness that's what it would look like.

I’ve read a lot of ugly things on this board but this is without a doubt the most vile comment I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe you had the audacity to post this reducing an entire group of people to no more than slave laborers so your wants and needs are met. They take these jobs because people like you think that type of work is beneath them. Disgusting.

Honestly, I think that if the convicted felon wins the election, the economy is going to be the least of your problems. He has already said that he won’t declare himself a dictator ‘except for maybe the first day’ - it won’t take more than that to lead to destruction of your country. It will also put world peace at risk - gas prices are irrelevant when you’re under attack from a foreign force.

The contingent group of people who do the manual labor are usually immigrants or un-documented. ntsf is a kind pea and would never be rude. BTW, I'm not American and I do agree with her statement. Look at movies, tv shows, news articles and you will see that there are few & far between caucasian people doing this labor. Some, absolutely yes but not even a true minority.

And while you might want to think that’s what liberals (and Californians) believe, the fact is that most of those jobs ARE performed here by Mexican, Central American, and Asian immigrants. Ask my extended Mexican and Asian family members. They’ll say the same thing. Honestly, you owe her an apology. ETA my Mexican and Asian extended family members who are NOT working jobs like that. Because they or their forbears came here and DID take those jobs, and succeeded and built a better life for their families. Just like my Jewish forbears did. Just like (I assume) your whatever forbears did. The more I think about it, the less I get your point, besides jumping on a chance to yell at a liberal.

Yes, immigrants do many jobs native born people won't. So do many undocumented immigrants. They do work very hard, they send monies home to feed their families.
Vile is what the 'golden idol' spews daily about retribution because he thinks he has been so wronged. He has been a racist denying housing to minorities in the early 1970s. And he was fined for it. He has abused very young women for years. And the list goes on....

I’m not the least bit upset because you all hate Trump, doesn’t bother me a bit. This might be hard for you all to understand but it’s quite possible to be a conservative and not be a fan of Trump’s. I’m well aware that most of those jobs are preformed by immigrants and I wasn’t jumping on a chance to yell at a liberal. I have no idea what her political leanings are and I don’t care. I found her post to be condescending and I voiced my opinion and I won’t apologize for that.

I really hope that as a nation we have better common sense and higher morals than to elect that man again. If we don’t, then it’s going to be a very quick downward spiral

Some analysts are saying convicted felon’s economic plan of cutting the 1%ers taxes, slapping tariff’s on most if not all imports and deporting millions of immigrants will cause a recession by the middle of 2025. Which is mere months after he takes office . So the 50 of us who answered yes to the poll question are not the only ones who think a vote for trump will push this country into a recession. “According to an analysis from Moody's Analytics, Trump's MAGAnomics economic plan ⎯ slash taxes for the rich, spike import tariffs, and institute mass deportations of immigrant workers ⎯ would trigger a recession by mid-2025, with an economy that would slow to an average 1.3% annual growth, vs. 2.1% under Biden.” The whole story from MeidasTouch is in the .tweet. x.com/meidastouch/status/1804337479144870132?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

I found her post to be condescending and I voiced my opinion and I won’t apologize for that. It’s only offensive if you have the elitist view that those are not important and honest jobs. Recent immigrants have long been our laborers, construction workers, etc. That was true when my Irish ancestors fled the famine and did any odd job they could upon arriving here, and it’s true now. The reason immigrants come and work those jobs is because they believe the American dream still exists. A farm laborer today has kids who are white collar professionals 25 years from now - something often not possible in the countries from which they travel. It’s not condescending to accurately say that our economy would suffer without immigrants doing those jobs. Rather, I find it offensive that so many Americans want to pull up the ladder behind them when their immigrant forebears followed the same upward path.
