If you do mixed media (messy stuff) on your layouts, what do you use the most?
For me:
1. Stencils. Love them. I'm always happy with my pages that have been stenciled. My stencil collection is huge. 2. Splatters. I have several different products I splatter with. I love a splattered page. Except for red- that always looks like blood- it only works on a Halloween page. 3. Stamps. I don't have a huge collection of stamps, but I do like the look when I used them. I did a layout with a beer stamp this week and it delights me.
I occasionally will do Nuvo drops or I acrylic paint a wood piece or die cut.
I don't do watercolor or other techniques like that. I don't like how it warps the page and I'm too impatient to let it dry. I like the look, though.
And while we are on that subject, my NJFB kit came with two Tim Holtz crayons. I've never used them before and I need to figure out how to do that. I guess I should do some YouTubing.
What messy stuff do you use?

I'm not a very messy crafter but I do stamp on layouts and use nuvo drops. I HAVE stencilled on layouts but only during Shimelle's stencilling class

1. Stencils. I love stenciling with inks. Love the look with pastes, but don't do that often. 2. Splatters. I am not good at this. I usually get blobs rather than pretty splatters. Need to work on getting enough water into the medium first, I guess. 3. Stamps I own a ton of stamps, but don't use them often. I really like the look of overlapping designs like grids, but don't often think of them until I already have photos on my page, and when I DO think of them, I lack the patience to follow through. The most fun I have had with stamps has been fall leaves--stamping outlines, then smooshing over the top with blending brushes and then stamping again. 4. heat embossing. With my leafy designs, I like to finish off the last layer of stamping with gold or copper embossing powder. But again, this requires the patience to let the earlier layers dry before starting this one. 5. water brushes. Lately I have been having fun with Oxide inks, spritzed water, and water brushes. I find that this dries really fast, and I like the look much better than my attempts at blending with dry inks or with markers.
6. Nuvo drops. Oh! Just remembered. I love using these little bottles to write title words and draw things! And sometimes as drops, but not often.
artbabe , I find that the warping issue is not so bad when using paper designed for wet media. Vicky Boutin foundations cs dries pretty flat. I used some Bristol cs the other day for water colouring, and it warped up immediately almost into a circle. But when it dried, it was completely flat.

Since I dislike messy, I do minimal mixed media using: - Stencils (non-layered) with pigment ink (specifically Versafine Clair or VersaMark) or the occasional glaze - Basic stamping with pigment ink (see above), including a splatter stamp! - Heat embossing on occasion (using Ranger Super Fine Detail powders) - Inking edges occasionally with pigment ink (see above) ETA: ... my NJFB kit came with two Tim Holtz crayons. I've never used them before and I need to figure out how to do that. ... Uncertain if the Tim Holtz crayons are equivalent, but I use the Vicki Boutin Art Crayons primarily to tint VB Creative FX Iridescent Glaze or as watercolors on rare occasion.

I love the messy look but I struggle with making it look natural (as in look like I know what I'm doing or have some artistic talent). Here are messy mixed media techniques I have used in the past several months: Watercolor (my favorite, but also one I find challenging to utilize) Splatters (with mists/sprays, acrylic markers, watercolors, distress inks, dye inks) Stencils and masks (using sprays or inks) Stamping (using inks and sometimes markers) and sometimes using found objects instead of stamps Watercolor with stamping on top Watercolor with rub-ons on top (one I'm trying today) Messy Stitching (hand and machine) Stamping with splatters on top Inking edges Outlining with markers Heat embossing (rarely, but I still use it but not usually in a messy kind of way) Dry brushing with acrylic paint Adding stickles (glitter glue) to diecuts or alphas or on top of a pattern on patterned paper I also have some pastes and gels I've used with stencils in the past but not recently.

For me it’s:
Stencils with embossing paste or glitter gel
Stamping with pigment ink and embossing
Oxide ink
I don’t do well with messy although I like the look when it’s done properly.

When I use mix media on a page I almost always reach for stencils with some sort of paste. I love the texture. Then it would stamping followed by mist splatter.

I’m not really into the messy look, but I do use the following:
1. Stamping more than any of the others. I was a stamper before I was a scrapbooker.
2. Inks/Stencils.
3. Wink of Stella, which really isn’t that messy.
4. Heat Embossing
5. Nuvo Drops
About the numbering…….other than stamping being listed first, the others don’t necessarily come in the order that they are used the most.

I use the same…stencils, stamps, splatters…
The mediums I use most are distress oxides. I have VB crayons and cosmic watercolors, but don’t use them a ton. I also have pastes, which I don’t use much at all. I like the look of layered mixed media, but I’m also very impatient when it comes to drying, and pastes take a long time to dry.
