Good morning all! While scrapmaven and Mr. Maven are on their little getaway, I’ll be your host today and tomorrow. Do some of you have the day off today for Juneteenth? What does everyone have planned to do today? I know a lot of people are staying inside because of the heat. By Saturday, we're supposed to be up to 102°. I grilled tri-tip steaks last night that were delicious. I need to think about what to fix tonight. Maybe pork chops and baked yams. What’s on your menu? Day 2 in Iceland – afternoon After returning to the hotel from Sky Lagoon and eating lunch, we boarded the bus for our afternoon excursion. We visited Halgrim’s Church which was amazing. Through the wonders of my Galaxy S22, I was able to remove the tourists who were standing all over the place in front of the church. A photo from the Internet to show how massive the church is. Our next stop was Perlan - Wonders of Iceland - it is a versatile and unique landmark in Iceland. The first thing you notice is the glass dome. This dome stands between six large tanks, in one of which hot water is stored for Reykjavik city by means of geothermal energy. We didn’t have tickets for anything but the roof deck which gave us incredible panoramic views of the city and water. But it was sure cold and windy! Brrrr. View from the roof.

Gorgeous photos cadoodlebug! I am attending an "afternoon tea" in my condo building today ... we are just a bunch of old ladies who get together and it is fun! Other than that I am taking out a bunch of garbage and recycling ... that's it! Dinner might be takeout of some sort ... It's not hot here like it is for many of you ... the weather in western Canada is different from the east right now ... we had a dump of snow in the mountains!

Good evening all,
Today I met my friend in the city for brunch and then after lunch I went for a mani and pedi, so my nails are all lovely again.
I received a sad phone call from my son while I was out. His MiL was taken to hospital from her nursing home after a fall that resulted in several broken bones, including her hip. She has been in poor health for some time and the prognosis is not good - the doctors are talking ‘comfort care’ and her priest has been in to anoint her. Please pray if you are a prayer person or send good vibes into the universe. None of us is expecting her to recover - we are praying for peace for Leonie, her husband, her children, in laws and grandchildren.
Dinner for me tonight is chicken kebab meat - bought frozen from the supermarket, with fried potatoes and sweet corn. Germany’s second game in the Euro cup is about to start, so I’ll be watching that over dinner.

sueg saying prayers for your son's MIL and the family. Enjoy your "afternoon tea" leannec ! I woke up with plans to get things done around the house. Was able to do a load of laundry and sweep but now I have to stop. Somehow I was moving things around in our small closet and had a box fall from the top shelf and hit the side of my nose. It's a little swollen but I am icing it down and praying that it won't get bruised. No idea what's for dinner tonight.

Thanks for starting the thread (and for the travelogue!), cadoodlebug. Enjoy your getaway, scrapmaven. I’m sorry to hear about your son’s MIL, sueg, and I hope your nose doesn’t blow up with a bruise, bklyngal62. Sorry I’ve been so out of touch. I went away for the weekend and then I caught a stomach bug the moment we got back (thanks, mom … I got it from her, and of course I had it worse than she did). Dinner on Monday was a Hi-C orange from McDonald’s, and that was all I had all day. Today I’m finally feeling 100% again, and tomorrow I’m headed to a four-day crop. So I may not show my face again till next week. Just wanted to check in. Hope everyone who hasn’t posted yet is well.

Happy Wednesday!! Man, the days just keep wizzing by. I wasn't on much last week. I was quite a week. Kaits cat escaped while she was leaving for work. He is 99% an indoor cat. By the time I got over to her house he was nowhere to be found. We did all the things for three days and finally on the third night she caught him on a game camera. It took some coaxing at three in the morning, but she finally got him. The little bugger just acted like nothing was out of the normal. She was sooo upset while he was missing, so glad he's back safe and sound. I've been doing a lot of outside stuff and getting lots of baby snugs. I finally finished the quilt top I was working on for the quilt along. I have another one that I made but it was just off, and I couldn't figure out what the deal was. I stayed up until 2am ripping the whole thing apart. I am going to check and recheck my blocks and sew it back together. My husband thinks I'm a goofball. He said I don't see anything wrong with it, to which I responded that you aren't even looking closely at it. I knew if I just let it go it would drive me nuts. lucyg glad you are feeling better and that you can make it to your crop!! cadoodlebug Thank you for starting the thread!! I appreciate you. leannec Your ladies tea sounds fun!!! I hope you have a good visit with the ladies of the building! bklyngal62 Hope your nose feels better. That is such a sensitive place to get hit. Ouch!

I started the day with coffee at a friends house for a little catch up. I came home and started weeding the front bed and adding some bulbs I got inexpensively at Lowe’s. They may not grow but I’m a risk taker. 😂
I had a huge to do list but my daughter stopped by with 7 1/2 pounds of absolute perfection (AKA my 5 week old granddaughter) so I am whiling away my afternoon rocking a sleeping baby while my daughter catches up on her sleep.
Dinner will probably be a burger and some veggies of some type. Or maybe ice cream. Cuz I just read a quote on Pinterest that said Always Choose Joy and I find much joy in ice cream!
Wishing you all a very joyful day!

Happy Juneteenth Wednesday!
I'm off today and have been fairly productive. I got my car inspection done this morning and then picked up my wine order and took my parents to brunch. I'm sitting down for a bit to Pea and then I'm going to clean out my freezer as it's packed and garbage day is tomorrow.
We're playing Bingo at our local Tex-Mex place tonight. I usually don't go because I'm pooped after work and it's very loud and crowded. I plan on getting a nap in sometime today so I don't really have an excuse not to go. My mom and I will split a taco platter.
Hope you all have a good day!

I know a lot of you could use positive thoughts so I am sending them out to EVERYONE! What a sweet picture The Birdhouse Lady. I met my bestie for lunch today. We had a good chat. I worked out this morning at home then did some laundry and picking up around the house. I want to order some prints to work on my PL album. The plan for dinner was to meet up with some friends and try a new restaurant. Those plans have now been changed to taking a grandson to his baseball game. I will admit it, I am about gamed out for the week. Dinner is up in the air.

What the heck is Juneteenth?? Took my mom into the city this morning. She needs a refill of her potassium pills and they are nowhere to be found. We went to 4 different pharmacies and everyone said the pills are on back order and won’t be available for at least a few weeks. I told my mom that she better stock up on bananas. We then found a few bargains at the mall, had a blizzard from Dairy Queen and came home. I'm babysitting the grandboys tonight while DS and DDIL take my mom out for supper and to the casino. This was her Christmas gift from them and they are finally making good on it. Mom is so excited. DH is feeling 100% today which makes me very happy! sueg: Thinking of your DS and family during this difficult time. Supper is take out pizza. We are in the peak of the heatwave so I’m letting someone else cook.

What the heck is Juneteenth?? A newish holiday celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, enslaved people were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.

in 1865, somehow the slave owners in texas did not tell the slaves that they were free til june 19, 1865 or later..
so we celebrate juneteenth as the day the last large group of slaves (200,000) learned they were free.

cadoodlebug, I’m headed to Santa Clara this time, anyway. Even farther away. Someday maybe we’ll manage to get it together. taylortroop, Juneteenth is a proud American holiday (not legalized until recently) and a reminder of sadder times.

I picked up Luke after nap at daycare. Even though I’m still under the weather I filled his pool and sat & watched him. Dh took over after golf. Dd is picking him up late. One of her childhood bffs had a psychotic break and is hospitalized. She was finally allowed visitors. My heart breaks for her. Both her parents have passed away and her only sibling is in jail. Her husband filed for divorce already. The whole saga has been happening on social media too. Dh brought salads home for us. Your tea sounds fun leannec. Do you all bring something? Have fun cropping lucygPraying for you son’s mil sueg how sad for them. ntsf hopefully this is it for your dh Enjoy those 50s. Still 90s here

Your tea sounds fun leannec. Do you all bring something? It is fun! Just a small group of us ... most people in our building work during the day ... there are three buildings in our complex but our tea party is just for the one I live in ... aren't we bad!? We bring our own drink (I don't think anyone brings tea except me!) ... A couple ladies bake and bring that ... I don't bake. Ever. I might bring something savoury next month

taylortroop It’s Also called Emancipation Day, Freedom Day or Jubilee Day, Juneteenth is the commemoration of June 19, 1865, the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, TX, learned that they were free. it wasn’t until then that the enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, Texas were told that the Civil War had ended and that they were free. If I remember correctly, there were around 200,000 slaves in that area. It’s been celebrated but I believe in 2021 it was declared a federal holiday. Helps to have had a father who was a social studies/history teacher so we knew about all these things.

DD usually comes to our house for dinner on Tuesday nights, but this week we went to her house. She cooked a delicious Asian dish with chicken, coconut, chilli, rice, and whatever else she chucked in there. She even made some crispy sesame tofu in the air fryer, and guess what? It was actually okay. Then on Wednesday I was craving Fish & Chips, but as I am trying to eat healthier, I didn't suggest it. But when DSO suggested it, I was very quick to agree! I'm loving your travel photos cadoodlebug ! I hope you still have heaps to share. I hope that scrapmaven is having the best time! It's not hot here like it is for many of you ... the weather in western Canada is different from the east right now ... we had a dump of snow in the mountains! That's insane! One of my other Canadian Pea friends posted photos on Facebook yesterday of her enjoying a swim, with a Humidex of 41 degrees. (I have no idea what the real temperature was.... you crazy Canadians with your Humidex ratings! ) sueg I will keep Leonie and her loved ones in my thoughts. The Birdhouse Lady aaawwwww, he is just the cutest!!
