Horse whipping (actual whipping) would not be enough punishment for such an act.

Thank goodness they didn't use anything that should be permanent, but still, I don't get when people protest in this way. I don't see how they feel it helps their cause.

WHen I was in Italy, 2 protestors glued their hands to the outside covering of a painting (BIrth of Venus, I think) to protest something similar. I do not understand why people think this sort of bullshit proves any sort of point.

I don't get when people protest in this way. I don't see how they feel it helps their cause. It draws media attention and thereby eyes and ears to their cause. No one is reporting on “protestors at Stonehenge”. Contrastingly, “Vandalism at Stonehenge” becomes a newsworthy headline.

I’m guessing logical results based thought processes went out the window when vandalizing became their preferred method of protest.

They don't understand the difference between bringing attention to your cause and winning converts. Negative actions like this alienate people, at least I hope so. These types of protests make a case for public flogging.

I get and sort of agree with your point but this group have been making protests like this for ages and I think many know who they are. I think the majority of us are heartily sick of them, no matter whether we agree with their cause or not. Two elderly women were arrested in Chester last week after they tried to spray the newly wed Duke and Duchess of Westminster orange as they left Chester Cathedral. Prince William was an usher at the wedding. Two different elderly women were arrested a couple of weeks before then for trying to break the glass cabinet protecting the Magna Carta, a document from 1215 putting in writing the principle that the King and his government was not above the law. I am just left shaking my head at their stupidity.

The news here said the issue is the lichen on the stones has been covered in the powder and they need to determine the right course of action to maintain the lichen while getting rid of powder.
And, of course, Stonehenge is due to hold the Summer Solstice.

Last fall I was there as they arrested another ecological protesting group who spray painted Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. I don’t think they do themselves any favors by protesting this way.

Good news, the powder has been removed, photos in article. Thankfully, the weather has been warm and dry BBC Orange powder paint sprayed on to part of Stonehenge by activists has been removed. Two Just Stop Oil protesters were arrested after spraying the historic site near Salisbury, Wiltshire, with cornflour at about 12:00 BST on Wednesday. English Heritage chief executive, Dr Nick Merriman, said there appeared to be "no visible damage" to the 5,000-year-old landmark after experts cleaned the site. Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Dr Merriman also confirmed the site would be open for Summer Solstice celebrations as normal from 19:00 BST on Thursday. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crgg0683e7po

There is no mention in the article but the tv news said there was a third person who got away and that they were not showing video from Just Stop Oil. Perhaps the third person made the video but that's an assumption.

Plus while driving this morning, I heard that more protesters had broken into an area of Stansted airport where private jets are parked and sprayed them with orange paint(?). Seems Taylor Swift's plane had been there a few hours earlier.

It seems like it's just a me thing, then, because I've heard these type of stories, but right now, those and even the story about Stonehenge, I already can't recall what cause was being protested. My mind just doesn't hold onto that info. It latches firmly onto what happened, but not the who and why.

If I remember who did any of these things, I certainly wouldn't opt to align myself with them. And if their cause wasn't already something I was trying to bear in mind in life, their actions wouldn't cause me to begin to do so.

I think Just Stop Oil have a very good point, they're making it very, very badly though. People are so pissed off with their tactics they're achieving precisely nothing.

I think they remove the barriers as it's a sacred place for some. You can live stream it, info in link www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/stonehenge/things-to-do/solstice/

One of the protesters, I think from the Magna Carta vandalism, was quoted as "I'm doing this for my grandchildren." She has a point, she wants to save the world for her grandchildren. Fair enough, don't we all? The legacy they are actually leaving is that the grandchildren come from a family where a member is despised by the majority of the public and will have a criminal conviction. How should they go about it? I don't know, other than constantly lobbying politicians, maybe standing themselves, etc.. Apparently the funding for Just Stop Oil comes from the Climate Emergency Fund, a US group supporting climate activism. It's part-funded by US philanthropist Aileen Getty, the granddaughter of petrol tycoon J Paul Getty. The protesters are expected to fund their own legal costs and fines according to Mr. Google.

I quite agree. P*ssing off members of the public does nothing except that people are less sympathetic to the group itself. They should be inconveniencing the people who have sway, the politicians, the CEO's of the oil companies etc, not people on their way to long awaited hospital appointments, to critical work interviews, ambulances trying to save people's lives etc.

The A$$hats are saying "The rain will wash it off." But--what about the paint that was absorbed by the porous rocks? The article referred to it as "orange cornflour," aka corn starch, so hopefully there's no real paint component here. Having said that, I hate this group's antics and although I generally agree with their position on things, I heartily detest how they try to accomplish it.
