I always liked him. RIP From Keifer Sutherland: With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.

This is such sad news. What an extraordinary actor. I watch “Ordinary People” about once a year, and his portrayal of Cal Jarrett blows me away each and every time. He was really special.

I was standing in the .middle of an aisle in a store when my DD sent me Kiefer's post. I gasped out loud. I am so sad with this news.

his distinctive voice was iconic. it was right up there with James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman in recognizability. he was also a great actor. what a loss.

OMG who now will play the role of Evil Old Man? It's all going to be up to the elder Lannister from Game of Thrones. I really like Donald Sutherland. No one does a bad guy role with such relish.
I think I saw him play a good guy once, had a hard time buying it, kept waiting for the other shoe to drop!

I’m so sad….he was always one of my favourites.
Goofy or serious or evil - he was amazing!
I could listen to that man read the phone book.
I started my car to cool it down to go make a delivery and that was the first thing on my radio. I also gasped out loud!

He was my Hawkeye Pierce from the movie "M*A*S*H" and my daughter's Mr Bennet from "Pride and Prejudice."
Rest in peace.

I just turned on NPR in the middle of a segment about him, and I immediately, thought, “oh no, did he pass away?” 😢
He had so many amazing rolls, but his tank commander in Kelly’s Heroes was my favorite.

My husband and I had a discussion about him just about a week ago about how we both love his acting. He was fabulous at each character he played. He will be greatly missed. Lovely tribute by Keifer.

I really loved him as an actor, and I am glad my kids got to know him in the Hunger Games movie. I hate the movie JFK but sometimes pull up his monologue because it is no incredible.

We have a friend who is and always has been terrified of Donald Sutherland. He texted me SO fast when he heard the news.

I absolutely loved him in MASH and Ordinary People. I still cannot figure out why he didn't win an Oscar for Ordinary People, nor why there were never any Oscar nods. He was extraordinary.

Aww. My favorite movie of his is A Time To Kill, partly because of the contrast between him playing someone so likeable and Kiefer playing opposite him as such an evil character.

So very sad. I really enjoyed him in most of the movies and roles he played. He has a house/lived on lake Memphremagog (a lake in Quebec Canada and the USA) would often be seen in the North East Kingdom of Vermont. While I think most people just left him alone, I never heard any stories come out where he was a jerk to people around the area. My thoughts go to his family and friends during this sad time.
