She will get more energy.. that first long walk was probably initial euphoria after surgery.
She needs to understand she has been through a significant trauma to her mind and body. There may be some guilt in there too. Happens when you receive a donor organ. She has a whole lot to work her way through.
She will have many adjustments to her new situation.
Wishing the very best for Madison and the whole family..

I am so happy to send a card to your sweet granddaughter! I will send it Monday. Please keep us informed. Believe it or not, I actually know about Wilson's Disease. MANY years ago, I attended nursing school in Rochester, Minnesota and worked for Mayo for a couple years after graduation. I worked in a transplant ICU and encountered patients with Wilson's Disease.
My sister is a kidney transplant recipient. A former co-workers child had a liver transplant when she was 2 years old. She is 40 now. I think your granddaughter will do well. But oh the stress right now!
Thank you so much for your kindness in sending a card to my granddaughter. It means a lot to us. I’ll make sure to keep everyone updated on her progress. It's amazing to hear that you know about Wilson's Disease! Your experience in the transplant ICU at Mayo Clinic must have given you incredible insight. I'm sorry to hear about your sister and your former co-worker's child, but it's encouraging to know they are doing well now. Your words give me hope and comfort during this stressful time. Thank you for your support and encouragement.

Your sweet grand daughter has been through such a lot in a really short period of time. No wonder she is tired! I'm happy to hear that she is continuing to improve, despite her tiredness. I hope that her spirits are lifted once she starts to receive all the cards. Have the doctors given any indication of how long she is likely to have to stay in hospital?

Do you know how long she will be in the hospital? If cards arrive after she is released, will the hospital forward them to her?

Hopefully the hospital will handle the cards appropriately. Under normal circumstances when I send a card to someone IN the hospital I use their home address as the return address, hoping they are 'return to sender' Posted June 23rd Thank you for sending a card. I live in Texas I have a bag with the basics packed but probably will no go for another week or so. My DH is up in Wisconsin as he is on a scheduled Boy Scout camp out with her brother. He flew into Minneapolis Friday as scheduled as was fortunate to be able to be with my daughter while my granddaughter was having the transplant surgery. We wanted to keep things as much as normal as possible for he brother, so they went on the camping trip as scheduled. The return from camping on Friday and will go pend the day on Saturday visiting he. My younger is up visiting and will take her brother home continuing caring for him and their menagerie of animals. We are all fortunate that he is able to stay through most of July or more as needed. My DH will return home next Sunday and then we will decide when I will go up. Right now, my daughter is able to in her room, so going to Minneapolis means hotels and cars and parking. That’s money we want to put toward an Airbnb or shorten rental when she is released but has to stay super close to the hospital. She probably won’t go back to Wisconsin for at least 4 months!I am keeping the cards thread updated. Bold mine...

I hope things continue to go well and that at least she's no longer inpatient at the hospital. What a helpful turn of events to have the therapist be someone who will understand your granddaughter's needs and concerns in regards to dancing. I hope that makes her feel more confident about the outcome of the therapy.

Saying lots of prayers that the infection and dehydration are just a bump in road to her full recovery. I want her feeling great and dancing again, too!
Sending you all much love!

Yes, Ronald McDonald House is a wonderful organization. They make it so much easier for sick kids and their families.
I'm assuming we should keep sending cards to the Ronald McDonald house address?

Please send them to the address in the OP, I have updated it with her home address. My son and her brother are there and will be visiting several times a week. Maddy lives close to four hours away. But her brother misses having her at home too. He is about 15 months younger also also has Wilson’s and is it control with medications. Thn so much for all of you for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers. Maddy is calling you all her PEA PEOPLE!
