I just can't.
It would have to be something critical that I truly couldn't get anywhere else to wait more than a few minutes to pay for.
I've walked into a TJ Maxx and right back out before because there were two cashiers and the line went nearly to the back of the store.
Honestly, corporations reducing cashiers to one or two, limiting self check out use (which I hate anyway...But Target has made every self checkout ten items or less, and still only have one cashier available), has just made me order online more.
I ordered pads, deodorant, hand cream, and hair product from Walmart online, got free shipping, and it literally arrive the very next day.
So, will you wait in long lines?

Sure. If I am there for a purpose and find what I came for why not? Most of the time the line moves quickly.
If I am there to look around and find something I will assess then if I wait or not.

I would leave in that situation too. About the only lines I wait in are at Disneyland. But, I’ve got that down to a science and don’t generally wait more than 20 minutes.

The most recent time that I waited in a long line was last weekend, and I had no choice - it was the line to go to the toilet at a football game, and I was not going to make it home on the train without going! There were 92,000 people at the stadium, and of course most people want to go at the quarter and half time breaks. The line was soooooo long! I ended up missing about ten minutes of the last quarter.

The only long line I can remember waiting in for the last 10-15 years was in TJMaxx. Went clear to the back of the store. They had 10 cashiers going and the line moved the entire time. It didn't take long after all. Normally I avoid stuff like that.

Where I live, there are always long lines, I’m used to it and really just accept it as a fact of life.

I am a very experienced line waiter, from the 1980's.....5 hours, 6 hours, 10 hours, overnight....for concert tickets. In recent years(meaning pre-pandemic) the most I've wait is about an hour....first people in the line, get the prime seats. If Steve Perry was going to do a concert and standing in line was the only option for tickets.....I'd wait in line for days (provided I had good line neighbors to save my spot, while I went to the restroom multiple times).

My body does not have the stamina and strength to wait in long lines. Nor does my patience.

Probably not. There is a Target near me that usually has one check stand open and the self scan where there are only four registers. If I walk in there and see the common really long line I either just walk out or go look at what I was thinking about to see if I want to order it. I’m not standing in that line. I also won’t wait at restaurants more than like 5 minutes. No thanks. I’ll just go somewhere else or home.

This is timely as I'm probably going to Costco today and it's a nightmare on Saturdays. Long lines and lots of people!

I guess it depends... if I went to say the grocery store, had my cart filled with everything on my list, then got to the front and saw long lines then yet I'd wait.
But if I went into a place like TJMaxx or Marshall's or any of those in that conglomerate without a purpose in mind -- I do like to browse that kind of store -- but I picked up something that I liked... and then if I saw a really long line I just might put that item back. I probably didn't need it anyway, so I wouldn't wait. However, if I'd gone in for something specific, like "a midi-length sleeveless loose dress to take to the beach" and I happened to find that exact thing I would definitely wait. lol

Depends on why I would be in the line. Yes for some things but probably no for most. My old back and osteo dictates how much of that I can do.

Not if I have a choice. For Rx meds is as close as I get to waiting in line. Much of the time I leave the Rx up to DH because I don’t have the patience for the pharmacy people. There are two people up front at the pharmacy who are rather nice. I will wait if they are working. One woman gave me attitude because she didn’t approve of my script. She didn’t last long.
Otherwise, it is common for me to stand in a line and reassess the items I intend to buy. If I have to wait too long, I may decide I want none of the items or it isn’t worth the two items I may end up left with.

Only after an emergency event like a hurricane. Most grocery stores will be closed so if you need something, you're going to wait in line for it.
On a regular day, when online shopping and curbside are available? Nah. Nothing out there worth waiting in a long line for.

Depends what it is and how badly I need it. I usually turn around and leave if the line inside a store is too long. I’ve also put things back if I saw the lines were too long. Events of course are different, but for shopping … Nah!

For the purchase of everyday goods, no. If you want my money, you have to arrange to take it in a timely fashion. I went to Abercrombie & Fitch when it was popular and the two checkout lines, starting on opposite sides of the store, crossed in the middle. I refused to wait to hand over 3x what the cheaply made garment with the store name plastered on it was worth. My kids were not thrilled with that decision.
We live in a small town where a lot of "townie" types are b*tching about self-checkouts. "They make you do their job, then treat you like a criminal..." I love self-checkouts. The lines are shorter because the technophobes want to be checked out by a human.

Same girl, SAME. I spent a LOT of time waiting in ticket lines in the 80's. Now, I won't if I can help it. Disney, no desire due to long lines in the heat. Checkout lines in TJ Maxx or Costco, if I have to I'll wait though I try to time it so I can avoid it. Though, can never avoid a long line at Costco during the weekend even if I go when it opens. Bathroom lines, sometimes that's a necessity, when you gotta go, you gotta go.

I pretty much will only wait in long lines at Disney.
Although, we do have a donut place here that does "pop ups" at the local Farmer's Market, so to make sure we get the donuts, DH and I will be in line at 5:15AM for their 7:30 open. I'm up at 4am usually, so it doesn't mean I'm getting up earlier, I just have to drive there and hang out. DH loves talking to strangers, whereas I would rather just read a book.
We have waited in line for book releases and Funko Pops! though, but I prefer to be first and it's worth it to me (for my anxiety) to spend the time earlier than later.
However, if I'm at Target and don't *need* anything, I'm walking out if there's a long line. I prefer to shop when the store opens.

I’ll wait in line IF it would take me longer to get back in my car, drive somewhere else and shop there, then check out in a 2 person line.

Right now, no, because I'm having a plantar fasciitis flare-up, and just standing is the worst. I'd rather take a number and pace the room for that same amount of time than to have to stand in a line. Now, at a store, if I had a cart, it would be okay, because I'd probably be able to walk in place a bit, or lean on the cart and do some PF exercises with the affected foot, ect. In terms of patience, then yeah, I have the willingness to stay in along line. Just not the pain tolerance. However, I really, really hate driving with other people around anymore, so I tend to try my hardest to go anywhere at the quietest times possible, so that sometimes helps reduce drivers on the road, and people in any lines.

Same. I've walked out of stores rather than face a long check out line. Groceries would be the exception. I once ordered shoes from DSW while waiting in line at DSW. DD and I had a bet that we could order them for delivery faster than the line moved. We did and left.

We went to go get take-out food and there was a really long line to order. SO got on his phone and did an on-line order. Our food was ready in about the time it would have taken us to wait in line to get to the cash register (I was watching the people we would have been behind).

So, will you wait in long lines? I don't even like going into a store that has enough people to make long lines. I don't live close to any fun stores like TJ Maxx, so when I do get to go I hate it when it is crowded. Luckily the times I usually go are weird times. DH goes to a few farm shows in the bigger cities. I drop him off and go hit stores like TJM, Marshalls, etc. It's early and the middle of the week. So unless it is Christmas time - it's usually quiet. About the only lines I wait in are at Disneyland. But, I’ve got that down to a science and don’t generally wait more than 20 minutes. My daughter is the champion of figuring out how to get on rides without long waits! It is a science for sure! She loves doing that kind of thing, so we just merrily follow along.
