After YEARS of hearing about funeral sandwiches and other delicious things made on them I found Kings Hawaiian rolls here on the east coast of Canada. And they were indeed yummy!

Happy for you!! They are so yummy!!
I remember when the Kings Hawaiian bread only came in one round loaf. You had to cut or tear off your pieces. I don’t see that anymore in the stores, only the rolls.
ETA - When I was a kid, there was a local grocery store that specialized in Hawaiian/Japanese food. Once a week they would get their order from Hawaii of Kings Hawaiian Bread and Kings Angel Food cake. The angel food cake was so good too! This is when Kings was still a small operation. Kings also has a bakery with the best Rainbow cake (guava, lime, passion fruit). I’ve never had a rainbow cake that was better than Kings. They still have a restaurant/bakery in Torrance, CA.

I'm not sure how old you are but they definitely came as tear-away rolls in the 1980s. My grandma always bought those rolls for family gatherings. I also must confess that I don't like them, they're too sweet to me. But not sweet enough to be dessert.

Here is their history. Interesting. kingshawaiian.com/our-story/

I have never tasted either the bread nor the rolls. I am not a big fan of any bread though, well, other than rye toast. My dad used to eat it at breakfast with his eggs. The rest of the family ate wheat bread, but I never wanted either. Bread was flavorless to me. My dad finally got me to try a slice of his rye bread, toasted, and I liked it. Now as an adult, I bought some Dave’s Killer Bread, the kind with a bunch of different grains in it. It is delicious. If that had been around when I was a kid, I would have eaten it. I will look to see if the store near me has the King’s rolls, just so I know what everyone is always talking about.

We love the different sliders made with these rolls but not a fan of them as just general dinner rolls. I don’t like my dinner rolls sweet. At one point they had other varieties that were good but I haven’t seen them in the store here for a few years. The sliders are ok because of the Dijon mustard tames it. I used to make a veggie/spinach dip that you served in the center of one of the rounds - so good but it needed the savory dip to counteract the sweet.
I love how such a little thing can make a person’s day.

Kings Hawaiian Rolls are a staple at our family Thanksgiving. Now I see in our grocery store they not only have the rolls, but loaves of bread and sandwich rolls.

I don't buy them because we like them TOO much!
My family could scarf down a whole pack in a day, I'm sure.
We've bought them for Thanksgiving before, but I've never made funeral sandwiches with them.

I’ve started making the funeral sandwiches on Kings Hawaiian mini sub buns instead of the smaller buns/rolls. But either way they are delicious!

My local grocery sells them in a 4 pack so I'll get that along with some turkey and make sandwiches for the week at work - I love them!
