We don't have a/c (And boy oh boy has this past week been fun. ), but if we did, then yes, I'd still use the oven if the need/desire for a specific food item was there. I wouldn't use it nearly as much, because I don't use the oven as much in general during the summer. We eat a whole lot more cold foods, plus we grill outside, too.

I don’t notice a difference when using the oven but I can feel a bit of difference when cooking on the stovetop. Yes, this! To me, the stovetop generates more heat than my oven. If the house feels too warm, our thermostat is set to 74, my SO will often go outside and cook steaks on the BBQ. Our AC doesn't go on everyday. So far, it hasn't gone on at all this year (knock on wood). Our kitchen is on the east side of the house, so after about 4PM, we open the sliding door and usually there is a breeze coming in. But to answer the OP, yes, I would use the gas oven (not the electric one) even if the AC was on.

I don’t have central air. We have window AC’s, which are VERY expensive to run. On hot days, the temperature inside our house is MUCH hotter than it is outside. So using our big, gas stove or oven at the hottest part of the day absolutely makes the house hotter. So we do microwave, slow cooker, air fryer , or—like others—eat cold foods. And we grill a lot, too.

Yes. Sometimes I just need to use the oven. I do try to plan for cooler days when the AC isn’t running, but that doesn’t always work. I need the oven to bake cookies and bacon, summertime staples! (I’m eagerly awaiting a tomato to riled for my first BLT of the season!)

If I did t use the oven when the ac as on I wouldn’t use it from May to October. Between the heat and humidity in Kansas it’s on as soon as it starts warming up. Our allergies are bad enough that we don’t keep the windows open.
I’ve never heard anyone around here turn off their ac to use the oven. What a hassle that would be! I’ve also never noticed the ac kicking on more when I use the oven. It’s pretty well insulated. You don’t feel heat when it’s closed.
Won’t it also make the ac work harder when you turn it back on? I’ve always been told to keep your house at a consistent temp if you want to save money. Letting it get warm when you are gone and the cooling when you are home costs more, or so I’ve been told.

I have window units, not central AC. Running the downstairs AC with the oven on kind of cancels the cooling out, while doubling the price of utilities.
My AC doesn't kick on. I turn it on when we are in the livingroom.

Yes. I would even connect the two. We don’t use the oven a ton anyway, but yes I would use it. If not, we couldn’t use for at least 5 months a year.

I absolutely don't, because what's the point of cooling down the house if you are also heating it up?
So, I'm only cooking on the stove top, which doesn't broadly heat up the house, and making food in the slowcooker. Right now there is beef stew in the slowcooker.
So, do you use the oven and AC at the same time?
Beef stew?! In the summer?! Is that even legal? Yes I’ll run the oven with the ac. I won’t cook if it’s hot and there’s no ac, then it’s just sandwiches and stuff. But if the house is cool enough, I’ll cook anything. Seasonally appropriate! I won’t have lasagne or chowder or beef stew or things like that on the summer. I definitely have seasonal food preferences

I have never understood this argument. My inside temp in the summer is 68. It's not much different than my winter temp of 66. What difference does it make? And then my oven insulated. So the only hot time is when I open to put the meal in and take the meal out. Anyway, I just have never understood this argument if you have AC. Unless of course your idea of AC temp is like 78 or something. 68 in the summer!? I’m jealous! We keep it at 76 in the summer and 68 in the winter. I don’t think we could get our house down to 68 in the summer. I live where it’s hot tho so the AC would be on 24/7 trying to keep it cool.

I cook 3 meals a day. I don't use my oven every day, but I don't hesitate to use it.
I do cook differently in the summer. More grilled and smoked foods. We eat more salads and lighter fare for supper. But I still bake cookies and rolls on the regular and cook some meals in the oven. If I am busy mowing, I like an oven meal, so when I get home close to noon, I just have to make the tea and set the table and bring the meal out of the oven. I usually start mowing around 7, so I get a roast or something like that in the oven early and on low.
During fall harvest, especially silage, I always have dinner (that is the noon meal here) in the oven. I am trucking all day starting about 7:30 am, so I get my meal in the oven and I point a security camera at the oven so I can keep an eye on it from afar! LOL I jump out of the truck around 11:30 so I can run in the house and get drinks made and food on the table when the rest of the crew comes in around noon. I get the mess cleaned up and the evening meal needs packed up and take it to the shop to put in a crock pot so we can eat that at the end of the day around 6:30-7. I go home and get something baked for the morning coffee treat before we start chopping in the morning. It's a busy time! But my oven is on, and my A/C is blowing COLD!

If you have the heat/heater on, do you use the refrigerator?
IMO, this question has as much validity as the AC question.
Both the oven and refrigerator are insulated so use them both in goo conscious year round.

I try not to use the oven much during the hottest part of the summer. Our AC struggles to even keep it at 75 in here when the outside temp is 100.
If I do need to bake something, I try to do it first thing in the morning because it definitely does raise the temp in the kitchen.

I wanted to add that when I lived in TX, I wouldn’t hesitate to use the oven when the AC was on. Like someone else said, in Texas, my AC was on nearly the entire year. And I never noticed the heat from the oven, There is a HUGE difference between central air and window units.

And opening the door is miserable when it’s already hot in your kitchen. Again—not having central air is the difference. Spoken by someone who lived in TX with 100+ degree weather and central air (always used oven and AC and the same time) and someone who now lives in CA with mild summers (mostly in the 80s, no humidity) but no central AC and no AC in the kitchen at all. There is a huge difference!

I’m trying to picture my electric bill if I tried to keep my house at 68 in the St Louis summer and all I see is me curled up in the fetal position crying. We also keep it at 76. Thankfully our 2 story house has zoned heating and cooling. The upstairs is set to 80-82 during the day because we’re not up there during the day. I just use my sensors app to start it cooling to 76 before we head to bed. Then the opposite happens for the nighttime. Thankfully we also have a finished basement where I exercise, it’s generally 5-8 degrees cooler down there. Using the oven heats up our house, I do everything possible to not turn it on during the hot months. I have a lot of different ways of cooking in the summer. I’m lucky that I adore a cold house in the winter. The heat doesn’t go above 64 unless we have company and we sleep with it at 62.

I've used it when I have no AC or furnace running and the thermostat will go up. If I need to or want use my my oven I will. If it's really hot when the ac barely keeps up I wouldn't but wouldn't feel like oven food anyway.

I don’t feel the oven heats up the house.

Live in S. Florida so AC is on at least 355 days a year. So yes, the oven is used when the AC is on. I’m in Texas and so relate to this. I do try to avoid using oven in the heat of the day and generally on really hot days lean towards salads and other cooler meals but I could not really function without an oven when using AC or I’d have it off over half of the year. It is 98 outside right now. I made homemade bread in the oven first thing this morning and we had homemade pizzas for lunch. I’m now done with the oven for today.

Yes I do use the oven when I have the AC on, otherwise I'd never eat any hot / cooked food during summer. It's only the kitchen area that would get a bit warm, and I can always close the door between the kitchen and the lounge room. Mind you, these days I use my air fryer a lot more than my oven, and that doesn't heat the kitchen up at all.

We use our oven whenever we want to. I have never felt the oven heats the house. Well maybe at my first house where the kitchen was closed in with walls on four sides.

Yes, the newer ovens do not generate a lot of heat. They seem to be very well insulated.
For energy, it is much more important to be aware of the right time of day you use your oven, in fact all appliances. Afternoon into evening is not time right time! High consumption time with higher costs!

Most nights it's just my husband and I for dinner now. With 100+ degree heat, just yesterday we bought a bigger toaster oven/air fryer (I've never used an air fryer). It's big enough that most of what I would cook in the oven I'll now use the toaster oven for. It cooked a medium pizza perfectly last night.

I have never heard of this before. I cook whatever in the oven whenever. It doesn't make my house hot. Now in the winter I might leave the oven door open slightly after I turn off the oven but that never heats up the house. Just feels good to stand in front of it.

I think this is the key difference. Central AC makes the question irrelevant because you just can't compare a window unit's cooling to central AC.
We live in the south and run our central AC about 10 months out of the year. My oven doesn't affect it because it's well insulated. I think the stovetop does more to heat up the kitchen than the oven does.
