Substack accounts seems to be every where I look online lately with so many influencers migrating towards it. A couple of newsletters I have followed for several years moved over there and now I am finding more accounts to read/follow. What I like about them is that I have found some great information. I am also old school in that I prefer to read my news/information rather than watch quick videos.
Still using Instagram for inspiration for quilting, embroidery and needlepoint, as well as travel to some degree, but with the focus moved to Reels and Stories I spend less time there. Also, lately all the travel posts are beginning to look the same - same places, same photo shoots, same formula which has become boring.
Is anyone else making the shift towards using Substack more? If so, who are you following and why? Would love to see new suggestions! Currently I am spending more time reading up on the fashion and retail industry (my background is in fashion/clothing & textiles). Looking to add more current/world events and travel newsletters is anyone has suggestions.

Never heard of Substack. I know artists are opening accounts on Cara because of IG's policies. Cara doesn't allow videos, just photos.

Don't follow anyone and do not subscribe to anyone. I am kid of over giving "influencers" money and watches on social media.

The one Substack I am interested in but won't pay the price is From Berkshire to Buckingham. Its $5 a month to subscribe, I believe. It's about the POW and the BRF. She used to write a blog and I always thought her articles were so well thought out. But at one point, I thought she only wrote a monthly newsletter and I thought $5 was too much. I think mom mentioned she subscribed to her at one point? I follow the author on IG and do read her free substack articles, but I haven't looked into it again...

She is one of two that I pay for ($5/month). Her articles are very well written and thought out which speaks to her being an attorney. She has typically has 2-3 articles a month, as well as a newer weekly feature called Monday Memory. For that she posts photos of a previous event/outfits and discusses them. It fills the gap nicely while Catherine is taking time off for treatments.

I follow some writers (Anna Bones and Mike Sowdon) on Substack, as well as one called Poetic Outlaws, which is usually a poem and a photograph. I don't subscribe and pay, though.

I do think $5 is too much for the very little royal activities going on nowadays. Or maybe my interest is just falling? Either way, I no longer subscribe. I am not currently following anyone on Substack. During the Johnny Depp trial, I started following HouseInHabit, but she is too political now for me to read her stuff.

Someone I follow on insta just started a sub stack and invited us - but I was like another format? I want someone to spoon feed me the info about what this is, how I would get there (an app? She asked for our emails to sign up? Is it through email? Is there a cost? Sweet baby Jesus, I can’t handle More emails so if that’s it, I’m out).

It is basically a new blog where they write things and share with followers. Most charge $5 a month. You sign up with your email and are given a link when a new stack (article) is posted.

I guess I’m cheap and even though I enjoy this person, nope, there’s too much free content I don’t have time to watch/read. I won’t be paying.

I've never really understood what a "substack" is, although I keep hearing Michael Moore mentioning it on his Rumble podcast. Thank you to those who provided an explanation here. I'm still not really sure how it works. Someone I follow on insta just started a sub stack and invited us - but I was like another format? I want someone to spoon feed me the info about what this is, how I would get there (an app? She asked for our emails to sign up? Is it through email? Is there a cost? I can't keep up with the ones I already get at work and home.

I've never heard of it until now, so thank you, but I definitely do not want to pay $5 a month to read anything other than the papers I already subscribe to.
I would never pay to follow anyone on IG or elsewhere.
I do agree that I want to read news, not watch videos.

I've never heard of it until now, so thank you, but I definitely do not want to pay $5 a month to read anything other than the papers I already subscribe to. Every newsletter I have read offers a free option where you get at least one newsletter monthly for no charge. That is how I read nearly all of the substacks I like. On rare occasion I will subscribe for a month, catch up on everything, then cancel the subscription. No different really than how many deal with streaming services. The other thing I did was set up an inbox folder that all the newsletters are directed to. This way they don't clutter up my email and I can read them when I have some down time.

I don't subscribe to any Substacks. Those I know of charge, and I can get my fill from free sources. I'm not paying $5 for someone's "so many thoughts" on any subject.

I have so much info coming in from everywhere, it would take a really good Substack to make me want to pay for it. Occasionally I do a free subscribe but that little taste so far doesn't make me want to take the pay plunge.

Jenny Lawson "The Bloggess" $60 annual fee - focused on her art which is just as entertaining as her writing.
Julia Kent - $45 annual fee - also received a personalized, signed book, a tote bag, stickers, etc.
Each are writers I enjoy and want to support beyond the occasional book purchase.

Substack? Nope. Never heard of it- thank you for those who explained it.
I do love the Bloggess but I can read her on her site.
I have info and email overload- I don’t need or want more.

I have never heard of it. BUT, when I went to set up an account, it said my email address was already in use. I have no idea how that could happen. Then as I continued on, it still had me fill out the basic info that they would have if I truly already had an account. It must be linked to something else that I frequent.
