WE have two single car garages. One houses DH's 1968 Mustang and some tools like his air compressor, etc. The other houses stuff. We have a cement parking pad in front of the garages (which are located on an alley) so we park the daily cars there.

Our garage is a decent size. We put our two cars in there, and there is also storage shelves on one side, some shelves and a fridge on the other size, and pallet racking at the end. I was really surprised to find out on previous threads how many Peas don't use their garage for their cars. Most people on this poll do, but previous threads made it seem like hardly anyone keeps their cars in the garage. That is what I thought too, so the results are surprising.

3 car garage. The single bay is my crafting space, all built out. We do park one car in there, but the rest is dh tools and loads of bike stuff. Just curious, is your garage temperature controlled? Our garage interior is finished, but not insulated. It gets very hot in there, especially on summer afternoons since it is west facing. There are also open grated vents, so dirt and dust come in. I would have loved to have had a craft space in the garage when the boys were younger, but I was afraid my stuff would get damaged by the heat.

Attached 2-car garage on a 1955 house in a city that can't have basements. It's storage because of the lack of basement, but also because modern SUV-sized cars don't fit well in the older garage.

We can fit one car in our garage. The other half is a too big work bench, fridge, bikes, camping and fishing stuff and a goof amount of free space because stuff always piles up.

When we built it out we insulated the walls and added ventilation. Our garage faces east. When it's really hot out, it gets a little warm, so I have a fan, but it is never so warm I don't want to be out there. We left the third garage door in place, so it could be converted back, but there is an insulated wall against the garage door. The only mess in there is of my own making. 😁

We are very lucky to have a big double garage. Car (only one driver in this family) goes on one side, the other is workspace/storage.

Two car garage with two cars in it. The only other things in the garage are the trash cans and the snowblower in the winter time. We also have a large basement and a shed, so that’s where bikes and yard tools go. DH has a workshop in the basement, which opens into the garage.

For cars, then storage.
However in our previous home where we lived for almost twenty years, it was storage. We never regularly parked in it. It was a 1.5 car detached garage and our house was tiny. Storage was more important and the garage being detached took away some of the convenience of having a garage. Also my husband liked to work on cars in his younger years and at different times bought and fixed up older cars. When he had those, they were in there. But that was only a short time.
ETA living in MI I freaking LOVE now having an attached, two car garage and a house that is larger and has a basement so we don't need to store stuff in the garage other than you know, cars and usual garage items. I used to dread winter storms and having to be digging my car before 6:00 am.

DH is of the mind that garages are for cars only, so that's how it's been our whole marriage (34 years). We have always had a basement or other space to store stuff and for DH to have his hobby stuff.

We use ours for our cars. It's not large enough for much storage above and beyond that, but we do have yard tools and DH's tool box in there, also. We have a basement and attic for storage.
There are many people in our neighborhood who use their garage for storage and not cars. My sister also does the same thing.

One of my non-negotiables when buying a house was having a two car garage. It gets snowy here in the winter and I didn’t want to undig the cars or have to park outside during heavy rain and potentially have tree branches come down on the cars. I definitely try to keep the garage neat because I want to continue parking in there, although we also use it to store tools, bikes, sports equipment and garbage cans (cans could potentially go outside but we also get the occasional bear so I’d rather keep them in the garage until garbage day!)

Two car garage.. originally we would have one car in the garage and one in the driveway (until the kids started driving), then or if we had a third car it was in the street.
Now that we have ATV's they get the garage and the rest of us in the driveway. My truck won't fit so that's out if it was even possible. DS truck might fit, never tried it. Then our third little car has been sitting on the driveway not being used until this month. She has been serviced and tagged and almost ready to go for my 16 year old. DS gave it to my youngest as it was his car. Once she starts driving it regularly, it will probably be parked in the street more often than not.
I MISS having to park in my garage but yeah, until the ATVs are gone.. no one gets it.

Ours is a typical 2car--I've always parked my car in the garage, the other vehicle has always been a truck that won't fit in our garage. We moved the w/d out there many years ago, DH has a workbench, there is a 2nd refrigerator/freezer, and lots of storage.

In my neighborhood, it is necessary to use the garage for cars. We have sort of a half tandem garage where it fits two cars plus a "nook" that fits both our garbage bins, a workbench, and shelving. We also are able to fit our deep freeze, and six bikes are mounted on the wall. In addition, we have that shelving that hangs from the ceiling that covers half of the garage.
My neighborhood is very old with very narrow streets, so you're really taking a risk parking in the street.

I had to pick Oprah because for us it’s a mix of both cars and storage equally. We have a four car attached garage but only two cars are in it most of the time. We have a classic car that lives in it, my car gets parked in it, but DH has a lot of tools and work related things stored in it too. Plus an ATV that we use for plowing snow and occasional yard work, a motorcycle that is DH’s baby, and a literal ton of random junk that DH occasionally takes in for recycling. In the winter he tries to clear out a spot for his pickup truck too, but the work vehicle is too big so it has to be parked outside.
ETA: We also have an extra refrigerator and two freezers in our garage. Our lawnmower is stored inside a trailer because we take it across town to mow at our rental property every week. Speaking of the rental, that house has a 2.5 car attached garage and it is piled to the rafters with stuff. She has one vehicle that won’t fit because she has so much other crap in there.

My garage is not attached, it is a steel building fairly close to the house. It is a 4 car garage, but I have easily parked 6 in there when a hail storm threatened! Various kids cars that were at my house and I had them help me squeeze them in. So I have a lot of extra space in there to store crap that needs to go! I keep my smoker and pizza oven in there, and I just roll them out when I want to use them. There is a long workbench space that runs along the short side of the building. I have a freezer out there too. When we had a dog here, it was her house too. We installed a doggie door and she could go in and out at will (along with kitties) and we had a nice soft space in there for her to sleep when she didn't want to sleep outdoors. I'm not a house pet person, but I also want them to have a nice safe shelter. It's closed up now No more dogs here.

It's storage because of the lack of basement, but also because modern SUV-sized cars don't fit well in the older garage. We built our shed in the early aughts and we barely fit our big pickups in there now! DH has a F250 with the full crew cab and long box. He leaves his hitch on and the truck has to be pulled in almost to the wall and you have to scooch around that hitch to get past it. Of course it is parked in the first spot and I have to scooch around it to get to my rig when he is home! Damn, I have smacked my shin on that SOB too many times!

I live in a small Canadian prairie city, so that likely colours my view of a "garage purpose"! It's too freaking cold and snowy to park outside in the winter if it can at all be avoided!!! (And we don't really have great public transit options, so everyone has their own car.) We have a finished basement with a furnace/storage room that has a work bench, and a cold room that also houses a fridge and freezer. We have a garden shed that keeps my garden tools and our little push lawnmover. We have a second shed on the other end of the house that used to house an ATV but now keeps random things like the pressure washer, the bikes that no one uses since they got cars, and some old golf bags/clubs that really just need to go away. Our attic is not usable space and is accessed by a panel in the ceiling of our master closet ... I think someone has needed to go up there exactly once since we moved in 21 years ago. There is a 2.5 car heated garage attached to our house. Two vehicles park inside, as well as my beloved ebike. It has some cupboards that hold things like outside decor items, but about half of them are empty. There used to be hockey/ringette equipment lockers down one wall so my kids and dh could unpack their bags and hang everything to dry after each use, but now that no one plays minor sports any more, that wall is just empty except for some snow shovels leaning against it, and my golf clubs resting beside them. We also have a snow blower that lives in the garage, close to an outlet because it needs to be plugged in to start. We have always used the garage for parking, but there was a little span of years when we had three vehicles, so one had to park outside, and when we only had two vehicles but one was too tall to fit through the door, so had to park outside, too. Five years ago, we built a detached garage/shop/office in our back yard. It's oversized, so my dh's gigantic work trucks can fit to park inside, and there are always two vehicles parked in the shop. It also has a mezzanine level where dh has his office, and a whole wall of huge metal shelving for his assorted work and play stuff. The back wall has a full span of metal cupboards with a work bench. The remaining side wall has a skate sharpener and the big metal workbench/toolbench that it sits on. There's a little 'nook' with a small overhead door that leads to the yard that currently houses a ping pong table and a glass fronted drink cooler/fridge (from a restaurant supply place). We've always been "garage is for the cars first, and then whatever else fits and doesn't have a better home" people

When you live in a snowy climate parking vehicles in the garage has to be the priority. I hate cleaning snow and ice off my car. Clearing snow from the driveway is much easier when there are no cars on it.

Around here it's pretty common to not use the garage for cars. We have a two car garage that my EX converted into his office. He pays me rent for the space which at this point is more important. If money wasn't an issue I wouldn't mind parking in there (OR using it for storage, the attic where everything is kept is a pain to get in/out of). Someday!

We have a 2 car garage.
In the last 2 years since we've moved in, I've had stretches where I can park my car in there. I told my DH that if he filled my side full of shit, he had to go out and warm my car and scrape it for me in the winter. ;P
However, my family is coming to visit and I threatened him within an inch of his life to clean the shit out. He's making good progress, but I still probably won't park in there during the summer. It makes it easier for the kids to drag their bikes, toys, soccer nets and all that stuff out if I just park in the driveway. However my ass will be in there by first flake. LOL

We have a two car garage but it only fits one car. When we bought our house the garage came with a very nice, but big tool bench, tools, storage cabinets and some ladders. All of those things are nice to have so we park our other car either in our drive way or on the street. Our washer and dryer are also in our garage.

i didn't answer the poll. My garage houses a pop up camper and the outdoor lawn equipment and other odds and ends. The camper was ours (mine and DH) for many years, when DH passed I knew I wouldn't use it by myself so I told DS he could have it. He asked if he could store it in its current place, so here I am still parking outside and cleaning snow off my car in the winter.

I have a 2 car garage that when I was single, I parked my one car in it. As soon as DH moved in, no car parkage. It is now totally storage, with 15 Gorilla racks stuffed to the gills.
