I don’t know how I missed this thread for so long. Ha. I’m a 97% paper only card maker. I will occasionally stamp a sentiment, add enamel dots or some other low profile element. I mail all of my cards, so thickness/stiffness, lumps and bumps are a big issue with the post office. With that said, my cards do look very plain and simple. I’m in a card swap group here and it’s very noticeable how simple mine are compared to the other participants. It’s one of the reasons I’m stepping back from the exchange. It’s been great fun, but I don’t think I’ve grown enough as a card maker, so I think I’ll just make cards for shut-ins in the future. Please don't stop exchanging with the peas. You are making the cards you enjoy making. They are making the types of cards they enjoy making. Neither is the "right" or "wrong" way to make cards. It isn't a contest. As one of the participants, I LOVE getting all types of cards - each and every one brings a smile to my face - it's all HAPPY mail!!

I have "spoken" with grammadee and committed to a CARDtober challenge day themed "Playing with Pretty Paper." Already made my first project to get ahead a bit since I've had some extra time on my hands this summer.
I hope some mainly paper card makers who have posted here will join the fun!

New here to the stamping/cardmaking space. I only make cards using paper. I love my silhouette and use it to cut all kinds of stuff and I use it to write my sentiments with too.

Hey, paper-only cardmakers, what are your favorite brands or designers for two-sided pp for card making?
I see a lot of sketches from SU demos calling for two-sided paper and using a mix of the two sizes, but I rarely find a two-sided SU paper where I think the two sides truly coordinate. I recently saw some sketches using VB papers, but I don't have any. I've looked at my PF papers and I don't really see any of those where I love the two sides as coordinates, either.
So, any recommendations?

I am just using a Carta Bella pack that is lovely on both sides. I also love Pretty Pink Posh and Craft Consortium.

Lovely on both sides and the two sides look good together? Or just both sides are usable?
I know I sound rather pedantic or something, but what's frustrating me is finding the right paper to use with sketches that specifically call for using the two patterns on either side on the card as coordinating pieces.
One could use twice the paper, only one side of each, and make twice as many cards, but sometimes I want to stubbornly follow the sketch exactly....

I do some paper only, and some stamped and/or die cut embellished.

I feel like most of the papers I use coordinate so you can use back and front together. Usually it’s one busy print and one neutral b-side, which tends to be perfect for the kind of sketches we use. I’m trying to think of which brands are better - you know I mostly use Doodlebug and they are generally excellent for that, but I feel like Carta Bella and Echo Park have the same flexibility, and the AC brands I use, Paige Evans and perhaps Shimelle. I think they generally try to have papers that coordinate that way.

Yes, joblackford , I know you use mostly Doodlebug (and I know you know it's not my style). But I also know you know exactly the quality I mean. I find that some of my SU papers DO have a busier side and a more neutral side, but often they don't have any colors in common. Like, for example, a lilac and green floral on one side and a blue geometric on the other...what the what?! You and kiwikate both mentioned Carta Bella, so maybe I'll poke around their stuff a bit.

I agree with everything Jo said - AC brands, DB and EP/CB are all reliable. Simple Stories, too.

Right? There are two brands where I've sort of experimented with their patterned paper and been unimpressed overall -- Altenew and Stampin' Up. Like them for other things, but I'll be skipping the papers or at least be far more cautious.

I'm a paper only card maker. I send 99.9% of the cards I make to Cards for Soldiers. When I sit down to put them together I usually make a lot of the same design. Different papers and sentiments but the same design. Like this - I know crazy isn't it? joblackford sends to a charity also as do several others here I believe IMG_20240731_152735905 by CLAUDIA LOVELESS, on Flickr

I can go either way. I used to mostly make cards with stamping, but lately I've been doing more without stamping or mixed media. It just seems SO.MUCH.FASTER to make cards with only paper and no stamping or stenciling.
