I have noticed this saying on so many scrapbooking videos on You Tube, and it (irrationally) drives me bonkers: "Now I'm going to go and ink the edges.... now I'm going to go and stick this down... now I'm going to go and tear this paper... now I'm going to go and add some glitter..."
Where are you going to go? Ugh! Why can't you just say "Now I'm going to ink the edges." You don't have to "go and" anything!! And it's not just one scrapbooker, it's many!

“The sound of freedom” I live near the Camp Pendleton marine base. They often have artillery/mortar/etc practice. Depending on what they are using and how the atmospheric conditions are, it sometimes sounds like they are right in your backyard. The house will shake and the windows will rattle. There are also a few people on NextDoor who will ask “what is that?”, thinking it may be an earthquake or shooting or something. And there will be multiple people responding “That is the sound of freedom.” Or someone with PTSD or someone will say their child can’t sleep (they often practice until midnight), and the response is “sound of freedom.” I don’t know why that response bugs me so much. Maybe because a dozen people will respond with the same message on one post! Ha-ha, my grandson is currently stationed at Camp Pendleton. I never thought about what it would be like to close to the base. He came home this weekend and will be back over the 4th, I’ll have to tell him the neighbors don’t appreciate the noise. 😂 His battalion is headed to 29 Palms in August so maybe there will be less noise. He complains about his lack of freedom. 🫡

When ordering at a restaurant... "I'll do the fish..." Do? I'll have or I'd like...
Hacks instead of tips

"We have never done it that way." Older members saying this to younger members has caused an organization that I belong to lose many young members. The corollary is "But we've always done it that way," which is the death of progress.

"god doesn't give you anything you can't handle".. Mu snarky response to that one is, "Then he has seriously underestimated my abilities." That usually shuts people up. I do use it is what it is (iiwii) when talking to DH as just an acknowledgement that we can't change the situation and there is no use bitching about it. The rest of these might be slightly annoying, but for the moat part, they are just water off a duck's back (thanks Jinx Monsoon).

But I can't understand why anyone balks at "no problem". I think it's just as polite as "you're welcome". My dad gets on about that and I don't get it. I don't care about "my pleasure", I think it's weird and associate it only with Chik Fil A but it's not rude. I am so glad to hear you say that. I say it and I tried to break the habit but I find it didn't work.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already. I just ducked in on page 3.
But the phrase that irritates me the most is "Everything happens for a reason." Seems to me there is a whole lot of chaos and coincidence and catastophe and good luck in this world. And if it DID happen for a reason, it wasn't necessarily a good one.
My dh gets upset when someone says "It is what it is." But that phrase kinda grounds me, reminds me that we are not dealing with what we wanted or hoped or expected. And we are not living somewhere in the future. We are dealing with what is happening right now.

I mentioned this in the other thread, but the one that drives me batty is "It must be nice!" I HATE that! It's usually said in a condescending way and it pisses me off. Years ago, we used to take a yearly vacation to the beach when the kids were on spring break. I had a friend who used to say all the time, "wow, must be nice to go to the beach every year!" This same friend sent her 4 kids to a Catholic school, so clearly, they had some disposable income. They chose to spend their money on that, which meant they weren't able to take many vacation. Their choice, right? I never said anything to her, but it got under my skin. It still does. I have a friend who said to me once that it "must be nice that you have such a good relationship with your kids!" I just said, yeah it is. As a lot of you know, my life mostly sucks right now because of my divorce. My adult kids are mostly being very protective of me, and I put a real effort into doing things with them, making time for them, etc. I haven't seen this one mentioned yet, but sometimes, it bugs me when people respond to those who are going through something shitty or difficult with nothing more than "You got this!" I will see someone share something hard on say FB, and multiple people won't say anything about what they are going through, but will only write, You got this. It just seems dismissive and not acknowledging of what the person is going through, IMO.

Corporate speak gets on my nerves: wheelhouse, skill set, circle back... I was so glad to leave the lingo of the education world. “Remember your why.” I couldn’t remember $hit. Most principals know better than to use that one these days….umm….my “why” is that I’m an educated, experienced professional and this is my JOB. I also HATE: A good teacher is like a candle—it consumes itself to light the way for others. Fuck that shit! First of all…. I’m not an “it.” Second of all….NO…we don’t want to or should not have to consume ourselves for our jobs. Please. Do not EVER quote that to a teacher.

Not a saying but... it's just happened and it drives me nuts! Women calling other women 'Lovely' as a name. "Ok lovely, how would you like to pay?" "Hello lovely!" "Thanks Lovely, see you soon" That's an endearment, and it's very common in the southwest, along with darlin' and my lovely. I remember moving from the south to the southwest in the 90s and being completely charmed by the ladies in the work cafeteria saying it to everyone. In the south they used to say dear. DH and I play "filler phrase bingo" with my SIL's telephone conversations. Hers include: "if you get what I mean" "if that makes any sense" "bless her/his cottons" "isn't it? Yes!" (to the dog, followed by a long description of what she thinks the dog is thinking)

I had a lot of family in Devon and they used to say "My loverrr" Yes, I get it's an endearment but when people on Vinted are writing me messages calling me Lovely, when young girls in shops say "Can I help you, lovely?" when complete strangers on Facebook say "Hi Lovely..." it's just annoying in my book.

It IS calming.

The ones that annoy me are:
“It is what it is”. (Well of course, what else would it be besides what it is - ugh)
“At the end of the day”. (So overused)
“Not my circus, not my monkeys” (I know you don’t have a circus or monkeys)

Corporate speak gets on my nerves: wheelhouse, skill set, circle back... Yes!! Two that really bother me are “wheelhouse” & “bandwidth” “It’s just not in my wheelhouse to do that” “I don’t have the bandwidth to do that, I’m too tired” I have a friend that says "You know what I mean" after every sentence. Drives me nuts. That as well as “You know what I’m saying? “ after every sentence. I want to say YES, I’m not an idiot, I KNOW what you are saying.

I think my biggest peeve is when adults start picking up phrases that their kids are using. The newest I'm hearing is "hits". That "hits" different, that "hits" right, etc. I'm irrationally irritated by this, mostly because I have a coworker who hears a phrase and wears it the eff out the first day.

Corporate speak. All of it. I'm tired of it. "I'll circle back around, We have a short runway to get this done, I don't have the bandwidth". Any of the religious phrases that people think will make you feel better. They don't and they piss me off. "When God closes a door, he opens a window". Or as someone said "It was God's plan". "Journeys" of all kinds: Weight loss, motherhood, grief, etc I sound like a cranky old woman . Some of the phrases mentioned I use: It is what it is (typically something work related, hate it but can't change it). Not my circus, not my monkeys (again work related). Hmmmmm I'm sensing a theme here, HA! I am over corporate life at this point. Only 14 years to go until I retire if I survive the layoffs that are coming.

Lately I’m hearing the word colorway quite often, as in “This dress is an available in several colorways?” Ugh and WTF? 🙄 What's wrong with that? That's a very normal and long time saying in my world.

I thought of a couple more -
1. UNBOXING. Why can't you just open a box? Why does it have to be extra fancy unboxing for your Instagram video? 2. CURATED. Same idea, you chose stuff, you made a collection, you didn't curate anything unless you work in a museum.
