Any peas have this done? How many sessions? Do you like the outcome? Any issues during/after?
So my body hair on my legs and underarms is super thick. And lately seems to be getting thicker and harder.
Every time I shave my underarms, I get rashes because I have to do a bazillion passes to get the hairs that grow in different directions. I have very sensitive skin and ton of allergies. It sucks.
So I was thinking about Lazer hair removal.
Would love any pea stories.

I had my underarms lasered about 6-7 years ago. I bought a $100 Groupon. Like you, shaving left me with bumpy, itchy, irritated skin that darkened from the repeated rashes and ingrowns. Best $100 I ever spent. I've never gone back for any maintenance. I have may 20 hairs under each arm that still grow. It's not worth the cost to get them done. Easy to shave since the hair is much thinner and softer after laser treatment.
DS girlfriend is considering, but the pricing seems to be really high now. Most places seem to have plans where you have to pay a big upfront cost and return whenever you need maintenance. I have suggested she get a home laser and do it herself. That way she can do any body part she wants on her own schedule.
ETA: it was six sessions. Two weeks between each session.

I think once school starts up I am going to call around and talk with places. How did you choose yours?

I don’t know if it applies to you but blonde hair is harder to treat than dark and will require more sessions probably.

What about the in home devices? I see them on social media. Do they work? They aren't cheap!

I went for lasering before the pandemic with a Groupon. From having Cushing's disease I had some weird hair growth on my shoulder that I had removed, and kind of as an afterthought, I had my underarms done. I am still shocked that my underarm hair is almost completely gone (we're talking maybe 3 hairs left) after only one treatment. I'm considering going back in the winter to get my arms done.

I did my legs and it’s the best thing I have ever done. Expensive but worthwhile. The underarm area will be cheaper, of course.

I had 6 sessions - underarms and upper lip. Well worth it and it has been years with very minimal regrowth.

I have had a lot of laser hair removal! I had my entire legs, bikini line, underarms, and some low neckline hair done about 15 years ago. I still have to shave some but it’s way way better. I also would get bumpy rashes after shaving and I needed to shave daily. Now, I shave 1x per week probably and without shaving cream!! I paid a lot for mine. Seems like I did about 6-8 treatments in some problem areas. Some areas are painful than others but the result was worth it — just don’t expect all hair completely eradicated. They say it works best on fair / light skin and dark hair. The laser needs a contrast to pickup.
After lots of hormone changes, I’m getting stray chin hairs and some on my neck. I have laser hair removal done about every 6 weeks in the winter. It definitely helps but it’s like whack a mole. The stray hairs keep coming back in different areas.
When you are having laser done, you need to avoid the sun for 2 weeks before , as well as antibiotics and steroids.

I’m thinking about seeing if my DD would like it for underarms. She’s only 12 but damn would it have been nice to not shave to have for the last 35 years! Need to see the cost tho.
A friend of mine did it probably 15-20 years ago and she never regrets it.

I did it probably 20 years ago. I did armpits and bikini line. I'm not super hairy nor is my hair super dark, but my vision absolutely sucks and made shaving a hassle. Bikini line is still clear and I have 3 hairs in one armpit and 7 in the other. Well worth it for me. I think I had 3 maybe 4 sessions.

First of all, do not go to strip mall places that do it. You need to find a reputable dermatologist office that has the more powerful lasers. I did my face (I have PCOS) and it cost $500 each for 4 sessions and then $150 a session for lifetime maintenance. It was so worth the money. Each session was spread out for at least 8 weeks apart (they shouldn't be any closer because of the cycle of the hair follicle). Later I went to one of these "this is all we do" places and paid quite a bit to do my arms. The laser was so weak! It did absolutely nothing.
Sadly the derm office closed because the doctor passed away so I had to use an electrologist. She is really good but it takes a lot more time.
As for the results, it worked really well on my face but I am very, very light skinned. Laser works better if you are very pale and have dark hair.

What about the in home devices? I see them on social media. Do they work? They aren't cheap! I have the Braun laser hair remover and I love it! I've always had facial hair and had to shave my legs daily. Also, my armpits never looked clean. A "shadow" was always there and made me self conscious about wearing anything sleeveless. I followed the directions which are to shave then use the device. Do this for six weeks and then once a month for maintenance. It doesn't work on white hair and redheads are advised not to use it . Once you get the hang of it, it doesn't take long. I very rarely have leg hair and if I do it is sparse and very soft. My armpits no longer have any shadow and my dark facial hair is almost completely gone. I do have some coarse white hair on my chin that I have to pluck out but that is much better than having to pluck my whole face.

You could wait until you turn 65 or so when your under arm and leg hair stops growing.
I don’t know if that is the case for all women, but my mom commented that her under arm and leg hair quit growing as she got older. We used to joke that the hair didn’t quit, it just moved to random spots on her chin. She used to bring me tweezers and have me look for any stray hair on her face. Then the next day, I would find one that was almost an inch long and I swear it wasn’t there the day before. They snuck up during the night.
And now that I am old, I have no leg or under arm hair, but I am getting those inch long hairs popping up on my chin like Mom had! The first time I saw one while putting on eye makeup in the magnifying mirror, I thought it was a cat hair on me. Nope. It was an old lady chin hair.

Sorry, picotjo. Maybe it will occur later in your family. Check with older relatives. I am blond, or I should say I was blond, now it is white, and have always had sparse blond hair on my arms and legs. Maybe that is why mine went away. I turned 70 last month and I am hoping the chin hair crap will be exiting soon too. I am still getting sporadic stiff white chin hairs and the occasional long dark chin hairs.

I did 8 full body sessions about 7 years ago. Each session was $450. The only parts of my body that weren’t lasered were my upper arms and upper back (the only parts of my body with light/fine hair). I'm SUPER hairy, always have been. Im light skinned with dark hair and it worked great. They recommended 10 sessions, but I got busy and never went back after the 8 sessions. I have very little regrowth on most of my body. Unfortunately, the facial hair continues to be a problem. It’s far better and more manageable. I should probably go back, but a lot of my new growth is white hair, so the laser won’t get it anyway.
