I thought this was an interesting and earnest video from him about changing direction a bit. I’m not a card maker but I relate with feeling a bit drained after getting involved with a hobby in a professional capacity (not at all commensurate with his level). I’m glad he’s able to change direction a bit in how he creates content and continue in the creative space. I know he isn’t everyone’s favorite but I still appreciate him being in the creative space from a diversity perspective. I don’t mean just as a male; I think the intersection of asmr and crafting in his content brings more eyes to the hobby and hopefully creates more crafters/makers. I feel like I see these kind of videos fairly regularly across YT, in all different types of content. Not only is it a lot to turn your passion into a career, but it's A LOT to make You Tube content on a consistent basis.

I finally watched his video. I've been following him for over a year and appreciate his short videos but his style is not my style. I prefer Call Me Crafty Al or Jess Crafts because I don't have to buy all the new stuff to make their cards, plus I can bust out a bunch of cards from their templates.
Anyway, it was interesting to hear his "origin story" how he's only been doing this for a couple of years and amassed thousands of followers. It sounds like he's just burnt out like most content creators have a meteoric rise, I would be too if card making or scrapbooking was my full time job. Just look at how many creators have quit altogether over the years after they try and make this a career. There are lots of exceptions to this but for the most part it just seems that people who get popular fast blaze out as fast. Glad to hear he's going to try something different on youtube, although I probably won't follow him because I'm not a fan of vlog style content, I just want to see process videos I guess.

Thanks for the links leeny, I'll go check it out. Every time I think about quitting my career and doing something I really love instead, like making cards and scrapbooking, I realize I just don't have what it takes. I'd probably start to hate paper crafting. YouTube is hard, so much work, and I just don't have the consistency in me. It's a lot, and I don't want to start disliking my hobby. Not that I have the talent or skill, though, lol.

I'd probably start to hate paper crafting. I've done several albums, mostly wedding but a couple baby ones too on consignment. I thought the first one was fun, the second less so...and by the 9th I quit doing it. I never had a business, it was word of mouth and some craft fairs, and not for a full time job. But I still ended up really disliking crafting on demand and having a deadline, etc.

I watched his video today and will try to catch up with the HA one later. All I can say is that I'm not surprised. From what I understand short-form videos take a HUGE amount of time and effort to edit well, and then you get to do it all over again the next day or week, forever and ever. It seems like an endless hamster wheel with very little payback for the effort. And that kind of pressure isn't very compatible with creativity and play.
The pressure of having a million eyes on your work while you're still learning a new craft is crazy.

What can I show people that I haven't already shown them 50 times? How do I make tomorrow's video worth watching? What can I do to grab people's attention yet again?

I have such respect for creatives - I get so much from their content and look forward to watching every YouTube video that they are able to load. I’ve gone years where I just haven’t had the mental capacity to do anything creative, so their consistency and resiliency is something I really admire

He's not a name I'm familiar with. I do like his short videos of making cards, but with the sound off. I don't love or hate ASMR, but I prefer no noise.
I'm glad he's doing something different that works better for him. I'm personally not interested in being part of an online community like he described. I like to skip from one interest to another, focusing on ideas to try or just subjects I like to see or read about.

I thought I was the only one. I either mute or scroll on by.
