Sitting outside tonight on back deck and mosquitos are swarming, not too many. It's a new home for us, so no supplies. What are some of your suggestions to ward off bugs?

Try not to have standing water nearby such as watering cans and ponds. We stay off the grass in the evening so as to not raise the mosquitoes from the lawn. We have also used Dyna trap bug catchers.

Our lawn service sprays 4 times each summer. Mosquitoes leave big welts on me!

I am a mosquito magnet so they will always find me. We have a mosquito service quarterly, but it really doesn't last long. I do live near a bayou though so that probably has something to do with it.
I HATE the idea of dousing myself in Deet. Recently I read on my TCI message board that Johnson's Creamy Oil Baby Body Lotion works to keep them away. I was very skeptical, but I haven't been bitten since I started using it!

Avon Skin So Soft is another option.

I’ve never had any luck with Skin So Soft. We’ve had good luck with a Thermocell repellent though.

Which one did you have luck with? We're leaving on vacation Sunday and i've been worrying about mosquitos!

Do not put out one of those zapper things near your house .. it will draw the mosquitos closer. If you have huge property put one as far away from your house as possible..

We have one by the front door and tis year so far we have only had 1 inside. I am not met with tem when I go out. We have a second down at the end of our front porch. The Spartan tubes an in a tree and the mosquitos go there mostly.

Thanks all. We don't have a big property and no ponds or standing water. What about citronella candles or something else to burn?

Plant lavender in pots (or inground) around your seating area.

I live a stones throw from a reservoir so I can get rid of any standing water on my property but it's not my problem. I have someone spray for ticks/mosquitos during the season. I also bought this little screen house thing that accommodates 2 chairs a little table. Since it's only me that sits out there (DS won't sit out there with me), there is plenty of room for me and the pups HA! And when the season is over I can fold it up and store it away for the winter. I'm allergic to Deet so I can't use anything with Deet. I have thought about the thermocell things.
