My DD is in Munich and I am a member of a study abroad FB group. Today, one of the moms posted this: Update to parents with children currently studying abroad. My daughter told me that she lost data and phone capability with her Verizon international plan. After 5 hours on the phone with several people, we come to find out that Verizon has an international outage. My daughter is in Cyprus and Verizon said that it is all over Europe and Dubai, so a large area. It will be resolved in 24 hours. It was just a very stressful few hours before we knew that it wasn't just a her problem, but a bigger problem. I wanted to save others some stress. It's now almost 9pm ET, and there are 2 threads in Reddit with people reporting the outage, which is not just Europe, but South America too! In case the outage isn’t fixed by tmrw, should I advise my DD to buy an eSIM? Someone on reddit said it won't work... but it seems others do. I'm so confused. This one seems recommended: bytesim.com/products/europe-esim-lite and there is www.airalo.com/ too, or should she just use wifi when she can? It seems people who purchased SIM or eSIM cards while abroad are able to use data. She’s in Munich and heading to Nueremburg tmrw with her group, and the class itinerary tells them to return to Munich when they are ready by looking up train tables…

DS uses an e-sim when he's overseas - mainly for when he's away from wifi

My DS used an eSIM when he visited us last year and it worked out well. I think he used airolo, but not sure. He bought it here and used it all over Europe - at least 5 different countries. I also used one on my last trip back to Australia this year and also had no problems. I won't give the brand name, as i was Australia specific, so not a lot of use unless you're there.
