I'm so bummed because I wanted to love it. I always send my pictures to Mpix, but I wanted the convenience of printing at home and the ability to play with different sizes. So, DH bought me one for Christmas a year ago, and I couldn't wait to try it. I started with a photo I had already from Mpix, so I could compare the quality. The colors had a pink/cool undertone (very subtle) and the image wasn't as crisp and sharp. Ugh. I was so disappointed.
I've experimented with different photo papers and apps; I recalibrated it; I bought new ink. Nothing helped. The images aren't terrible, but they aren't as amazing as everyone else's seem to be.
Has anyone else had the same experience?

I love my PM400 and think it has great quality. I did run into an issue in May but after some back and forth with customer service, they sent me a brand new machine to replace my 6 month old machine that was having issues. No problems with the quality of prints with the new machine.
Are you using the correct Epson ink? What papers are you using? It sounds like the heads need cleaned on your ink. I use only Epson ink and only Epson Premium Glossy paper.
Edited to add: its the Ultra Premium paper that I use and get great results with.

I have tried a variety of photo papers, including Epson. I have also cleaned the heads several times. Maybe I got a crappy machine?

For me there is a big difference between the Epson premium glossy photo paper and the Epson Ultra Premium Glossy photo paper. The Ultra gives a much better image imo.

Oh, I'm sorry you haven't had a good time with your Epson PM. I absolutely love mine but as Citygirl noted, the Ultra Premium Glossy photo paper prints the best photos.
Maybe you're right, possibly you got a lemon? I'd contact CS.

I use ultra premium or Ilford paper and haven't had any quality issues so far.

I have a PM400 in my amazon cart (2 years now. It's getting depressed). I like the photos that my regular Canon produces and it's cheaper ink. But I get the feeling that the PM would somehow be more convenient and encourage me to print more often! Now that we've moved, my Canon won't connect to our network and we can't print *anything*, so the PM400 is knocking around my brain again. Threads like this keep me guessing

I did not even realize that there was better photo paper than what I’ve been using. Epson Premium glossy, just went to check. When this runs out, I will get the Ultra. Although I am very happy with my prints so far. I do not have a Cricut or anything like it. I love to use my PM 400 for all my scrapbook needs. It really works out good for me.

Yes, I did have one issue with my printer, but I've owned one for over 5 years and no problems, and Epson did replace my 6 month old one when it all the sudden quit working. IMHO Epson hands down is the way to go. Etc: Ive actually own it for more than 5 years. I had my first machine for 7 years and bought a new one when we moved because the older one was on its last leg. So I bought a second one last July. Besides the one issue I had in May, I have had no troubles whatsoever that weren't user induced (ha!).

Thanks all of the responses. I do use the Epson ultra premium glossy paper. I played with settings a little more this weekend and changed the paper settings, which helped with the sharpness.
Weird thing about the color - I printed a few copies of a picture I had from Mpix. The sharpness was good, but once again the color was off on some things. My dd was wearing a red dress and that was exactly the same. However, the leaves of the trees were a brownish green instead of a normal tree green. Also, the pavers they were standing on had a slightly pink tint versus being a light tan. I was annoyed but set the print aside on my desk because I had stuff to do. I looked at it the next day, and everything was the same. I looked at it again 2 days later and the trees were now tree green and almost matched the Mpix photo. The pavers still had a pink tint but were better.
Super weird.

i agree with the others — i love my epson pm400! i use the ultra glossy paper (which is a bit pricey) and i’m very pleased with the results. i rarely send photos out for processing these days.
i have a selphy but much prefer the quality of the pm-400.

Sounds like an editing issue. Mpix does color correction if you click that box. It will depend on the app that you are sending to print from

What app are you printing from? Make sure you change the paper type in the drop down to match the paper you are using AND on the machine itself. I only use Premium or Ultra Premium paper and my prints are excellent.

I’m sorry you’re having issues. If you continue to have them, I would definitely contact them.
Even with the few issues I’ve had, I will buy another when needed. It has been a fantastic addition to my daily scrapping routine.

I print my photos on my Epson Eco tank. However, I like to attend 3 day crops and always run into the issue of needing to reprint a photo due to size issues. I also like to type journaling when I have a lot to say. I love that I can type my journaling and print right there. So, DH got me an EpsonPM-400 for Christmas. It was a very expensive purchase for the little I use it, but it's perfect for a crop. I need to set it up at home and use it for photos just to get some use out of it.

I absolutely love mine and will buy another when it goes. I echo a lot of posts and use the Ultra Premium Glossy paper from Epson. The images are fantastic! It has never failed me. I’m sorry you are having issues. Hopefully, Epson can help.

Threads like this keep me guessing Do you have a 2.4 Ghz band for internet? Some products will only connect on that frequency.
