Sometimes you can do something so simple for someone, and it really is just so nice. I *loathe* the fuzz of a peach. I won't even touch peaches with my bare hands. I tend to buy them at a farmer's market, where the person at the stand often dumps the carton or bushel's worth into a mesh bag I provide. Then I bring them home, and unless I'm going to bake with them (in which case I blanch them so the skin just falls off with a little help from a fork) I just put them in a bowl, and I never eat any. Even though I do love peaches I tend to only eat them in yogurt or baked goods, or canned. So today DH said he was making tea, and asked if I wanted any. I declined, but mentioned I was a bit hungry so when he was done, I'd make myself a little snack. A few minutes later he comes in with his tea and a little custard cup that has a peach, pealed and quartered for me as a surprise. And it made me so happy because I hadn't had a fresh peach yet all year. So, what small, simple, nice things have you experienced lately? (Either as the recipient or the giver of the nice simple thing.)

Almost every morning while I am still in bed, my husband brings me a cup of coffee in an acceptable mug. He knows which ones are my faves.

Tomorrow would have been my husband’s 77th birthday. On Friday afternoon I stopped at Dunkin Donuts and ordered 2 dozen butternut donuts that I’ll pick up at 5:00 tomorrow morning. My husband went to Dunkin almost every day and only ever ate butternut donuts. 😊

One of ourneighbors pushes everyone’s garbage can back to the garage after the trash truck makes its weekly, early morning collection. There are about 60 condos. He says he enjoys doing it and gets his exercise while doing so.

While out walking this morning I saw the swan pair that live on the river close to us with their 6 cygnets. I haven't spotted them for a few weeks and the cygnets are growing so fast!

I just went to the movies with my sister and BIL .I asked him to stop and look at my outdoor faucet that I couldn't get tight enough and he was able to fix it. He also noticed that my sail shade that he put up earlier this summer was hanging really low so he fixed that too.
I rent from my other sister and that BIL really doesn't like to help much even though it's their duplex so it's nice that my other BIL looks out for me.

One of ourneighbors pushes everyone’s garbage can back to the garage after the trash truck makes its weekly, early morning collection. There are about 60 condos. He says he enjoys doing it and gets his exercise while doing so. My next door neighbor pushes all of our trash cans up to our homes also. He is the neighbor that a few people warned me about. They said he was grumpy and mean. One woman warned me to keep my dog off his lawn. Apparently he came outside and yelled at her when she was walking her dog and allowed it to go into his yard. We don’t have sidewalks here so you walk your dog in the street. I think allowing your dog on someone else’s lawn is very rude and I don’t blame him for getting upset. I would never allow my dog to do that. My interactions with this man have all been very pleasant. He always waves and says hello when I am outside. And when I was starting to fill my cart with wood chips from the big pile in the driveway to begin distributing them to all the planter beds, he immediately came over to help me. There is a gate for access to my yard from his, put in because he was very good friends with the couple that owned my house before me and they popped back and forth all the time. I mentioned that I was going to be putting in a big vegetable garden and he wasn’t happy about it. I told him I was going to block the view of the raised containers from the street so as not to make my front yard look trashy, but since he has that gate access to my yard, he was welcome to pop over any time to pick what he wanted. He originally said no, but the next time I saw him he said that he had been thinking about my offer and got excited about having access to fresh vegetables and herbs. I am so glad I didn’t believe the other neighbor’s negative opinion about him. He has been delightful to me.

I work with k-3 graders who are struggling readers. I have a second grader who I usually have twice a day. After each small group, she always hangs back a second to tell me thank you having us. She gives me handmade craft items with the sweetest handmade cards. Every few days she will tell me I am the funniest teacher and relay which action or joke made her day. I swear this kid is an angel on earth. Every year I secretly hope her scores don't go too high and she gets pulled from my groups. Next year she will age out though.
ETA: My new(er) next door neighbor always weed whacks the baby oak trees that grow in the thousands between our two yards. Our house is build on the side of a mountain and the elevation drop from her yard to mine is impressive. Just that probably 10-15 feet extra on that side of the yard is a full story drop and getting over there takes a bit of a hike to get down the boulders. I so appreciate it and we do hers when we can get to it first.

My mom is 93, and on oxygen. We do not like her going down steps by herself. She insisted on getting a paper copy of the daily newspaper, but they throw it everywhere but on her front porch. There is a woman that lives down the street that has deformed feet, but walks every day. She stops at my mom's, gets her newspaper and puts it in her mailbox, which is right outside her front door. <3

This is really isn’t that little to me but it just happened. We were cleaning out our storage unit as we recently moved and today is the last day to empty it. We were down to some final things left. My husband saw another couple working on their unit and asked if they’d like any boxes as we had a bunch that were really good. They did want them and while they were making trips in our unit to get them, the husband asked if we needed help with a really big (huge) desk that was about the only thing left. My husband said actually we do but it’s not going to fit into our van and I have to go home and get my truck. If you happen to still be here when we come back it would be great if you can help get it in. The husband says how about if we just put in it our trailer and drive it to your house?! And they did just that! It was so nice - we really didn’t know how we were going to get it back as it is too heavy for me to lift high enough into a truck (it is REALLY big). It was just so kind. He and his wife were really nice people and we enjoyed talking with them. While I was thanking the wife she mentioned they have just been the recipients of help from others over the years and she knows how nice it is. They spent a good deal of time helping move it and tie it down and bring it to our house. Just so kind.

This is something I do for my dad. I leave him the last bite of something or if I make a smoothie I give him some of it first. I start his coffee in the morning or whatever. I do this because he is 82.5 years old and he bought a luxury car for me to drive a year ago. I mean that’s a lot but still.

The neighbor behind us always watches over our house when we go on vacation. Picks up the newspaper and the mail. He's a former policeman so we feel very safe! He's a sweetheart and I make him pralines throughout the year to thank him for his kindness.

My various neighbors were and still are so supportive of me when my dh was dying. The next door neighbor still takes my large trash bin to the curb every Sunday evening and then on Monday, after the trash has been collected, he takes the bin back to the side of my house. I always thank him and he once told me where he grew up (I think Pakistan?) the widows were always looked after. I could do this chore but I was once told to allow people to help. It makes the blessing theirs as well as yours.

We're eating at a local restaurant we celebrated with dad on his last earthly birthday. This restaurant is known for their fried chicken dinners. It has become our July 1st tradition.

My DD was recently at a week long camp and when she came home she said that every day the food was so good and that this one little lunch lady made most of the meals herself from scratch. I asked DD if she thanked her and DD said of course she did, because she always does at school too. On the last day of camp, the lunch lady came out to tell DD she was her favorite camper, gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek!

I was recently at a neighborhood get together and found out that for years ds had been bringing up trash cans for the elderly people in our neighborhood and that when he left for college he talked another kid in our neighborhood into doing it. One person even told me that when she bought the house that ds had been doing this for, he came over, introduced himself and let her know he would be bringing her trash cans up.

KelleeM and smcast, I'll think of both Dick for KelleeM and your dad, smcast. Please share stories about Dick, because he was a great husband and your true love. smcast, I miss you over at the dinner table. I've had so many kind things happen to me and I like to be kind to others. My neighbors are fantastic. They watch over our house and vice versa. They're getting older and more frail, but he used to do stuff for us and never let us help or pay him for the materials. We share our lives and they're a huge part of the reason that we've never moved. Dh fills my coffee brewer w/water and makes my daily flavored water drink each day. He wants to save me having to wait for coffee and having to lift anything. I enjoy RAKing people at Starbucks, but had to stop, because the last time I did a RAK, the person behind me was a guy, probably in his 40's who was very confused and seemed to think that I was either crazy or trying to pick him up. He didn't thank me, because he was too busy running out the door looking creeped. Next time I'll wait for the drive thru to RAK someone.

I have been known to help out at the checkout when the person in front of me is scratching around their purse trying to find that last bit of change they need to finish paying. They are usually so surprised when I offer those last few cents it is as though I am paying their total bill.
leaves them quite happy with a smile on their face.

I just had surgery last Friday, and part of my recovery includes no bending over. On the first night after surgery, I went in to the bathroom to get ready for bed and found my face washcloths moved from under my sink to the sink top. I hadn't even thought about it nor asked; he just did it. I thought that was incredibly thoughtful.

I love all of these!
Every week when we get a new gallon of milk my dh pours some into a reusable bottle so I don't have to ask for help lifting the gallon. I've never asked him to do this, he just does. He knows I miss being independent a lot now that my disease is progressing.
My oldest dd leaves little notes for me to see on our white board calendar that's on the fridge. They always make me smile.
