I just got back from vacation and I can't wait to start scrapping the photos. I ordered 450 photos yesterday!
Sometimes I make photobooks for my sister and I. I usually use Shutterfly but I'm never happy with the website. It doesn't give you many options for photo layouts and I can never find the arrangement of photos I want. The last time I made a book there the photos weren't very bright, either. I have also had the site crash on me a lot. It has crashed 4 times in the past few days while I was working on stuff.
Do you have a recommendation for another photobook company? I'd love to start working on the books while I wait for my photos to arrive.

For Shutterfly they have a custom/advance option that lets you basically digi scrap but only with their embellies. You can place as many photos/text boxes as you want. But since you didn't like the final product that doesn't help much.
Look into Artifacts Uprising(?), Blurb and PersnicketyPrints for photo book options. I've only used Shutterfly so I don't have any experience with the others.
I really like using the Project life app to make pages. Yes you are limited to the grid options but I find the limits help with creativity and to just get it done. It obviously depends on the style you are going for if it would be a good option for you.

I've used Mpix in the past and I've really liked the quality.

I use blurb. The quality might not be the best - not sure how it compares to Shutterfly - but the thing I like is that you download their free BookWright software and work offline. You only connect to their site when you’re done and ready to upload. Everything is totally customizable if you don’t like their layouts. Quite easy to use and you can use digiscrap elements as “photos” to some extent. I think they have an option to magic enhance the photos but I usually brighten them up before starting the book because they do often print duller than they look on my screen.

I also like Mpix.
I found Artifact Uprising overpriced, and Mpix quality just as good.
Persnickety Prints is having a photobook sale during July. I've only purchased their small, softcover books in the past.
Canva can be used to make page layouts or use other purchased templates, then upload the pages to a printer.
