I’d really appreciate advice on a purchase that I am considering. I just bought a Spellbinders Platinum Scout as I have been looking for something small to take to crops. The fact that it folds up really got me thinking. My Big Shot just has nowhere to live in my scrap space. It’s just big and heavy. The carrying handle is broken, too. I’m a big user of my Silhouettes Cameo but there is something to say about the intricacies with manual dies. The Scout is making me think about buying the Platinum 6 since I have a lot of dies (mostly Pink Fresh) that would need a larger machine. Both could be stored easily. It seems to get great reviews. I’d love feedback from the Peas on this. Any user experiences or insight would be helpful. Thanks so much!

I LOVE my P6! I bought it based on Jennifer McGuire's recommendation. My craft room is also my home office and guest room. Things that can be moved easily and stored when not in use are essential for me. The P6 absolutely fits the bill perfectly. I love the universal plate system with the sandwich instructions printed right on the bases. It cuts and embosses well, too!

Thanks so much for your insight!

I upgraded to the platinum 6 more than a year ago. There is not a thing I dislike about it. I do a lot of die cutting - and also use the glimmer and the betterpress with it. I use it at least several times a week. It is a workhorse! I highly recommend.

I have the P6 along with the universal plate system except mine is the larger platform (8 1/2x11) and I love it. I upgraded from an original Cuttlebug that just wasn’t meeting my needs any longer.

I'm on my second P6. I bought my first one in 2017. Back in September when I was die cutting for Crop & Create, it stopped making clean cuts. I tried new plates, shimming, different thicknesses of cardstock - nothing worked. It was a no brainer for me to stick with Spellbinders and purchase a replacement. My favorite thing is that it folds up for easy storage.
My only issue with he new one was the handle kept loosening. I'm a pretty strong gal and I cranked it down (hubby, too) but it kept loosening. That got old fast. I contacted them and they sent me another handle and it did the same thing. A small dot of Loc-tite on the screw fixed that. (I think the problem was the thread tolerance on the machine, not the screw/handle.)
I will happily buy another in six years if I need to.

I loved my P6! Eventually my tendinitis got bad enough I struggled with it and gave it to my stepmom to use. Recently I’ve been regretting that and considering getting another. If I do, it will be another P6 without a doubt.

I love my platinum 6. While I have other die cut machines, the platinum 6 is my main go to machine. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the cutting plates warp horribly especially with large cover plate dies.

I was debating back and forth between the platinum 6 and the big shot... I took pea advice and went for the plat 6... I absolutely love it!!
The best thing is the ability to fold it up and put in a desk drawer.. that would be a no go with the big shot.. it works great.... I cut paper and felt..
I want to get the lilac scout.. but I havent pulled the trigger yet...

I got a Platinum 6 and immediately got rid of my Big Shot. I love it so much, and the universal plate system is great.

As an aside, no matter what tool you choose make sure you have somewhere to put it that's as easily accessible as possible. Ideally for a die cutting machine, that means a stable, dedicated desk space where it can both live and be used from. While portability and easy storage are great features for those who don't have a dedicated hobby space or have to be able to travel with their gear, being able to have a permanent installation will boost your productivity and desire to actually use said gear far more than one would think.
The more obstacles you remove ahead of doing the thing you actually want to do, the more you'll get done.

Another pea here weighing in on my love for the Platinum 6! I have a Silhouette Cameo, but wanted something smaller (and non-electronic) that I could use for embossing as well as more intricate dies (like dies with embossed portions). I love it!! I have the universal plate system too and it's great; mine also came with a bonus of the "magic mat" which I haven't used as much. But I do love using the P6!! I agree with what Embri said about keeping it accessible in a dedicated space. That was one of the things that swayed me to buy another cutting machine in the first place because I could keep it right on the "L" portion of my scrapping table. My Cameo is also in a dedicated space on a shelf above my computer desk, and keeping both of my cutting machines accessible has been a big factor in me getting so much use out of both of them!

When Spellbinders announced the Scout, I preordered a Scout and matching P6. The Platinum cuts great (still haven't tried the Scout) but when I was taking the PinkFresh Foil/BetterPress class, I was using a few other BP plates and dies I had purchased from PF and I could not get the P6 to accept one of the dies at all. It was just too thick to go through. Not certain if the die is defective or my Platinum is too tight. The die cut perfectly in my Gemini though. I bought the machine to specifically work with all my PF BetterPress plates though, so I'm a little frustrated. I need to try the rest of them with the Platinum to see if it's a one off or if they are all a problem.
