Have dug out my id and polling card, will probably vote around lunchtime. The BBC live feed mentioned voting anonymously and I hadn't seen that before so I checked it out. Good to know they have put something in place for such situations. From link Your name and address will be on the electoral register if you register to vote. If you think your name and address being on the electoral register could affect your safety, or the safety of someone in your household, you can register to vote anonymously. This means you will still be able to vote, but your name and address will not be on the electoral register. Your electoral registration office will not disclose your details to anyone, unless they are legally required to. Anonymous registration only lasts for one year, so you must reapply each year. Your electoral registration office will contact you when it is time for you to reapply. www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voting-and-elections/who-can-vote/register-vote/register-vote-anonymously

Make good choices! US citizens will need sane countries to immigrate to if it all goes to hell here in November.

The UK has some unusual polling stations, mine is just the local village hall but the home of the lady in the link has been a polling station for fifty years and she votes by post! Can I just say she does not look 80. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c16j0jg8707o

Here we go Brits!
My postal vote went in a couple of weeks ago and I shall be watching as much of the count on tv as I can keep my eyes open for.

I was awake for the Portillo moment so my plan for tonight is catch the exit poll prediction from John Curtice at a min past ten and try to get some sleep before some of the interesting results are announced. Although, is it Sunderland and Newcastle that race each other, literally, to get the first result of the night? By like midnight?

My own constituency won't be announced until after 9 tomorrow.

US citizens will need sane countries to immigrate to if it all goes to hell here in November. 🤣 I would seriously immigrate to the UK in a hot minute, but in my research, it is virtually impossible without close familial ties. Actually this is true for most all of Europe unless you have $$$$ to contribute to their economy.

There's been nothing on the news about him as far as I've seen. Maybe he decided a postal vote was the way to go this time!

I live in Canada. I could get into Germany as there are family ties. Canada might have a sooner than planned Federal Election.

Ireland and Spain are actually leading the pack. We may go "homeless" for a while as we're establishing residency in one country, spending six months here and six months there as that's how long tourist visas usually last. DH is able to work as a digital nomad, and by the time we're able to do this, I will be able to fully retire. So it should work out. We're very fortunate.

My area has been predicted to change to Labour for the first time since 2001. Our MP has been MIA for about 2 years on a 'secret' charge everyone knows about so I don't think that has helped him, even this predicted red wave ( more a bloodbath!) wouldn't have budged him otherwise imo. It's going to be a long night- I always stay up and I can't even have a cheeky drink as I'm on antibiotics for a tooth abscess 😩

Exit polls saying Labour will take almost all Tory seats scary times ahead & the Country will be bankrupt by the end of the year That's pretty pessimistic and by the end of the year there isn't even enough tine for any budget changes to be showing an effect! They've certainly inherited an absolute mess given the effect of COVID on the economy over the last few years. I'm much more hopeful than you but I'll see you in 6 months and I'll bow to your prediction should it come true (God forbid!)

The kind of pragmatic that can drive those who want to believe a more idealistic option exists, nuts. So I don’t know how that will play with either the rest of the party or the electorate. Or if it will be “too little of X”, “too much of Y”, and “too damn slow.” I wish Americans, including myself, had a better sense of how bad a post-Brexit + Covid UK has been for regular folks. Before we basically decide to jump into the fire of something with the potential to be even worse.

Well most of the Tories have been wiped out inclu
ding some that were actully decent humans.
I will be honest in saying I do not like the new Prime Minister I don't like His brand of politics and I really think He will struggle in keeping the hard left quiet as they are already making demands . Defense is another big issue I don't trust Labour with .
scary times ahead

Eek! Nigel Farage has finally got a seat.
Some major scalps taken, the ghastly Liz Truss, Grant Shapps, Opus Dei representative Jacob Rees Mogg and Penny Mordaunt.

Yeah, not happy about Farage.
Truss was as rude as hell when the results were due to be announced, kept everyone waiting, there was a slow handicap and unlike other losing conservatives, just walked off the stage without giving a speech.

Well, no real surprises then. Liz Truss will be moaning how we're all too stupid to understand and make the correct decision. She's about the most deluded politician I've ever heard and that's saying something! There'll be a change of Tory leadership I assume? My area is now Lib Dem - I fear many of the landed gentry around here will need their smelling salts

He's a former Barrister and head of Public prosecutions, he's not lacking brains or experience in dealing with difficult people. I've never been a fan and his voice grates but I'm glad to see the back of the Tories. Change is needed and they have a huge majority to effect it. Their campaign was brilliant, the Tories just fell apart. Shockingly the Tory in our area that was predicted to lose with the biggest swing in the country won. I'm gutted as he's still MIA on a SAcharge and is doing nothing for our area.

Have to say the speed of the handover is brutal, the white van is already in situ. Sunak due to leave No 10 by 10.30, Starmer due to speak outside No 10 at 12.30.
