This is all in fun! For the past ~3 years I have been out of paper crafting because we had our first baby, I changed jobs, and I was building a craft shed. The shed is almost done and I have been organizing and sometimes find time to make cards and sew. I recently joined the PF and Altenew classes for ink blending and watercoloring & hot foiling. While I had most supplies, some of my adhesives and pens needed to be replaced. I eagerly replaced my shimmer pens (Wink of Stella/Nuvo) all ready to use them in these classes…but no one is using them? I realized I might be stuck in the pre-COVID card design world!! Oh well, I still like shimmer pens and have added shimmer to the few cards I have managed to make from the classes. Any product you still love that is no longer “on trend”?

Just wait a few years, it'll all come back around just like fashion.
I don't follow supply trends - most of them I find are too single use (in that you can't do a lot of different looking things with them) and I am happy in my trifecta of die cuts, alcohol markers and solid cardstock.
I do like checking out the "new hotness" but it doesn't tempt me to buy. Use what you have! You bought it presumably because you liked it, so get your money's worth. Trends are just there to make companies more money.

Yes, I went through some very difficult years from about 2013-2018 and while I still made cards and scrapbooked, I didn't really buy anything and I didn't keep up with new products, etc, very much, so when things got better and I got re-obsessed with my hobbies again, I felt like I missed so much. I played catch up for a little while, but it's really true that things come back in style, so I'm glad I held onto those border punches, etc, that I'm using all the time again!

highkeycrafting, may I ask which Altenew watercoloring class you registered for? I've been tempted by them. Congrats on new baby, new job, and craft shed! I think different companies also tend to favor different products/techniques, somewhat based on the products they offer. S&CT or SB.C (maybe both?) have used shimmer pens in classes/retreats I've taken with them in the last year or so. SU demos still use it in recent videos I've seen. Jennifer McGuire still uses Perfect Pearls and/or homemade shimmer spray made with Perfect Pearls, but I don't think I've seen her use the shimmer pens. Altenew sells metallic inks, metallic watercolors, shimmer ink sprays, and glitter card stock, so those are the products they tend use in their events and videos to add sparkle.

highkeycrafting I’m right there with you on the wink of stella pens. I still use mine on almost every card. I also use tsukineko shimmer spritz all the time. I love shimmer sparkle more so than bling sparkle.

I still use my Wink of Stella pen for a subtle touch of shimmer! I dislike using loose glitter, so it's Stella or Stickles for me.
My left behind -- I like to color with my Copics. I think the trend has gotten away from colored die cut images and everything is stenciled. I do have layering stencils, but I just like the look of colored images. If the layered stenciled era had come out before I invested in Copics, then I'd probably be a lot richer! (not buying so many stamps and markers)
And, how exciting to have a dedicated craft shed.
ETA: after reading PinkLadys post. I use Perfect Pearls mixed with water for shimmer, too.

I still love my shimmer: sprays, pens, papers, glitter! You're definitey not alone. I don't watch Jennifer McGuire anymore, and I rarely watch Kristina Werner, or any of the other "influencers." I like to see new products, and sometimes I'll try them. I've been doing this long enough to know what I like and not buy something because it's the latest and greatest. Good for you for using what you enjoy! And congratulations on the new baby, job, and shed! You see? You do have "new" stuff to play with, LOL!

Yes, I still see shimmer pens in videos like Kristie Marcotte’s scrapbook dot com ads because they sell a whole range of colored glitter/shimmer pens. And it’s a nice touch if you don’t care for glitter and/or want to keep things flat for mailing. I always forget that I got influenced by Vicki P to buy one when I first started cardmaking. I hardly ever use it now. I don’t feel like I was ever much on trend so I don’t think I’ve had a similar feeling. When I quit cardmaking in the early 2000s I eventually gave away almost everything (which wasn’t much) and then started fresh many years later. So much had changed from the wood mounted stamps I started with that it almost seemed like a totally different craft to me

Welcome back to paper crafting, highkeycrafting! Congrats on the baby, the new job and the craft shed! Would love a tour of that when it's done! I never throw anything away, so am often recycling things I bought and loved years ago. I don't worry too much about being "on trend" in scrapbooking/cardmaking. The trends in most of my life passed me years ago. But sometimes they flash on by me again, and I smile.

I don't feel left behind because I don't care what others are doing, unless I want to do it too. And I like coloring with stencils, too. It is so easy to layer with them. Some stuff does not lend itself to coloring with stencils. I also colored with my SU markers (individual ones) and some Tombows, but they are just not the same as the Copics.

I've been crafting since 2002 and I think I've always been perpetually behind. So much of my stash has been bought on clearance, passed down by other crafters de-stashing, or picked up at thrift stores and yard sales...even when it's new to me, it's usually old to everyone else. I just end up mixing and matching and often using newer techniques with older products. And you know what? I'm okay with that. I like my simple pages and simple cards and I'm not trendy anywhere else in my life either. GiantsFan- I'm doing more colouring lately with my Ohuhu markers highkeycrafting - congratulations on the new baby, new job, and the craft shed - how exciting

I still use my shimmer pens! I just used them on some of the summer cards I did for the 2Peas card exchange 😊
How exciting about your craft shed!! Would love to see pics when complete!

Add me to the Copic colouring bandwagon. I think it's not as popular a technique for a few reasons. The initial investment is high, even if you go for other brands. The skill floor is also higher than many other things, so too is the skill ceiling. You can of course go full fine art with alcohol markers alone. Lastly and most importantly, those craft companies don't get kickbacks or sales from alcohol markers unless they're also a craft store, so there's far less incentive to feature them.

do NOT worry about trends. make what you love. trends are pushed to keep us from getting bored and to keep us buying. it's not a crime. it's just the nature of the cyclical beast. You do you.
I never got into sequins. (Ask your non cardmaking friends what they think of them!!).

Congrats on your baby!
I’m another one who loves Wink of Stella, and I use it frequently.
Since moving 7+ years ago, we’ve had a lot of challenges. I have no LSS, so I use my stash. I see some of the recent trends at conventions when I manage to go, but I no longer feel like I have to chase or follow the trends. I like hybrid scrapbooking and card making. Using digital images in my paper crafting gives me the freedom to do/use whatever I want.

I agree that everything that is old is new again. I have more of FOMO (fear of missing out) so I was buying everything and using next to nothing. I've decided since I've been on a purging kick that I need to stick with what I like and not to follow what others tell me I like.

I have fat hauls of top-quality papers and tools from the clearance areas of LSS (when those existed...) - never bothered me that they were "post-trendy". New-to-me supplies are still inspiring and fun! I have enjoyed being downstream of my trendier friends' destashing, too

Aha -- I did that one, too. They are (or were, I think it was a bit ago now) a watercoloring class with a kit, but it featured the tube watercolors. I bought one of their pan sets a couple months ago and was not interested in adding tubes into the mix. I was wondering if you'd registered for that one.

If you have tube watercolours, you can easily convert them over to pans if that's your preference. Just takes some empty containers and time. Just don't try it with acrylics!
