Driving around Omaha looking for the house my husband's aunt used to live in, we came across this. House

The house is not my style at all.
The woodwork throughout the house is beautiful. I love the brick wall. I hate the open shelves in the kitchen.

I see some things that need to be changed, like the cupboards and some of the lighting and wall coverings and things. But overall I love it.
My favorite touch is the small line of theater seats in the basement--lol. I would turn that into an indoor pond.

For the price I would take it. Some of the wallpaper would have to go.

(I do feel like we have seen this here before)
I would never want a house with historical designation, nor be part of a historical district. My friend had a home in a historical district and there were many things that could not be changed or updated.
Having said that, there is some beautiful wood in this home. Don't care for a lot of the wallpaper.

Too many restrictions on what you can and cannot do usually comes with it.

I expect your historical district restrictions are similar to our listed building ones.
I’ve always thought it would be fun living somewhere like this but there is too much wood! Too many fireplaces! I would have to completely redo the inside to have it light and airy which 1. Would not be allowed and 2. Detract from the character. Thanks for the chance to look round though!

Interesting! I find a few of the Art Deco pieces a little out of place and there's an awful lot of wood! It's not my taste but I don't dislike it - there's a lot to look at though - a busy house if you know what I mean And yes librarylady, do think this has been posted before.

I absolutely love it from the outside, it's like a Lego house. The interior is not my style though.

When I was a kid, we used to go to a Victorian seaport town a few hours from where we lived. I loved it with all of the old houses, many of which had been turned into B&Bs. I always fantasized about living in one of them one day but as an adult, my tastes have changed and they aren't my style anymore.

Thought that I had seen this befor, but it was filled with furniture and decorated. It was a Zillow house! Much better with all the previous owners stuff out. It’s beautiful!

Other than the ghosts that I'm sure live there - it's fabulous! Great bones.

This reminds me so much of a house we have locally. It is part of our historical society and they give tours.
I like how they have blended the old and the new. Too many levels for me.

My suspicion is that it has a fair amount of road noise.

I love the exterior but because it is part of the national association of victorian's, you are not allowed to change the interior.
Too much wood and dark for me.
We have many as well as other older style homes in my city. Let me see if I can snag a pic of my favorite.

Here it is. Built in 1890 by the same architect who built our public library. It has these gorgeous stained glass windows that when the sun catches them, it glows.

My suspicion is that it has a fair amount of road noise. It is not on a main drag. This used to be a really rundown neighborhood. It looks completely different now then it did 20 years ago. Houses are being renovated. The area is lovely. I was surprised.

I think the house is super cool with a lot of character. I don’t like the kitchen but I could work with everything else. I wouldn’t decorate my house like this with the wallpaper and flooring, but it’s cool in a historic home. All the wood makes it look really neat.
eta: I don’t remember seeing this house before so I likely missed that thread.

Houses are being renovated. The area is lovely. I was surprised. I love to see the revitalization of the downtowns - though I hate it when it becomes out of reach of a lot of potential homeowners. It wasn't so much the main drag as the proximity to the freeway that I was noting.
