The kind that has a steady flow of water?
(I have the little blue bulb type)
Do you recommend any earwax removal devices?
Thanks for any advice!

DH was told by a doctor to purchase and use one of them every so often, so at least that professional felt that they were.
And DH had used them in the past...he just hadn't used one in awhile, and he was experiencing dizziness. When he went to the doctor they found he had impacted wax in one ear. So that visit served as a reminder for him to start using them again.
We can call our doctor's office and ask a nurse about things if we don't think they warrant a visit. It is possible for you to do something like that if you're concerned? Best of luck!

I figured that since I was giving you second-hand info, I'd add that idea in case you didn't get any first-hand anecdotes from anyone.

My doctor recommended me to use one for my ear that had constant wax buildup.

My doctor recommended one for me and my son. We do not use q tips in the canal, but we do get lots of buildup. We were told to do a flushing of the ears every 6 months. It really does help!
Another thing I have done is buy one of those ear cleaning cameras. Not that it helps with cleaning the ears, but it helps me identify when I can't quite flush out my sons' ears well enough and it's time to call the doctor.

I got a case of swimmer's ear from a lavage so now get regular ear wax suction at the ENT.

I went to my dr to have my ears cleaned. A different dr a few years beforehand told me about a kit that I could buy otc, tried it but it didn’t work as it should have.

For the most part they are fine.
They aren't unsafe but many people have very narrow or curvy canals that make them less effective. One of those YMMV situations.
If you know that you have very hard wax, using oil for three days prior will help.
