Our future as a free and democratic country will be determined in 4 months. So many similarities to The 1940’s. History is repeating itself as if we have learned nothing. I’m old but I fear for my children and grandchildren.

Yes, more emphasis needs to be made in the media about Trumps crimes.

The moderators of the debate did a terrible job. When either candidate failed to answer a question, they let it go. They may as well have listed the questions on a teleprompter.
The news media covers Trump's lies all the time. His followers just don't care. On the other hand, Biden has been in decline for at least a year but the media, Biden's handlers, and the White House staff kept it quiet. Now we're in the $#*t with a candidate who's trailing a lying madman and it's too late for him to drop out of the race. We should have been warned.

That is your opinion that the President is in decline. Based on what? Your observation from the cheap seats? My observation from the same cheap seats is that he isn’t in decline and is actually doing pretty good especially with the schedule he keeps. He was tired, he had a cold and a stutter that takes a certain amount of concentration so not to stutter. The fact is any of us at any age can have days when we are tired and don’t feel good because of a cold. But few of us have to worry about feeling like crap and concentrating on not stuttering at the same time. x.com/ddale8/status/1806528549106442312?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

Apparently I managed to delete the thoughts on the debate and election by Norman Ornstein
”Let me be clear: I don’t criticize our media for intense coverage of the health of the president and whether he can fill another term or stay on the ticket. Those are big stories. They are not the only stories. The fact that he is the incumbent does not excuse the inattention to the other major party candidate who was a former president, much less the dereliction of duty that comes with treating his abnormal behavior as normal. 1/
Of course, Biden’s disastrous debate performance was the biggest news. But Trump’s serial lies was also really big, and brushed aside. The revelations from Jeffrey Epstein’s investigation, including the multiple trips Trump took with him, largely ignored. Far worse is what we know will be the consequences of another Trump presidency. 2/
He completely ignored the question in the debate about deporting migrants. It is a clear responsibility of a free press to report on this, meaning the plans to put 12 million people in the United States in detention camps, people that he has called animals. His closest advisor and press secretary are tied directly to Project 2025. It was written in intimate connection withTrump‘s principaladvisors. That he lies openly about whether he knows anything about it no excuse for our press, largely ignoring it. 3/
If Joe Biden has moments where he falters, there is a stellar team of top advisors and staff to keep this from becoming a policy catastrophe. As Liz Cheney has said, even if you don’t like Biden’s policies, the country regularly survives, presidents, whose policies and don’t like. 4/
But as she says courageously and eloquently, we cannot survive the destruction of democracy and fundamental freedoms, which is openly in the game plan of Donald Trump. Trump talks about creating military tribunals to punish his enemies in an administration built around retribution. It is dereliction of journalistic responsibility beyond imagining that this gets shrugged off and not covered as if it were a four alarm fire. 5/
The shocking decisions of the court, especially Chevron and immunity, have not been covered as front page above the full stories or as a runaway Court that will turn governance upside down. Much less Supreme Court that will end up with a 72 right wing extremist margin if Trump is elected, probably including replacing Thomas and Alito with justices at least as extreme and much younger. 6/
Covering the deathwatch around whether Biden survives as a candidate, while ignoring the fact that this is truly an existential election, less about Biden and Trump, and more about whether our democracy survives , is simply not what mainstream press, much less everybody else, should make as their singular focal point. Don’t ignore it but please, please get a grip and make your focus what really matters. End

Joyce Vance posted today that she has heard that TFG's rightwing group is telling people that their voters very well may not count "If you’re starting to think this way, I want you to stop right now. This is one of the oldest strategies in the voter suppression handbook: telling you not to bother voting because your vote won’t count, that it doesn’t matter," she then added. "And that just isn’t true. We don’t have to look any further than the 2020 election to understand how powerful our right to vote is in the face of a would-be despot." www.rawstory.com/joyce-vance-trump-voter-suppression/

He was tired, he had a cold and a stutter that takes a certain amount of concentration so not to stutter. Did you watch the same debate I did? Are you seriously buying the bull$#*t they're feeding us about a cold? Your seats must have been cheaper than mine if you couldn't tell the difference between dementia and a cold. That's what p*$$es me off the most. The administration thinks we're stupid enough to believe their litany of absurd excuses. I have discussed the debate with a neurologist friend and with my daughter, a med student with a degree in neuroscience. Neither of them can believe the audacity of trying to pass this off as a cold, time zone changes, fatigue, etc. Both of them noted the staring, shuffling gait, disorientation, and inability to complete a train of thought. Many of these symptoms are not isolated to one night. They agreed he'd have failed a cognitive function test. One of the things that they look for is if you can still recognize that you are in decline. He can't and his handlers won't tell the emperor he has no clothes because they will no longer be in power. The fact is any of us at any age can have days when we are tired and don’t feel good because of a cold. But few of us have to worry about feeling like crap and concentrating on not stuttering at the same time. We don't have to worry because we don't hold the nuclear codes. I know you want to believe he's all right, because of the dire consequences, but this is a man who, possibly unwittingly, put his ego ahead of the good of the country. We just have to brace ourselves for what is to come. It's going to be ugly.

We’re not screwed either way. Biden has a cabinet of competent people doing the work of the presidency and trying to make your country a better place. If running the country really were up to one person, you might be right. It’s not.

My ExH worked closely with James Mattis when he was SecDef and the rumor was he took the appointment in spite of being appointed by Trump. My friend and I marched to the White House when the refugee crisis was happening at airports and her sign said "Refugees are more throughly vetted than Trump's Cabinet."

I’ll take the guy who is “just old” vs. the alternative who is a convicted felon who has already said that he will fire tens of thousands of civil servants with decades of nonpartisan agency experience, in favor of a bunch of sycophant yes men who have already pledged to kiss the ring.

David Axelrod…
”The @potus's written message to Congressional Ds is this in a nutshell: "I've got this thing. I'm the nominee, chosen by voters, and I'm not giving it up, no matter what anyone says. So save your breath and get on board. It's me or Trump."
Or my version is “To the whining Democrats, sit down and shut up bit show up on Election Day or there won’t be another election. It’s that simple”.

In my state, I truly feel my vote won't count. There is no way in hell Mississippi is going to cast its electoral votes for Biden. Of course I'll still vote for him though, but it's a throwaway. For people in my situation, we have to help those states that do have a chance - volunteer for swing states. Connect with groups to send postcards, texts, phone calls. I did in 2020, but it's more important now than ever! We've seen what a Trump presidency can do, just with the Supreme Court, we can't let it happen again.

Really, Biden's state of mental decline (or lack of) could be easily determined by taking a cognitive and neurological test. Make Trump take one as well. I don't think it would be unreasonable to ask them for one, considering they have the nuclear codes.
ABC asked Biden for one done by an independent medical evaluation and Biden said he didn't need to. But lots of Americans do think he needs to. So why not take one and be done with it? Put the issue to rest?

You know those pesky little things that folks try and dismiss when forming an opinion they want to present. And those pesky facts just keep getting in the way of their chosen narrative. No disrespect to your daughter and friend but they are sitting in the cheap sears with the rest of us making assumptions without all the facts. As far as the nuclear codes go, someone said Biden may be old but he has a lot of younger smart capable folks, including a more than capable VO, that makes up his administration. And that does make a difference. Not like the “Corruption Inc” crowd trump surrounded himself with. A crowd that he demands a gets absolute loyalty from. So on this we are going to agree to disagree on.

He’s also done a good job putting together his cabinet.

Ok, as soon as trump agrees to do the same thing. Until then screw it. To be even clearer any test they want the President to take the convicted felon has to take it as well. The tests can be given by a disinterested third party.

I would actually be 110% behind this becoming a law that if you want to serve as President or Vice President, then you should be willing to take an independent cognitive and neurological test - no matter their age.
