I've never gotten into podcasts and I've recently started to think I'd like to try some. What are your favorites?

I like the Dateline and 20/20 podcasts. If you like those shows, it is basically the show, done for radio.

What sort of topics do you like? My playlist is mostly true crime, while DH does news/current affairs (US, UK and Australia)

My suggestion is to search for a celebrity or topic that you are interested in. There are so many to choose from. I’d check out people or topics that you think you would enjoy.

I like: Literally ( Rob Lowe hosts), Pie (Katie Sagal & her hubby host), Breakdown (Mayim Bialek & her partner host),Dying to Ask ( with a local newsperson Deirdre Fitzpatrick), Michelle Obama The celebrity host interviews various known persons on all the above, kind of random but interesting I've listened to murder/crime podcasts, or knitting podcasts on occasion. I usually listen while working out at the gym.

Were You Raised by Wolves? -- An etiquette podcast sounds very stuffy, but it's really fun. It's mostly about how etiquette affects situations where being considerate of others is the way to go, not which fork to use for shrimp cocktail. I'm hooked.
Hidden Brain -- A fascinating psychology podcast explaining how our minds govern our unconscious behavior. Great podcast.
Swindled -- because who doesn't love true crime?
Pretty much anything by Wondery and I also listen to several podcasts about old Hollywood.

If you like tv show ones I recommend:
The Michael Scott Podcast Company - it is about The Office. I love the 3 guys who do it- it feels like sitting down and having a beer with your buddies. The topics are interesting and I really enjoy their personalities. They also have a Discord. They have started another podcast called Captive Audience where the 3 of them pick out a movie one of them hasn't seen and they watch it and discuss it. They are just nice, entertaining people.
Mystery Maniacs (Formerly Midsummer Maniacs) - If you like British/Australian/New Zealand, etc. tv shows, this one is great. They did all the seasons of Midsummer Murders (I think there are 23 seasons!) and now are covering shows like Agatha Christie's Poirot, Father Brown, Brokenwood, etc. I really enjoy the hosts- they are a married couple and I love their relationship. They are very easy to listen to.
I usually pick my podcasts by whether I like the hosts are not. Some people are just grating and I don't want to spend time with them. Like, I do like Smartless sometimes- the guests are great and I like Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, but Jason Bateman (all though he is nice to look at) is super annoying. He just isn't someone I want to hang out with.
I used to listen to Office Ladies but eventually gave it up because Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey were starting to wear on me. They are good in small does, but after several years I was done with them.

I used to listen to Lindsay Teague Moreno, but she hasn't done a podcast in long time. I like her tell it like it is, I am not perfect style. I wish she would post more.
New Heights. The Kelce Brothers. They are funny, humble, and complete goofballs. They tell it like it is, and they totally laugh at themselves. Disclaimer: A lot of profanity, especially the F word.

Smartless with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes. One of the 3 will invite a celebrity but not tell the other two, so they have no time to prepare. It's great and they have interesting guests.

I like a lot of history. The History Hit stable of podcasts, Gone Medieval, Not Just The Tudors, History Hit itself (this one is very broad.) The History Extra podcast, too, very broad. Talking Tudors. Shedunnit, this is about the golden age of British detective fiction, Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh, ECR Lorac, Dorothy Sayers, etc. She's doing a fun sub series where she's reading all the Green Penguin series, the crime fiction ones, and she just did The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett, and it was the first time she read Hammett,it was fun.The Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes podcast. This one goes episode by episode of the Granada Sherlock series from the 80's and 90's starring Jeremy Brett as Holmes. This is really fun. Im a big fan of that show. They do interviews. They recently got David Burke, who played Watson in the first series (Edward Hardwicke played Watson in the later ones). He's 86 and had resisted being interviewed because he's hard of hearing, but he decided to be interviewed, the hosts flew out to England and spent the day with them. It was amazing! Im such a geek over tv. Anyway, these are some of my favorites. I, too like the Midsomer Murders podcast.

I have asked before about Old Hollywood ones, but didn't get many suggestions. Can you share some, please? I don't have any that I really love, but Ben Mankiewicz's "The Plot Thickens" isn't bad. There's one that's really stylish, "You Must Remember This," but it isn't that good and I just can't stand the host's weird diction.

Most of my favourites are Australian, so you might not like them. I listen to a lot of podcasts that fall under the Mamamia banner: Mamamia Outloud Cancelled Mid No Filter But Are You Happy Lowbrow Then I have my true crime podcasts: True Crime Conversations (also a Mamamia podcast) Life and Crimes with Andrew Rule The Trial - they follow along with big criminal trials in the UK. The 'best' one was about Lucy Letby, which had about 67 (!!!) episodes. And now that she is back in court, I'm sure they will do more. Naked City with John Sylvester Homicide with Ron Iddles I Catch Killers with Gary Jubelin Casefile True Crime Some one-off crime podcasts: My Sister's Secrets Hannah's Story. This one was sickeningly heartbreaking. If anyone plans to listen to it, I suggest reading about her first so you know what you're in for. Her name is Hannah Clarke. Spoiler below: On 19 February 2020, Rowan Baxter perpetrated a quadruple murder–suicide in Camp Hill, Queensland, Australia. Baxter fatally burned his 33-year-old estranged wife Hannah Clarke and their three children, Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey, before dying by suicide at the scene. I absolutely love when a TV show that I watch has a companion podcast. Some of the best ones I've listened to: And Just Like That - The Writers' Room Succession Podcast Eyes On Gilead - a Handmaid's Tale Podcast Fake Doctors Real Friends (with Zack Braff and Donald Faison from Scrubs) Some other generic ones: Rumble with Michael Moore The Lincoln Project Bang On The Imperfects Because I am up-to-date with all of my Australian true crime podcasts, Spotify is now feeding me some American true crime podcasts: American Criminal 20/20 Forensic Tales Dateline Originals

I’m enjoying the “Here’s where it gets Interesting” podcast with Sharon McMahon. She does lots of different topics. I’m getting ready to start the Vigilantes. She likes to tell true stories that didn’t make it into our history books and I find that super interesting.

You must remember this is such a good premise but she is awful, isn't she? I wonder if she speaks like that in real life or if that is just her podcast voice? I listened to one once that wasn't very stylish or slick. It was very interesting though. It was all about the Wizard of Oz, but I have no idea how I found it or who it was. I wish I could figure it out to see if they had more. I have tried several, but none are any good for one reason or another. If I find a decent one I will let you know, if you find one will you share?

I hope this isnt a repeat — I thought I answered but it disappeared?
I do listen to : Stuff you should know beautiful Annonymous any true crime podcasts
my current obsession is cults, so I listen to : growing up in Scientology Life after a cult Cults to Consciousness Mormon Stories
my guilty listen is to Without a Crystal Ball (dirt on the Duggar's and Sister Wives) and Kinsey Schofield (dirt on Harry and Meghan)
I listen to podcasts when I go to bed,it stops my thinking about things that keep me awake. Unfortunately, the topics seem to get into, my dreams and I dream I am a part of the story, only the speaker doesn’t listen to my opinions!

I listen to pretty much every episode of The Daily by the NY TImes and the Chalene Show. I have several others that I listen to intermittently depending on how interested I am in the topic. Some include Dateline, State of the World by NPR, Chasing Life by Sanjay Gupta. I like true crime but haven’t gotten into a good series recently.

I like true crime, so my favorite is Southern Fried True Crime. Her voice is so soothing! Court Junkie On Our Watch 1st season was really good, it was all about misdoing by California police.

I listened to one that sounds like this as well, but it isn’t the one linked below. I’ll try to figure it out. ETA that the one I was thinking of is Letters From Sing Sing.
