I discovered scrapbookers like Shimelle on the original Two Peas. I still go to the Two Peas YouTube channel from time to time to view Garden Girl videos from years ago. I was oblivious to the drama, and honestly I think I'm better off not knowing!
I discovered Ali Edwards, Becky Higgins, and Lisa Bearnson, Nia Reddy, Erikia Ghumm, Erin Lincoln, and others from the old magazines I subscribed to, especially Creating Keepsakes. That may be where I discovered Heidi Swapp.
Today, I follow a lot of scrapbookers on Instagram. I don't know if I'd call them celebrities. Shimelle Laine, Heidi Swapp and Ali Edwards still have "celebrity" status, I suppose. I've been exposed to a lot of new names through Ali Edwards's blog and classes, and several on this forum. I really appreciate the diversity that's out there--too many to mention, but I enjoy just about every style even if not every scrapbooker is a "celebrity."

Way back when Simple Scrapbooks was just beginning, I did like Stacy Julian. Until she got too conceited, like so many of the other "celebrities" who have been mentioned. Same. And I did really love that she was out there promoting simpler layouts and albums. Unfortunately we all know how things ended with her bout of popularity.

I'm terrible at remembering names, but one that comes to mind is Nia Reddy. I liked the simple scrappers who did 8.5x11 pages. There was a lady who was Canadian who had three daughters that I liked too. I remember liking one of the Garden Girls. My memory is awful. Ah, that was Willa (her last name is escaping me).

Wilna Furstenberg I have met her in person, went shopping with her and had lunch. She is a beautiful person, and a fabulous artist. I will eventually have one of her paintings in my house.

She was so soothing to listen to. Does anyone know if she is still active in the art or scrapbooking community?

I remember the Garden Girls but didn’t have enough time to follow the drama back then (small children). I do remember this whacky unmoderated message board “Scrap Crap” though. It was brutal but highly entertaining. Lots of gossipy stuff re AE and KP (boyfriends) at the time. A lot juicy, mean drama. Amy Tan probably also. Was taken down, then re-emerged, then was gone for good. Reminds me a bit of the current gossip bakery site (which is moderated and covers influencers, YouTubers, think Jordan Page etc.).

On a Reddit thread - someone was wondering whatever happened to Melody Ross creator of the Brave Girls club. She went through a rough patch or two back in the day. I miss the old days and the old magazines.

I remember most of these names so this has been a walk down memory lane from my early scrapping years. One thing that popped up in my memory was a published layout by Erin Terrell. It was of her husband and the journaling was about something he had done that was hurtful or offensive to her but she didn't specify what it was. I remember wondering what he did and how that layout got to be published with that very personal journaling on it. I remember it said something like 'after what you did.' Funny how some things just stick with us.

That was pretty gutsy to publish that layout. No way would I have done that. Or scrapped it.

I remember wondering if he cheated and she used an attractive picture of him and scrapped the story. Give me a voodoo doll to "decorate" instead if I want to be crafty after that! But I just assumed. He could have broken a vase for all I know.

I think the rise of social media has changed the ways in which we get inspiration. I think you can get inspiration from anyone, not just a person promoted by a company to sell specific products. I follow so many on Insta that are scrappers & paper crafters. I follow a lot peas now and get ‘real’ inspiration 😉
There is no wrong in scrapping/papercrafting, and I’m not picking on anyone specifically or any specific project. I’m not fond for myself of the trend that creates product forward pages. I’ve seen a few lately where I struggled to find the memory amongst the products. I get it, producers want to sell product, that’s their goal. But I sometimes have an issue finding creativity inspiration from the product centered creations. I think the creations are pretty & artistic. I sure hope the designers are getting real wages paid for it. I enjoy looking at it. But I’m just not getting my inspiration there.

It's not my preference when a creator's feed/channel primarily showcases whatever DTs they are on. I am not their target audience, lol. I enjoy watching creatives that are creating just for the fun of it. They are harder and harder to come by. I feel like there is a cycle that a lot of creators get into that is recognizable after a while: A creative starts their IG/YT, makes cool stuff, makes cool stuff, gets on a DT or two, makes cool stuff, creates less cool stuff, creates less stuff, creates only DT stuff, creates only DT stuff, burnout/radio silence, comes back for a quick "life" update, the end.

...I feel old...
I fade in and out from scrapping depending on what's going on with life and this is reminding me of how many years I've been doing that. Reminding me of how many projects I've started but haven't finished or had an idea I want to do that never got any farther than pulling stuff out of my stash for it
Probably because of when I was first introduced to scrapping my OG names would be Heidi Swapp (all about the lettering and metal tags) and Shimelle (Glitter Girl). I love seeing what Heidi creates - love Stop The Blur, her energy, how she changes and tries new things, etc, but shy away from her products because they have such a strong style that doesn't easily blend in with other stuff I use. My appreciation for Shimelle has grown over the years. Not 100% my style but I love how she teaches/presents what she does. There's a logic to how she puts things together, she's consistent with her approach, posting, etc, and I appreciate her 'customer service' - always full access to any class (still get the prompts for JYC from the time I bought it a decade? ago), makes things available, refunds if something doesn't end up working, etc.

I used to like Provo Craft products back in the day and two scrapbookers from that company that used to be featured a lot (they were also CK Hall of Famers) were Erin Terrell (lots of pictures of her daughter Daisy) and Desiree Tanner (lots of blonde kids and a cute surfer husband).
Out of curiosity I did a search on them today and Desiree Tanner is involved in lawsuits with Cricut.
Provocraft used to own Sizzix and Cricut plus had a lot of other products (I still have some paper pads of theirs from Michael's).

Since I have been scrapbooking for over 30 years, used to subscribe to the magazines, go to scrapbooking events, etc, I remember almost all of the 'celebs'/known scrapbookers mentioned, but my favorites from 'back in the day' were Rebecca Sower, Wilna Furstenberg, and Heidi Swapp. I also liked Kristina Contes, Anna-Maria Wolniak, and Mou Saha. I guess I used to gravitate toward the work of mixed media artists that also did artistic scrapbooking.
Today, I have a few scrapbookers I follow - as in watch their You Tube videos or look for their layouts on Instagram: Katie Pertiet, Sarah Davies, Rebecca Moore, Jessica Michaels, Ronda Ivens, and Stephanie Berger. Well-known/familiar scrapbookers today do not seem to enjoy the popularity of the 'celebs' from the first 15 years of this century, maybe due to the move from print to electronic media, multiple social media platforms, fewer big scrapbooking events, maybe the general trending-down of scrapbooking as a hobby.

I always like Heidi Grace, she designed a lot of scrapbook papers. Something weird happened with her stuff though, she basically sold her name and then couldn't use it once she stopped designing for whoever she sold it too.

I have wondered what happened to her, I liked her designs. I bought 2 of her paper pads (Cartwheel and Sunshowers) at JoAnns around 2013 and I think they were made by Colorbok, also I have some of her stuff under the Fiskars name.

Just thought of another lady whose style I really liked. In fact I ran across her booklet from Pine Cone Press "Small Collections" in my stack of folders of ideas that I've saved over the years. Erin Tenney. Loved her style. Wonder if she still scrapbooks?

Erin Lincoln was one of my favorite scrapbookers back in the day, then she started making cards and was on the Papertrey Ink design team. I think she eventually started designing stamps & dies for PTI, too.
I LOVED her style. She was innovative and creative, and always used products in unique ways. I haven't seen anything from her in 10ish years and I wish she would reemerge in the papercraft world!
